View Full Version : Anyone up for Sunday Activities??

Not sure about anyone else but I am getting fed up of spending my Sunday's in bed feeling **** after Saturday nights full of drunken randomness so have decided I want to start 'doing' something with my life (and getting back into shape!!) Am thinking Sundays to begin with, then we can be more adventurous if things work out...

Would anyone be up for doing some walking or other sporting activities (not too hardcore!) on a Sunday so that this 'day of rest' is no longer bed ridden??

Reckon if we could get a group of us together then we could hook up on Sat nights and no excuses for Sunday lameness!

Any takers? Any suggestions, c'mon you couch-potato-Hollyoaks-loving-addicts-you know who you are, there must be someone out there??

Hi Hillschick - thanks for the comments and for the invite but I'm going to have to pass this week. Would you call yourself a walk leader and would you be interested in being part of the group or if I refer members from SpurIntoAction to yourself? (It is a network of people I'm developing here so I'm not trying to control everything - just bring people together).
See you soon maybe.
P.S. Where are you planning to walk this Sun and how far? Hopefully you won't have any problems with the weather!

Spinac, the more the merrier, have not done this before, was merely chatting with my house mate and we are bored of doing the same monotonous things on a sunday - they are the most depressing days coupled with a hang over so we thought s0d it, let's do something. We arr 28 and 26 so not into the old rambling brigade, just want some air in them there lungs

I know just how you feel, I've been in sheff coming up to 2 years now and still haven't got round to exploring the countryside.

Have you seen this group:
http://www.sheffieldwalkinggroup.org.uk/

I might give it a go sometime, was thinking about waiting until we're out of the snowy season though.

Hi Hillschick, I'm not exactly sure how to move this forward, but I'm in with the old rambling brigade!! I try not to be exclusive on age and we do occasionally get walkers in their 20's and 30's who are very nice and say they are there for the walk and age doesn't matter, but then we don't see them again. So, no matter how polite people are, age does seem to matter. I've taken on a lot with SpurIntoAction - just something I do part time but in truth I probably put more hours into this than my full time job. I've got plans for the future, but for the moment I'm happy to build the foundations of a great network maybe cover costs and see where it takes me.

So what I'm trying to do at the moment is connect people and see whether I'm any good at it. The 20's and 30's in the group occasionally have a get-together and although I can help out I'm not the person to lead this (I'm 45). I was going to see if I could prompt a few of them into a pool challenge (9 ball at The Common Room) followed by a meal at Cafe Guru. Is that the sort of thing that might interest you and your friends?

If you'd like to invite others out on your events then if you let me know times, dates, meeting arangements, length of walk, difficulty etc (a rough description will do) then I'll post the details on the website.

I've PM'd you with some additional info.

Hi Gemma,

Can't PM you because you've run out of space!

I've not done any walks around sheff, but I've just had a quick google and this looks pretty good:
http://www.chrishobbs.com/sheffieldroundwalk.htm

Way too long (14 miles!) but could just do a bit of it.

I have been on the walk around Langsett reservoir, that's quite good:

Just had another thought, the Rivelin valley would be quite easy:
http://www.rivelinvalley.org.uk/valley.htm

but maybe too short? - only 3 miles

Hi Cellardoor
Not really bothered where to go, so long as it's out in the open air and I feel better for it after! Maybe not too adventurous at first? 3 miles is ok to begin with and Rivelin is pretty near!

Walking is good in every way and you can make some smashing friends, the health benefits are enormous and you get to see parts of Derbyshire you wouldn’t otherwise see. I believe it helps emotionally as well and enriches your life. I’m otherwise engaged on Sunday or I would love to join in. There is always the occasional pub en route and you can do either circular routes or if you organise the cars you can start in one village where their will be a pub and finish in another village with perhaps a pub lunch. Good luck, and enjoy. I have been out in all weathers and all I have is good memories.

Yeah this group is good with all grades of walk, easy to hard and they stop at a pub as well! Some are hard core walkers, whilst others are just out to get a bit of excercise, fresh air and see the countryside we have on our doorstep! Try it!!
