Why celebrate St.Patricks Day?
Do they celebrate St.Georges Day in Ireland? No
Are you yourself genuinely Irish? No
Are you falling for some great Guinness promotion, yet still paying full price, thereby boosting profits for their shareholders? Yes
Are you patronisingly going to wander about town wearing a big green sponge hat, saying 'irish' words, and generally being annoying? Yes

Why celebrate St.Patricks Day?
Do they celebrate St.Georges Day in Ireland? No Some do
Are you yourself genuinely Irish? No Half, is that enough?
Are you falling for some great Guinness promotion, yet still paying full price, thereby boosting profits for their shareholders? Yes Don't drink Guinness
Are you patronisingly going to wander about town wearing a big green sponge hat, saying 'irish' words, and generally being annoying? Yes Nope, just going out and enjoying myself

I knew there would be at least one miserable bleeder. I'm surprised it took so long :hihi:

Its basically St Guiness day. 98% of sheffield is as Irish as curry yet they really go for it on this day. Never underestimate the power of marketing.

Apparently theres going to be a tent for St Georges Day this year. Will we celebrate with the same passion? Will be interesting to see.

Firstly, thankyou Discodown

Secondly, i'm not being miserable, i just find it all a bit false.
I will still be going out today enjoying myself,as i do most saturdays.

Thirdly, you are NOT half-irish, there's no such thing. If one of your parents,grandparents,great-grandparents etc were born and raised in Ireland, then they are Irish. If you were born and raised in England, you are English. If we want to use family history we should all be out celebrating Ethiopa Day !!

Anyway,suit yourselves,have a great day, ya plastic paddy :wink::hihi:

Why does being born and brought up in England mean we can't celebrate St Patrick's Day? Jesus wasn't born and brought up here so does that mean we can't celebrate Christmas? And as St George wasn't English either then we shouldn't be celebrating his day by your rules.

You can celebrate whatever you want, just don't pretend to be something you're not.

On Christmas day, i don't pretend to be 'Gods' son !!. And i don't make a deal of St.Georges either.

I believe the correct response is to say, in a ridiculous Oirish accent

… and the rest of it to you

Before tipping your green novelty top hat with a brim like a cloverleaf, that you've just bought.
