View Full Version : Surfing trip
hello
I am a 25 year old born and bread in sheffield. Ive done a bit of travelling and I go to newquay every year and am down with the whole surfing vibe but have never got around to doing it.
I posted this message a few months ago and got a bit of a response but Ive been dead busy so Ill do it again.
Basically if anyone is interested in goin surfing regularly (Cayton bay, scarborough, is supposed to be good) or anywhere else, please express youre interest here and we will meet up to discuss it.
If anyone has use of a car that would be a bonus.....but if not we could hire a mini bus or summat.
I know at Cayton bay you can phone up for the forecast the day before and they will rent u all the gear for about 4 hours for 20 quid.
Anyways if anyone wants to go surfin soon or has any relavant ideas....post ur interest and we'll sort somethin.
NICE ONE

tommymags 25-05-2006, 21:01 Hi
was just thinking the other day how it's been a while since I've been surfing.
Where abouts is cayton bay then and what's it like for surfing, i.e. compared with, say, newquay or polzeath?
are we goin to do this trip then if so ...email me at jon_newsome@hotmail.com
or 07968700973
newquay and croyde are looking ok for sunday.
newquay might be a bit too much of a haul though.
no but do you/anyone have transport...if so we could all meet up and go to cayton bay for a surf and rent equipment there.
Im up for that anytime

pinklola 16-06-2006, 20:34 Sorry for delay in reply..busy week!
yeah we are going down to surf, though maybe not for full week. Planning to grab some lessons first. Can't remember exactly where we're staying as my mate's booked it but any tips for good spots etc would be most welcome!
by the way
age 27, live near London Rd, work in a health food shop!
Was in Newquay this weekend. You have to go to fistral at some point but is better to do it when you're confident you aren't going to get in the way of more experienced folk(it gets packed too). Other than that there are loads of spots up and down that stretch of coast there are a lot of newbies but some good surf to be had on newquays main (great western etc).
beachball 19-06-2006, 17:36 if anyone is looking to buy a surfboard i have one that's ideal for beginners. Just over 6 foot, its wide, simple and easy to ride. £50, first come first served.
Hi,
I surfed for the first time a couple of weekneds ago up at Saltburn, Teeside and it was amazing!
I would be really interested in any trips being organised.
Thanks
pinklola 29-06-2006, 08:55 Right off to Newquay tomorrow :D Sorry car full this time as off on holiday with friends.
If anyone else out there as advice on places that hire out equipment (I'm guessing there are lots and it will be easy to hire ) and names of newbie beaches in the area that would be ace as unfortunately, I'm not very organised!
Cheers
curlycurlz 28-07-2006, 09:26 lipstickchick. co. uk if your girl who wants to surf and meet other surfing girls. some of us are based up north and its for all ages and abilitys!
northswell 29-09-2006, 11:39 I've just opened a surf shop on Hickmott Rd, Sharrowvale. I try to surf as often as I can, funny thing is that I probably surf less now than before I opened the shop. Check out the web site for my east coast forecast at northswell.co.uk
As for surf trips i have an eight seater van so there is sometimes room for other people. Looking at the charts for the week ahead there looks like some surf on the east coast from Tuesday, so may close the shop early and head up for a paddle.
Hope to see all Sheffield surfers in the store, pop in for a chat, or chill and watch a Surf Flick.
curlycurlz 29-09-2006, 12:17 lol im in the process of getting that nice 6'4 from u! ill be in the shop soon, in fact im free all tues if you wanna go for a surf?? cant wait to try out the new board!
northswell 29-09-2006, 12:53 Was thinking more Weds as the charts look a bit better for then, but will wait and see where this low moves too and how quickly. Will have a better idea Sun/Mon.
will come in for a chat soon mate because im well up for starting surfing......done loads of body boarding but never actually surfed................what time and days are the opening hours of you're shop?
I would love to go surfing its just getting there thats the problem ive never done surfing either just body boarding at the north bay at scarborough when i went on holiday.
northswell 02-10-2006, 16:13 The shops open every day but Monday, although Sunday i'm not around. We do occasionally close early or not open at all if the surfs good, which is what we are likely to do tommorow, Tues. Yeh pop in for a chat about all things surf. The sea is there for everyone to enjoy.
alright Mark!
Jon here...I came into the shop and met you on saturday, thought it looked quality...just to remind you that Im well up for surfing at Cayton or anywhere, at the weekend whenever there are some good swells.........I'll be in touch and am sure I'll be in the shop again at some point.
Nice one
ohyeahoh 08-10-2006, 17:40 I would love to surf...I've wanted to do it for years...pm if your still looking for people
If anyone's still up for some surfing action count me in. Last time I went was at Cayton (I think?) in Feb and it was surprisingly warm. Well I say warm... The sun was out and I could still feel my fingers and toes at the end of the day.
It was my first proper session and have been desperate to do some more.
Hi just seen your thread and noticed someone mentioned Saltburn, Teeside. To get there takes just over 2 hours and is close to Whitby etc. (Teeside borders North Yorkshire). I have a holiday cottage about 30 mins or less from Saltburn www.theshipinncottage.co.uk, its also a mile from Staithes, but I understand surfing there is not for the feint hearted!
northswell 22-11-2006, 12:49 Your not wrong about Staithes, its a fast hollow reef break. Runswick further north is similar too, but both lovely little villages.

My cottage is situated inbetween Runswick Bay and Staithes. Great place to visit, run, walk, surf and chill - www.theshipinncottage.co.uk
