Hi

I, wife and child are moving to the general area from the Ribble Valley (rural Lancashire) as I have been offered a job in Rotherham.

Can anyone recommend nice rural areas/villages, we can go to about 200k and would naturally like a castle, moat, deer, gillies etc etc but could may have to settle for less. Unfortunately apart from central sheffied we don't know the environs at all.

Answers most gratefully received

cheers

S7?! If my local knowledge is accurate enough I think that's Phan's patch, Nether Edge... Nice enough area, well served by buses, not much crime and that, and I think there's a couple of decent schools up that end as well, obviously the area has its own Hospital as well should you ever need it.

Most desirable area in Sheffield though is currently Kingsley Mews or summat, on the site of the former Middlewood Hospital in S6, just above Middlewood Supertram terminus near the Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, you'll easily be able to get a rather nice house there with £200,000 and probably have some money left over, and not only that you'd live in a very respectable neighbourhood with all local amenities such as shops, buses, the tram etc almost literally on your doorstep in nearby Hillsborough.

Hope that helps :)

Oh yes.... Nether Edge is a very nice *rural/village* area near Sheffield isn't it? (Sarcasm - its not rural at all, as the original post asked for)

Most desirable area in Sheffield = Middlewood? Don't kid yourself. Converting a hospital into "luxury" apartments, aka. a block of flats, does not suddenly make the area the most des res in Sheffield. Its also definitely NOT rural.

In answer to the original post, why not look at the villages on the edge of the Peak District and in the Hope Valley? Ringinglow, Hathersage, Hope, etc are all nice countryside villages within reach of Sheffield and very much desirable (infinitely more so than Middlewood/Hillsborough IMO, unless of course football louts, rowdy pubs and never ending rows of Coro-like terraced houses are your cuppa).

Beighton,Owlthorpe and Renishaw might suit your bill. There are some very good houses for sale in these areas. If you are interested in new built houses, there is a developement going on in Renishaw and i think near Morrisons in Halfway.
Bundells and Haybrook seems to be selling most houses in these areas and contacting them might be helpful.
Generally these are fairly good areas and the only drawback is lack of good secondary schools. However many from these areas go to Aston and i understand Birley Spa is improved considerably and their results are catching up with some good schools and so in the next few years this scenario might also change.
Local amenities are good.Crystal Peaks is nearby, leisure facilities are closeby.Ease of commuting to motorways and city is very good.
Sothall was recently voted as one of the best areas to live in Britain and property values are very reasonable and hence there is a potential for a steep raise later if the trend of unreasonable prices continue in other areas of Sheffield.
Good luck with house hunting.

Would you please shut the heck up you annoying little pompous Tory boy gob****e!

You live in Eccleshall, so what the buggery do you know about Middlewood?! And they are not flats, they are very respectable HOUSES lived in by respectable people, not council estate leftovers such as probably yourself.

I predicted a response like this from you... Just because I didn't mention Eccleshall (which isn't surprising given I live nowhere near it and consequently would know nothing of it).

Rich, even overlooking the fact that your post is insulting and immature, Middlewood is not a rural area or village, as was originally requested. Also, the Middlewood Hospital conversion consists of flats, not houses. I do venture out of Ecclesall from time to time, and do know what the Middlewood/Hillsborough area is like, and to claim that its the most desirable area in Sheffield is plain ridiculous. To suggest it in a thread where "rural/village" areas are requested is just beyond absurd.

Here we go again (sigh). Stop squabbling!

For hardtack_qui...

The next time you come to Sheffield, come down the M1, get off at J36 and look either side of the A61 between the motorway and the area called Grenoside as it comes into Sheffield. Lots of nice areas, rural and you should be OK with your budget.

Then another time, come off at J36 again, and take the road through Hoyland Common and again all the way to Chapeltown there are lots of great places either side that should be on budget. Elsecar has lots of new houses and it's very pretty and historic, but both roads in have loads of lovely areas and properties.

Easy and quick to get into Rotherham from that part of the world.

But are the wrong side of Sheffield for Rotherham, unfortunately.

Looks like the promise you made below lasted less than 2 weeks :)
