View Full Version : The Fosters / High Green
What's the Fosters like at High Green? It looks like a bomb site. I've heard they are going to be done up, who owns them??? It's about time they made up their minds what they are going to do with them. Whats your views on this matter!!
OwlsChick 09-03-2006, 19:16 My Ex lived not far from them. we talking about them scrubby flats???
horrible they are. plus i always saw gangs congrigating at the bottom of them, with cider from the little scubby shop underneath flats.
Cant imagine what the place looks like inside, i dont think i even want to know.
OWLSCHICK SAYS DYNAMITE TIME :hihi:
Reidstar 10-03-2006, 08:45 I have one or two acquaintances at The Fosters. I think generally the area is very poor and there doesn't seem a lot for kids to do there. The area looks very run down and I hear there is a lot of crime there. I think if more money and resources were pumped into the area this may alleviate some of the problems. Same old story innit.
Internetowl 10-03-2006, 08:58 think 'shameless' with cider
Fosters is probably the worse flats in sheffield. No one will move in them (do you blame them) SCC are trying to give them away. Full of smackheads and drunks. Makes you wonder what could be crawling in the shop under them
Used to live with ex in a house bang across from those flats. Full of the low life of high green. The guy who runs the shop underneath has to have 24 hour security. They tried to burn the shop down the other month. Stay well away.
I Live In These Flats And They Are Brilliant, Yes There Are Some Idiots About At Times And The Shops Brilliant, You Can Get Almost Anything From There. So You Guys Who Havent Been In Them, Shut It Until You Try It
foofighter11 12-03-2006, 19:28 well said my brother in law lives in them not that bad and all the low life that hang round dont live in them they just meet there
So what do you both think about the flats, should they be pulled down with you all in them or kick you out and put proper tenents in them?
Yeah, Thanks For That, I Aint No Tramp And I Dont Live Like One, All The Arses That Are Slagging The Flats Want To Take A Good Look At Their Areas They Live In, Bet They Av Some Dodgey Caracters Hanging About At Night And Some Dodgey Corner Shops Etc
Mr Green G You Wanna Go Feel Yourself, I Am A Proper Tennant, I Pay My Rent (although Get Some Help With It From Tax Payers) So What Moe You Wanna Throw At Me
NOT SAYING YOU ARE A TRAMP , BUT YOU GOTTA ADMIT , THE FLATS HAVE A **** NAME FOR THEMSELVES , OK MAYBE THIS HAS BEEN FROM WHEN THE COUNCIL OWNED THEM , BUT WHEN PEOPLE DRIVE BY THIS DUMP AND LOOK AT ALL THESE IDIOTS HANGING ABOUT & EVEN ENTERING THE BLOCK , WHAT ARE WE MEANT TO THINK , THIS IS A IDEAL PLACE TO LIVE .... :loopy:
foofighter11 12-03-2006, 19:51 the idiots enter the flats becouse the f****** lock is **** thats surpose to keep them out and yes the flats do look like crap but dont tare all the tenants with the same brush are should the council pull them down and move every 1 to a place nea:hihi: r u
you make your home yours, never mind how much crap goes on outside, ive lived here 10 years now and seen it all, ive been down town drinkin and seen alot worse. i came over here from Kosovo and people have been great to me, the government are fantastic provide all my utensils etc and the people are great around here, i get a few remarks from the idiots but who cares, this is my home now regardless of how it looks on the outside, its whats on the inside that matters.
Need I Say Anymore , Hg Man ~ Should'nt You Be Tucked Away In Bed After A Hard Days Graft At The Car Wash On Peniston Rd Or 1 Nearby , I Hope You Are Happy With Your Lifestyle , Do You Pay Any Tax On Your Job , What About Rent And Bills Who Pays For These , Im Sorry If A Seem To Be Rude , Only My Daughter Has Been Trying To Get A House In High Green For 10 Yrs , Just About The Same Time You Have Lived In Fosters , How Come You Get A Easy Ticket And My Daughter Has To Cope Living In A Bedsit , Ok Its Not Your Fault , But Something Is Going Wrong Along The Line !!!
Used to live with ex in a house bang across from those flats. Full of the low life of high green. The guy who runs the shop underneath has to have 24 hour security. They tried to burn the shop down the other month. Stay well away.
If i was you id get my facts straight before posting,
The guy who runs the shop,is acctually 3 guys and 3 women, and no they do not have 24 hour security at all,
I live not far from the Fosters and have done so for 9 years now,Ive never had any problems at all,The people are very friendly that live near by,However they dont stand for any s**t off anyone either.
Many people think that HighGreen is a very rough area, but its not at all,I do agree that the flats do attract some idiots but these idiots dont only live in HighGreen,They come from other areas too ie...Shiregreen !!!!!
Reidstar 12-03-2006, 21:00 What has happened to this thread?
How Come You Get A Easy Ticket And My Daughter Has To Cope Living In A Bedsit
....erm perhaps because of persecution in Kosovo?
This thread seems to have deviated from The Fosters / High Green to some sort of personal disagreement?!?!?
Beetlebum 12-03-2006, 21:01 Fosters isn't as bad as it used to be a few years ago, seems pretty quiet whenever i pass by.
Worst place in high green now for kids congregating seems to be around co-op accross from the Phoenix.
Late-shoppers seem to attract kids in all areas.
Good luck to the guy from Kosovo, I'm glad you like Highgreen. I do and have been around a few years. We need positive people like that, not whingers who criticise the place all the time.
I Think There Is One Guy That Runs The Shop, And Maybe 6 That Work There So Get Your Facts Straight. Anyhow Must Admit That Living In The Fosters Is Like Being On A Paradise Island Compared To Kosovo. You Losers That Are Dissing It Should Live In My Former Country And Think Yourself Lucky. You Dont Know What Youve Got
Ignore the blatant racist, I agree. . your home is your home, no matter where it is and what's around it. .
I've lived up on the Mannor, Batemoor, Thorp Heasley and woodseats and although cosmetically there maybe minor differences, they all had the same thing in common, they were my home. .
Anyone that thinks their (or anyones) area is better / worse than any others are way too materialistic and if they can be bothered to argue the toss, then they have waaaay too much time on their hands. .
FOUND OUT TODAY , THE FOSTERS ARE OWNED BY THE COUNCIL , BUT SOUTH YORKSHIRE HOUSING TOOK OUT A 10yr LEASE FROM THEM WHICH RUNS OUT IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS . BOTH PARTIES ARE THINKING OF MERGING TOGETHER & DOING A MAJOR REFURB . I WISH THEY WOULD HURRY UP & DECIDE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO . MY OPINION IS TO FLATTEN THEM JUST LIKE THE COUNCIL HAVE DONE IN OTHER PARTS OF THE CITY:hihi:
Different horses for different courses. . I'd say do em up a bit and the surrounding area. The whole of foster way could do with a bit of touching up.
On a clear day, you can see fosters flats from the top of woodseats park and vice versa..
WOTS THAT GOT TO DO WITH IT !! , On a clear day YOU CAN SEE THE TURDS FLOATING IN SKEGGY SEA !! (LOL)
Mearly highlighting the differences in attitude, ol' bean. . you live closer to em and want to tear em down - I don't live anywhere near em and don't wanna tear em down. . . do you see??
I Do See Wot U Mean ol' Bean , Like U Said B4 horses 4 Courses !!
I used to drive the 76,77 & 80 Buses around there, its not to bad during the day but at night its a no-go area around the flats.
This was the main reason why the route 76 was diverted and does not termimate at the Fosters.
SPOT ON THERE MATE , THERE'S ALOT MORE BAD POINTS THAN GOOD ON KEEPING THE FOSTERS ON , ANYBODY WHO LIVES IN THIS AREA , WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE FOSTERS AND THE SURROUNDING AREA ???
High Green is a good area to live, when? they blow up the Fosters you might find it will be a better place to live, in High Green there are 2 yob hot spot's which is the Fosters & the old co-op on Wortley Road apart from that we had no other problems on the buses.
Oh Oh............There are some very angry people here with a couple of other burning issues as well aren't there. I don't post very often - tend to off on a rant/tangent but I can't ignore the posts that are factually wrong and others that are bordering on abusive or at the very least, ignorant. From people who don't even live round here?
Deep breath.....................................
I've lived in High Green for over 2 years and I can see the Fosters clearly from my bedroom window even when its foggy - The building is a blot on the landscape - delapidated and would look ugly even if renovated - I hate it -but whats the point of condemning the people who live there? .....and the <scuddy shop?> Excuse me? I use that shop - it may be scruffy but the man who runs it is lovely, provides a service and deserves respect for that. Angram Bank Stores it's called and he gets some very cheap lines. No I'm not a friend of his - but he's not here to defend his business is he? I had no choice but to investigate the wild side of High Green recently because my car was stolen and I was relieved to have a shop close by. I took the car theft quite personally and am still checking doors and windows constantly, but it could have happened anywhere in the country so no smart alec told you so retorts please.
In an ideal world I would like to see the flats demolished and low level houses built and every one of those tenants given the chance of one of the new homes or similar - they've earnt it. And for the record, - its a lovely area and generally quieter than any other Council estate ( or private one for that matter) I've lived near or on - and I've lived in some dumps in London.
I'm staying put regardless. Anyone else live that close? Anyone feeling sufficiently motivated to start some sort of pressure group and draw attention to the problem? Is there one already? Or is this just another thread of empty whinging?
pm me with any thoughts - I'm a big girl - i can handle it!
On a clear day, you can see fosters flats from the top of woodseats park and vice versa..[/QUOTE]
The point being.........?
i am not condoning your points here, but I am going to pm you with a landlord who may be able to help your daughter.
Eastwoodgill 14-03-2006, 12:31 My friend is having a big 40 party up there in a fortnight and i believe he is going to buy most of his food from the out of date specialist below the flats at high green, god help our stomachs.

Ive just remembered a story a driver told me. Sheffield City Council drop a clanger over the flats, they were going to pull them down in the late 1990's but a mobile phone company asked to put up a transmitter on the top of the flats, now because there was a breakdown in communication between council departments the trainsmitter was put up ( on a 10 year deal I think ) and so the flats could not be pulled down

Any members know how to find out if this is true from public records? Any Councillors out there?

well yes he does have out of date stock and the chocolate sometimes isn't quite right, but you don't have to buy it - he has plenty of in-date stuff and bread/milk etc. Its a little emergency shop that probably sells booze, fags, sweets and the Sheffield Star - like most little shops trying to compete with the big boys. But thats another new thread entirely!
There's nothing wrong with Highgreen that a return to 'proper' community policing would'nt put right. I know a few of the local constabulary and they all seem to share this view. The last 'bobby' we had was Simon English, and he was steadily improving matters untill he was moved to Stocksbridge to take a co-ordinating role. The Chapeltown officer, Peter Booth is a first class officer who genuinely cares about the area, especially issues concerning troublesome teenagers.
It now comes all down to cost. If we want community policing done at a higher profile, then the council tax and Income Tax would have to be increased. Are we willing to pay or not?
I grew up near the flats in the 70's, I left Highgreen in 85 and it wasn't a bad area, I drove through last year and though I look like a war zone
mr gg do i know you name rings a bell r u the green goblin if so i know who u r from staffie
I WAS SPEAKING TO THE MAN WHO LOOKS AFTER THE FOSTERS TODAY , HE WORKS 4 SOUTH YORKSHIRE HOUSING , HE SAID HOPEFULLY IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS THE COUNCIL & SOUTH YORKSHIRE HOUSING WILL BE COMING UP WITH A SOLUTION , I ASKED HIM WHAT HE MEANT BY THIS , HE TOLD ME TO WATCH THIS SPACE (WHAT EVER THAT MEANS ) , I ALSO ASKED HIM WAS IT TRUE THEY COULD'NT KNOCK THE FLATS DOWN BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMITTER ON THE ROOF , HE SAID WHAT ALOAD OF CRAP . NOW HERES A BLOKE WHO SHOULD KNOW WHAT HE IS ON ABOUT , HE HAS WORKED AND LIVED ON THE FLATS 4 NEARLY 9 YRS . I ASKED HIM WHAT WAS HIS VIEW ON THE FLATS, HE SAID THEY SHOULD BE FLATENED . :P :hihi:
Reidstar 14-03-2006, 18:59 Green G - I see you haven't responded to my accusation of racism in your previous comments. Have I poked a sore wound? If so good.
I hate those flats, i can see them from my house and they spoil the lovely veiw. they are so ugly!!!!! cant someone do something????

Ask the Bus Drivers on the route 76, I am sure they can drive into the flats if the price is right.
SaxonLeigh 15-03-2006, 13:51 There is nothing wrong with High Green, I lived there for 20 years with my parents. I live in Doncaster now & only moved away because a) I couldn’t afford a house in High Green & b) my partners business is based in Doncaster & it’s much easier for me to move & travel to work than to disrupt my partners business. I feel really home sick here & would love to move back to Sheffield.
I never found the Fosters to be that bad of a place, I have lots of friends up there still & my parents have lots of friends who live up there. The flats arnt that bad either, ok so they don’t look that good but I’m sure something can be done about them to make them look more aesthetically pleasing like what they have done with Hyde Park flats.
If you think the Fosters are bad I’ve been on many jobs with my other half in Hyde Park, Intake, Highfields, Barnby Dun & Balby & they are worse places than any place’s I’ve been in Sheffield.

I dont think people are saying that High Green is a bad area, around 20 years ago it was on par with Dore / Totley is just the flats that let it down, get rid of them and the area will look better over night:hihi:
REIDSTAR , WHAT R U ON ABOUT RACISM !!! , CANT REMEMBER GOING DOWN THAT LINE (GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT)

Must be quite close to where I am the, Raven. Have a look at my post - the long one from yesterday.
This is a very good thread but certain members are choosing it to air their grievances with each other. Can I suggest respectfully that personal disputes be continued in private?
And there was me frettin and waiting for the flack!

Get real ! it's never been on par with Dore :D , in fact it's never been anywhere near par :D . I've lived in the area (Chap) for a long, long time and there is some decent parts that surround the Beirut bit. Even a mate of mine who lives there calls it the Ghetto. There are some really decent folk around there but like has been mentioned there's some real bad uns. The flats however contribute to the ghetto image and wouldn't be missed in my opinion
I used to be on the high green TARA when i lived up there and i`m sure i heard the story of the mast on top of the flats. We were always in talks with the council trying to get them dimolished. There IS only one owner of the shop underneath i still go in as my daughter lives with her mum opposite. It`s a great shop for emergency fresh stuff and if you want a cheap can of beer (who cares if they`re out of date you still get ****** on out of date beer)
Some other members of the TARA lived in the flats and THEY wanted them knocking down as in there own words not mine " they were full of druggies"
Sorry if i upset anyone but i think they should be pulled down.
Ask the Bus Drivers on the route 76, I am sure they can drive into the flats if the price is right.
lol i dont like the buses either, i live on a bus route and they wake me up!

Are they as bad as there reputation HG or is it just rumours. They seamed bad when i lived there and John who owns the shop used to have no end of trouble from some of those that lived in them. It`s 4 years since i lived up there. Maybe things have changed.

HI PEDRO , TO BE HONEST I DONT THINK ITS THE RESIDENTS OF THE FLATS WHAT ARE BAD NEWS , OK MAYBE JUST A COUPLE OF FLATS (NO NAMES MENTIONED) , ITS ALL THE LITTLE HOODIES DICKS WHAT HANG AROUND THE SHOP & FLATS WHICH MAKES PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE TENENTS OF THE BLOCK , AND TO ALL YOU GEEKS WHO THINK ITS FULL OF SMACK HEADS , WELL I HAVE BEEN ON THE BLOCK TODAY & DONE MY OWN DOOR TO DOOR INQUIRIES AND FOUND OUT ALOT OF THE DRUG USE IS FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT COME IN THE FLATS TO SHOOT UP ON THE STAIRS . IM SORRY IF I HAVE GIVEN THE FOSTERS A BAD NAME IN THE PAST BUT I WAS WRONG , YOU CANT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER , ANYWAY ITS ABOUT TIME WE STOOD UP TO THESE LOWLIFE AND GIVE THEM ABIT OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE
ONE GOOD THING WHEN IT SNOWS HEAVY IN HIGH GREEN , YOU CANT SEE THE FOSTERS !!:hihi:
I LIVE IN THOSE FLATS AND FOR YOU TO SUGGEST SOMTHING LIKE THAT AFTER THE SEPTEMBER THE 11TH ATTACKS I THINK IS DISGUSTING. , .......
Dont worry it would be empty when the 76 go's into it, it would be a cheaper way of pulling them down:D
ONE GOOD THING WHEN IT SAYS HEAVY IN HIGH GRREN , YOU CANT SEE THE FOSTERS !!:hihi:
You don't live as close as I do, then. I keep looking out the window and its always there!

Oh no, It is so disgusting to have a sense of humour after a "terrorist" attack over 5 years ago, Hey how about 4 76's that would do the trick, oh no that would never work, they would all be late and wouldn't turn up together anyway.
DONT FORGET TO PUT ALL THE ROBBING SMACK HEADS IN :hihi:
Its a right dump up there especially the flats i don't know whats worst the block of flats or the shop underneath it
SO DO I !!! :gag:
Hi Green G - That was a bit too close for comfort at the time so i didn't reply. I'm quite a nervous little person sometimes! I bet we've passed each other in the street or in local shops etc, but that doesn't bother me now! You might be interested in this new thread about High Green as well -

I drove passed the Fosters today for the first time in years , this bit of High Green was/is a major problem with Anti-Social-Behaviour and going passed it today the whole area of the flats look like a bomb site, High Green used to be such a nice area , please do Sheffield a favour and pull the Fosters down:thumbsup:
the free paper said this place is coming down (unless there are 2 blocks this fugly in Sheffield...nah, doubt it)
I lived in High Green for 21 yrs with my parents not too far from the flats, when I was younger I used to knock around at the flats and in the park, and it wasn't that bad of any area then, when i was about 12/13 yrs old I delivered the freeby papers in the flats, and OH MY GOD they weren't that brill then, lifts stunk, i would never dared use them, they were scruffy, so god knows what they look like now. I agree they are a bit of an eye sore when driving through, KNOCK THEM DOWN. Is all the paint still flacking off the outside?
they are being knocked down for apartments!!!!!! about bloody time!!!!! :)
chelle 35 25-07-2011, 12:39 I know the flats need to be pulled down but do they have to start at SILLY oclock EVERY day.... Some of us need our beauty sleep tha nose x
