Hey all,
I am currently living in Leicester and am planning to move up to Sheffield as I have some friends who live here. Unfortunately, my friends haven't lived here very long so can't answer my query... Basically, I know I want to live on Eccy Road but I am getting seriously confused with the different areas on Eccy Road (ie, Hunters Bar, Banner Cross etc). Can anyone please provide me with a run down of the different areas? My friends live opposite Tesco Metro and I would like to make sure I don't waste anyones time by looking at rooms completely out of that area!
Cheers!

Areas around Ecclesall Road that might interest you are:
Botanical Gardens, Hunters Bar, Sharrow Vale and Ecclesall Road.
Banner Cross is a bit too far out for your purposes.
Don't confuse Ecclesall Road and Ecclesall Road South (which starts at Hunter's Bar) or worse still with Ecclesall, which is well past hunter's bar.

Ecclesall Rd is a long road running out from town. About slap bang in the middle is the Botanical Gardens area (Where I live) and thats across the road from the precient with Pizza Hut, Blockbuster and Tesco.
Sharrowvale Road runs kind of parrellel to Ecclesall Rd just behind it and has some more of the independant or junky stores (mostly my favourites!) Hunters Bar is probably as far out as you'd want to be going to stay near your friends. It's near the end of the main Ecclesall Rd Furthest away from town, and is also a really nice area.
A LOT of buses run up that way if you don't fancy the walk. But good luck It's a really nice area.

Phan, Eccy rd South starts a bit higher up, at Banner Cross, by the junction of psalter lane, where the Gilders car showroom is.
you are quite right in saying that the two districts should not be confused.
The areas that cluster round Hunters Bar have a large student population, and lots of HIMO (houses in multiple occupation). It's a nice enough area, and good facilities, fantastic shops, park etc, as well as good public transport links to town.
