Did anyone watch the Referee Programme last night (Tue 7/3) after the Chelsea game? What did you think.

I think it managed to partly get across the life of a referee. It also stated the obvious in that much of the problems refs have is from Professional football.

What bothered me is that Jeff Winter (who i liked as a ref) stated that refs need to red card big players for Foul & abusive language which in turn may help park referees. But as a ex top level referee, why didn't he do it?

Plus the family that are banned, the father shoudl hang is head in shame IMO.

the problem with referees (at any level in any sport) is simple

They are not bothered who wins :D

Best Refs are Rugby Refs. They don't take any S**t, explain clearly what the decision they have made is. If, like in the case of a free kick, anybody argues the kick is moved forward. Best of all they have use of a Sin Bin. Send a player off for 10 mins and see the improvement in the game. Would sort the Drama Queens out from the lads that want to play.

They are still unpopular because they don;t care who wins...

However, the best entertainment is the sky rugby league when you can generally hear the referee and what he says.

"Now look fred, I really don;t care if you spend the next 10 minutes playing the game or watching it"

Also interesting to see them cover the microphone up sometimes in high profile games or at controversial moments
