View Full Version : In Town - Upmarket Bars?
Normally when I go out it's jeans and t-shirt, or maybe trousers and skirt.
Is there anywhere in town you'd not feel a prat going out and wearing a suit?
Yodameister 07-04-2004, 22:55 God I hope not!
That was really helpful, thanks.
E-Man Groovin 08-04-2004, 18:21 I personally like wearing suits even though like you I'm out in casuals generally. Anyways, the only bar that springs to mind is Sola.
There are a number of restaurants where suits would be cool.

I don't know either sorry :( I'd be interested if a name pops up here.
Ok, enough with the chitter chatter...trousers and a skirt? :loopy: Or am I presuming you're a man from the suit statement?
mr craig 08-04-2004, 18:35 Again the only bar that springs to mind is Sola, and i think thats more of a restaurant now. I know the Wig & Pen thats on Campo Lane is suppose to be pretty smart to,tho i haven't been in yet.
lol. I meant Shirt. I don't believe I've ever worn a skirt, even for a dare.
jaki_fruit 09-04-2004, 00:19 why dont you try 'Hush' on Dev st? pretty up-town... there are a few bars on west st aswell...
whats wrong with wearin a suit to any old bar?!
just doesn't fit in at Corp.
jaki_fruit 10-04-2004, 22:26 just dont wear a suit
it's that a rather circular argument?
evildrneil 11-04-2004, 09:28 I've worn a suit to corp before - but only on Halloween! A suit will probably not raise eyebrows at any of the places billing themselves as bars on West Street / Division Street - the ones that spring to mind are Lions Laire, Hush, BRB, Forum, Vodka Revolution, Bia Hoi, Lounge etc
Try Takapuna on West street, I'm a door picker there on the weekend, and it's is part of the door policy that you have to make an effort and look smart and presentable. Try jacket over jeans for an idea, cool but smart at the same time. XXX
I'm with crazey, it all depends on what sort of suit. Not that i think he/she would pick you out if you were in a nice double breasted pinstripe. Do you wear a tie with it?

and look like everyone else.......
sorry but the job door picker just makes me laugh - can't be doing with places that decide on if you can come in or not on how fashionable you are.
Forum Monkey, your not one of the football fans who wears burberry and stone island are you? otherwise theres good need for door pickers and also a little bit of pot kettle black!
fnkysknky 13-04-2004, 12:47 No I'm not thanks - I hate Burberry with a passion. I wear what I like to wear and not what others tell me to. I've never been refused entry anywhere on what I've been wearing - acutally I think I was refused entry to Kingdom once for wearing trainers but that was a probably a blessing in disguise :)
It's just the whole 'door picker' crap that gets on my nerves and the I'm better than you attitude. Other bars manage ok without a 'door picker' - bouncers manage to keep out the pikey arseholes fine on their own. I went to Takapuna once and they let us all in apart from one of my mates who doesn't go out much just because he didn't have the right top on - I really can't be arsed with walking down West Street to even bother with the place now.
isn't a jacket with jeans rather 80's rather than cool?
Was amused last week, went out on Thursday night, went to the 80's bar next door to what was the rat and parrot. The place was literally empty, we saw as we walked past the window.
But the bouncer wouldn't let us in because 2 of the group were carrying motorcycle helmets.... Surpring that, since they'd ridden into town on motorcycles.
He offered to let them leave them in the porch area and keep and eye on them, these helmets cost 2 or 3 hundred quid each, you don't leave them in the porch with some bouncer you don't know from jack. And you wouldn't ever use them to hit someone! They have to be replaced after an impact.
So we went elsewhere and for the rest of the night took them in and out of pubs all over the centre with no problems.
fnkysknky 13-04-2004, 13:39 Nah a blazer with jeans is the in thing now................
