View Full Version : Are there really this many guests online?
1:25 am - early hours of Tuesday - 23 members online (although only twenty usernames appear - the usual suspects this time of night) - but 176 guests!
Is this real - what do they find so fascinating - I can't imagine viewing the Forum and not taking part.
I've noticed some high counts at other times - I can imagine it during say lunch hour when people may log on from work to read posts but, like me, can't log on as a user because of company rules.
However I can't really believe there are about 8 times as many guests lurking out there this time of night as there are users.
Jimbob1989 07-03-2006, 00:31 They might not be people :) they might be what are called search engine bots. When you do a search in google or whatever, as it would take humans millions of years to get the details of every page and create an index of it, robots do it and on a forum of this size with so many news posts and topics being made all the time, they get real busy :)
I was thinking something along the same lines Jimbob - although I'd be amazed if there were that many "bots" - and who exactly is indexing the recorded sayings of kirky, don_kiddick etc:hihi:
It does make you think how reliable the "record number of users" is.
Jimbob1989 07-03-2006, 00:40 Lol, its possible. I've read of thousands of the buggers being on a single forum at once :loopy: crazy.
bjshooter 07-03-2006, 00:40 Would you appear as a guest when you get logged out? because it happens so often that I don't bother logging back in until I find a thread I want to post on. But that still seems like a lot of people:huh:
redrobbo 07-03-2006, 00:43 Well, right now, these are a few of the guests on-line and what they are doing.....

AM = AM as in morning.
Jimbob1989 07-03-2006, 00:47 hmm :) I wonder if they have different robots running durring AM to PM to ease the load, or maybe when one lot isnt spidering its building reports with the data it has collected.
redrobbo 07-03-2006, 00:48 Thanks spyro. Now you know why I've chosen my new registered name! :hihi:

ahah yes you are right. Its just that I rarely ever see SF while its PM. Im mostly on in the AM.
But saying that, why does your post say 06:23 AM, shouldnt it say 6:23 AM?
Plus what are you doing up at that time :hihi:
"Bots" on the Forum currently outnumbering members in the ratio of 5:1 - ah well, nice to know our words of wisdom are being painstakingly indexed for the benefit of the www.
Could raise the average IQ in Leeds by a couple of dozen points :hihi:
