View Full Version : Save man, or save beast?
Controversial thread time folks.
Reasoned debate, and no cheap shots at other posters' morals, intelligence nor ethics. Promise?
A scenario for you all to ponder, and then decide upon your reactions.
Fred West, Gary Glitter, Myra Hindley, and your faithful old pet dog (pretend you have one if you haven't), all fall into a freezing canal at the same time. All are stuggling and within minutes of drowning.
You have just two minutes to rescue one of them only. Which one would you save?
My gut reaction says the dog. Based purely on my respect for him/her, and lack of respect for the other three.
Would I be making the wrong choice, on moral grounds, or would you make the same choice?
Remember, no moral high ground please.
DaBouncer 06-03-2006, 17:04 Same choice for me too.
In fact I'd save a drowning slug over either of the other 3!
My dog, always always always my dog. Of course, my dog wouldn't be stupid enough to fall in the canal in the first place ;)
miniminch 06-03-2006, 17:07 obviously Fred West, i eat his salmon!
Thanks for responses so far.
I was going to ask:
"If a mugger grabbed an old lady's bag in front of you, and ran off down the canal towpath with the old lady's pet dog chasing him, would you pull the dog or the mugger out of the canal if they both went in?" - Assuming of course that they were both drowning and you could only save one.
But I thought that the three people I mentioned would make the choices easier to make.
daverity 06-03-2006, 17:13 I thought it was a shame when Fred West topped himself in prison. He'd have made a great Mungo Jerry on Stars In Their Eyes! :hihi: :hihi:
well all 4 are dogs but 1 is my friendly pet dog so no contest
would save the friendly pet dog:thumbsup:
obviously Fred West, i eat his salmon!
And Gary Glitter brightens up your tree? :P

Also an easy one - the dog. The old lady would probably much rather have her devoted companion back than get sued by some scrote git because her dog had chased him into the canal.
The dog! But then you might also get sued by the mugger's family for allowing him to drown, or they'd accuse you of kicking him into the cut.
Besides, the mugger would probably be wearing shellsuit bottoms, and if he pulled 'em off, he could make himself a lifebelt out of 'em.
youwhatref 06-03-2006, 17:46 So easy and i'm sure no one will disagree. My pooch would be saved as woudl the old ladies. The others can have bricks in the pockets.
My faith in Human nature is steadily being restored.
candystick 06-03-2006, 18:05 It would be the dog for me too.
EmilyJane 06-03-2006, 19:25 The dog everytime, the other 3 I would leave to fate /karma.
Dog for me as well!
And I'd stand on the bank watching the other 3 drown as well :)
Internetowl 06-03-2006, 20:01 None of them - Hindley and West are already dead, Glitter will soon be and the dog can rescue himself.
Besides which the waters cold, its cold outside and as a unwaged person I have no intention of doing any work ;)
Don_Kiddick 07-03-2006, 06:29 Beautifully put Internetowl
Now, back to sofa dear, Tricia's starting soon. :hihi:
Internetowl 07-03-2006, 06:50 Why thank you Donkey, but I do prefer Jez Kyle - its much more biting ;)
Albatross 07-03-2006, 07:08 None. I ain't got a dog and I sure wouldn't get wet for the other three.
in this case it would be the dog
but what if it was an innocent child in a push chair,or an elderly lady, would the choice be the same ? i wonder
probably watch um all drown
