Its rare i know so ill keep it brief.
Counselling.
I need a counsellor.
A friend has been having difficulties of a personal nature for many years and in recent months things gotten worse.
This friend was abused as a child, sexualy, emotionally and physicaly and they thought they had put it behind them.
However, recent months have proved otherwise and its having a huge effect on their current relationship so counselling could be the way forward.
So the question is, can anyone recomend a good well established counsellor that can maybe get the the root of the issue and possibly help resolve it.
Thanks :)

If your friend is female she should contact either of these organisations.

I have a family member who managed to get counselling of this nature through their employers. They got 6 sessions, which have proved invaluable, the counsellor is unable to offer private sessions in this instance, but did make herself available over the phone.

I'll check if she can do private sessions,if so i'll pm you.

Thanks both of you.
Rang the SWCTS and they are sending her a form to fill out. The down side though is that they are incredibly busy and have a waiting list but that cant be helped.
They also gave lots of info on the phone about other places she could try in the meantime..

Hi, have you tried talking to your doctor, they may be able to recommend someone or even refer your friend to a counsellor. The other option is to find a private counsellor, this is a quick option. Good Luck!

I can recommend wholeheartedly John Hillman (Google him, he's in Sharrow) for a constructive way to deal with your issues and move forwards with better coping skills. The only down side is that he works privately so if you're broke that could be an issue.

She isnt wanting to go through the GP, im not sure why. I suggested it myself but i got a firm no.
She does work but im not sure about her financial possition but ill pass on all recomendations and if she hasnt got the money to go private, well i have a few bits and pieces ive been saving for my later years i can offload to raise a bit of cash.
Thats if shed even let me, shes a very indipendant women, which i think is part of the problem. Its taken years for her to "let me in" so to speak and tell me these problems but she wont tell anyone else which is a shame because she has some amazing friends whod moved the earth to help her.

I think you can self refer to the IAPT scheme, so your GP doesn't have to know about it?

Hi you could try talking to your doctor, they may recommend someone or even refer your friend if necessary. Private will cost but it's a quick appointment. A doctor's referral may take a bit longer but it's a cheaper option. Good Luck!

I think psychotherapy might be a little more helpful at getting to the root of the problem. counselling is quite passive and relies on her getting to grips with issues (with a little guidance).

Something like CAT therapy (look it up) or psychodynamic therapy might be worth investigating. I'm afraid I don't feel able to reccomend a good private one though as I have only ever had contact with NHS peoples for whom she will have to wait eons....

Hope that's in someway helpful. I have experience on both sides of the coin as practitioner and patient.

Best of luck to her.
