Bikertec 05-03-2006, 07:51 PM I really don't know but I should imagine theres quite a bit and It wouldn't be as cut throat as London.
Phanerothyme 05-03-2006, 09:23 PM Yup.
Plenty of relatively affluent people living in 100 year old houses - we've used plasterers and Tilers before and will do so again, and we can't be the only ones.
Get yersel' up here, drink the tap water, smell the (relatively) fresh air and you won't go back.
What made you want to move to Sheff?
Yellowrose 05-03-2006, 09:47 PM Painting work is difficult to find on a long term basis if you want to work for an employer. I know someone who does this and he only seems to get work in the spring and summer.
banjopaul99 05-03-2006, 09:49 PM I am just retrainig as a painter and decorator, sheffield has been allocated millions of pounds for a 10yr redevelopment scheme and new build propertys KIER and other building companys are just about to explode with construction work, all trades will be required for years ahead, so i tell you this get yourself up here before you can`t get somewhere to live. if you need any further help feel free to pm me

The Decent Homes standards currently being undertaken in council properties should be completed by 2010. But there is undoubtedly a lot of call for skilled workers in the painting and decorating trades until then.
banjopaul99 06-03-2006, 01:57 AM Well good luck AYMAN if you do come to live and work here, sheffield is a great place.

But painting might drive me insane.
Ayman 09-03-2006, 03:14 PM Yup.
What made you want to move to Sheff?
My otherhalf works in one of sheff hospitals. I have visited Sheff before and found it to be very easy going city, with lots of friendly people around, and very clean city. OK its not as diverse as London and there is not as much things to do, but i think the clean air compensate for that.
babsie 09-03-2006, 03:38 PM Huge development around Rother Valley area.
Sheffield's great - come and join us!

The let property landlords are more often than not deparate for someone like you, try contacting them. Web sites such as The Artful Lodger and this Forum would give you some info but a stroll up Ecclesall Road with pen and notebook in hand would be better as you will see every lanlords advertising boards.
upinwath 10-03-2006, 03:11 PM You will get more cash in London but it costs a lot more to live down there.
As a rule Sheffield people are friendly and the place is fine.
Good luck
