Can anyone remember, The family who sold crockery and dinner services in the Market, I used to stand for ages watching their routine of throwing plates and cups and saucers and whole dinner sets across the market stall and not breaking any..They were so good that they went on the TV in the 60's.
They were the Edward's family. Originally they had the stall near the top entrance to the Rag n Tag Market' opposite Dixons boiled sweet shop.
The two brothers used to throw the dinner sets around without ever breaking as much as a plate.
They drew the crowds who were fascinated with their clever antics, they put on quite a show and it did sell their wares.
At that time they were the spirit of the market people, no pettiness, endless laughs, good heart and were willing to work for their money-none of this take it or leave attitude.
They did appear in one or two tv programmes over the years.
I'd love to know what happened to them??

Now theres a memory, we bought one of our first dinner sevices from old man Edwards when we got married, what a shame that after all this time, Sheffield has'nt got a market worth talking about.
Do's anyone remember "Holts" where you could buy a stone of spuds for 1 shilling (thats 5p in todays money).
J Lockwood Edwards china dealer is your man. Listed in the Kellys directory,s Penistone Rd and the Sheaf market in the 60,s
Johnny Holt used to have his vegetable stall at the left handside next to the bottom entrance opposite South Street.
He sold the cheapest Veggies in the 'Rag n Tag'.
Later he had a stall outside the entrance to the Castle Market next to Bomber Graham's Gold Shop.
What a Market that was, whatever happened to the planning of the new markets.
What a mess these days!
mick edwards is my husbands cousin, he lives with his wife june in vainor road wadsley, although officially retired he still keeps his hand in selling on sunday makets.
