surfinjim 05-03-2006, 01:57 AM Who do you think will be on the plane this summer barring injury?
I've got 17/18 definates but then struggling to perm 5 from around 20.
I've also had to include David James (saddens me to do so!)
Here's my 23. ( What ever happened to the 22 as in "Ron's 22)
GK; Robinson, James, Green (Would love to pick someone else other than James and not too keen on Green either)
Defenders: Neville, Campbell, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand, Carragher, Young, King
(That's Gary Neville, not his uglier useless twin!)
Midfield: Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, SWP, Cole,Carrick, Downing, Jenas
Forwards: Owen, Rooney, Crouch, Defoe
I would have loved to pick Vassell as he always does well for England, but just not prominent at the moment.
The starting 11 picks itself at the moment, but I'd have SWP in from the off, and I still don't think we are sorted when we have Lampard/Gerrard together.
My start 11 would be;
Robinson
Neville
Cole
Terry
Campbell
SWP
Lampard
King
Cole
Rooney
Owen

Longcol 05-03-2006, 11:12 AM I'd only picK Sol Campbell if he gets back to something like his old form. I think Bridge (if fit) needs to be in to provide cover on the LHS. Not sure we need 8 mid fielders as King can provide cover there as well. Can't see Jenas getting a game. I'd go for the extra forward although struggling to think who - might be worth having somebody like Robbie Fowler in the squad who could play the last 20 mins and maybe nick a goal.
Robbie_Lovin 05-03-2006, 12:08 PM GK; Robinson, James, Green (Would love to pick someone else other than James and not too keen on Green either)
to be honest id rather take martyn at his age than take green.
Defenders: Neville, Campbell, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand, Carragher, Young, King
(That's Gary Neville, not his uglier useless twin!)
firstly G Neville is one of the ugliest players going and P neville is not uglier, secondly they are not twins, G Neville is about 2 years older.
also id leave campbell at home (on recent standing) and take bridge (who you gonna have covering left back?)
id also leave another one (not sure which) if woody was fully fit (possibly best defender we have, very debatable i know, but him and terry together would be amazing)
Midfield: Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, SWP, Cole,Carrick, Downing, Jenas
i wouldnt be taking carrick, id replace him with nolan.
downing is also another one im wary about, but at least he is a naturally left sided player.
Forwards: Owen, Rooney, Crouch, Defoe
id take vassell over defoe, 8 in 33 for defoe is not right, i know vassell has only got 7 in 26 though, but i think he is more of a threat. but id much prefer bent to go over both of them to be honest
surfinjim 05-03-2006, 04:58 PM I know the Neville's aren't twins, its called satire.
Agree with you on Martyn, but injured at present.
Woodgate worries me a lot. Fine player, but never fit.
LHS side cover at full back would be Young and Carragher, both played there before.

saxon51 05-03-2006, 05:01 PM Based on recent performances, I think the team with the best chance of succeeding in Germany should consist of;

Accrington Stanley :D:D
Agent Gypo 05-03-2006, 05:08 PM England are unlikely to win the tournament, and if they do I'd find the mass hysteria that will surely follow sickening.
So on that note, I don't really care who's in the squad. If they win; great, if not; oh dear.
Teabag 05-03-2006, 10:26 PM Starting eleven may change dependent on opposition:
Robinson
Neville
Cole
Terry
Ferdinand
Beckham
Lampard
Gerrard
Cole
Rooney
Owen
then with bring on SWP and Crouch if losing with 20 minutes remaining
or bring on King if winning (20 mins) for backham
scottishdude 06-03-2006, 09:53 AM I would include :- Glen Johnson Good Defender and handy if Goalie is sent off.
Darren Bent In Good Form and goals just around the corner.
Arron Lennon Very handy Midfielder and runs like a whippet.
England needs young players in the world cup as I think youngsters give that bit more and want it more.
Like the bit about Accrington Stanley :hihi:

Glen Johnson is one of the most over-rated players in England - proper cack. The last time he played for England he got ripped apart time and time again.
Robert Green makes me chuckle, even the Naarwich fans think he is way over-rated. Made mistakes a plenty this season despite only being in the Championship.
Scott Parker should get the nod over both Jenas and Carrick for me.
surfinjim 06-03-2006, 04:01 PM Completely forgot about about Scott Parker.
Agree with you, he should be in instead of Jenas.
As for Green and James, you will really struggle to find any other English keepers who are world class.
Lets hope that Robinson doesn't get injured itherwise I think we are shafted.
(Still like to see Cudicini with a British passport under residency, I'd have him)

Teabag, are you sven in disguise?
ReginaldD 29-03-2006, 02:57 AM If Dyer can stay fit he should definetly be on the plane as he's so versatile and with him we would not need to take a 5th striker as he could do the job if needed, as he has for Newcastle at times.
