Think it was on the buildings of Wood Lane Farm that was on fire from the smoke I saw. Paul_in_S17 07-04-2004, 01:06 Originally posted by Rich Yeah I've just come back from somewhere and saw that... Think it was on the buildings of Wood Lane Farm that was on fire from the smoke I saw. (Rich) I was on the phone to a driver tonight who was driving a 82 when they closed Stannington Rd, he has told me that he ask the bosses on the radio if the 82/83/83a could turn around at Rivelin Post Office, this would mean that passengers for Stannington would just have to walk up the hill behind the Rivelin Valley Road to get home. This was turn down and Drivers were told to turn around at Malin Bridge as the bosses would have had to do mork paper work to record the millage! Just thought I let you know incase you had to walk 3 Miles up Stannington Road tonight. slimsid2000 07-04-2004, 13:25 Why couldn't First bother to get their buses to Stannington via another route, like Loxely or Rivelin. Yorkshire Terrier still managed to get there on the 61 route. More to the point car drivers soon found an alternative route to Stannington just because one road was closed. If people in cars had the gumption to think it through why not the bus company managers? fnkysknky 07-04-2004, 13:38 Originally posted by slimsid2000 Why couldn't First bother to get their buses to Stannington via another route, like Loxely or Rivelin. If people in cars had the gumption to think it through why not the bus company managers? Someone would then probably start whining that the bus is on the wrong route etc. Sounds daft but I've seen it happen. slimsid2000 07-04-2004, 13:56 That's the trouble with buses - too inflexible. A bus has to please too many different people, a car only has to please one. That's why no matter how much is spent on buses or what regulatory system is adopted they will never be as good as cars. Squiggs 07-04-2004, 19:15 Sitting in the chaos that was Holme Lane and Rivelin Valley Road last night, purely from a selfish angle I am quite glad that there wasn't the added chaos of buses attempting to navigate the narrow right-turn over the bridge to get to Stannington. Doesn't that bridge have a weight restriction anyway? |
