Just in the process of buying a 3 bedroom house. It hasn't been touched since it was built so all walls a clean cream paint. My question is how much is it likely to cost to get someone to decorate 3 bedrooms and a living room all about 11 x 17. All paint no papering. I hate decorating and i'm man enough to acknowledge when i'm rubbish at something.
How long would something like this take?
Cheers
Cyclone 03-03-2006, 03:31 PM For a professional, they could probably get it done in a day.
So you might be looking at £250 rough guess including paint. (I may well have underestimated the cost of paint though).
neeeeeeeeeek 03-03-2006, 03:37 PM I think it will be lots more than that!!
And many decorators requrie you to supply the paint. Decent paint alone for a whole house is going to cost £100...
Cyclone 03-03-2006, 04:20 PM so a days work at say £20/hr and £100 of paint. £260.
Yellowrose 03-03-2006, 04:24 PM Are you including glossing as well? (woodwork etc) as that takes much longer and needs to be left between coats. That will up the cost.
1Man&hisBMW 03-03-2006, 04:33 PM my decorator charges £60 a room (everything painted). you supply the paint, and he wil not work with Poundland paintbrushes either.. :D

Wouldn't mind details of your decorater if you've a mind to share, I have a 1 bed flat to get painted. I need all gloss and emulsioning done.
Yellowrose 03-03-2006, 09:36 PM £60 a room is cheap.
sTaGeWaLkEr 03-03-2006, 09:46 PM What if your room is the size of a football pitch?

Then you will have enough money to pay for a team of decorators.

Ayman 05-03-2006, 05:49 PM Hello, I am a decorator from london and looking to move to sheffield, I am not sure that you are getting the right info here, there is no way painting a room will only cost £60 unless....
I would advice to get more than one decorator in and aske them to give you a quote, remember to ask what will they do and how long would that take them. there is no way you can give a price on a job before seeing it.

Claire18 12-03-2006, 11:52 PM Do any of these decorators mentioned do wallpapering too?
It would literally just be the papering - I have the paper and will paint over it myself.
rothschild 13-03-2006, 03:32 AM Crikey.........I have been doing the wrong job all these years! I have allways done all of our decorating (and also family members) which included stripping the walls......preparing the paintwork.......papering......emulsioning and glossing! ALL for free! My hubby knew just what a gem he got when he found me didn't he? lol. Oh......nearly forgot.....I have also laid more carpets than you can shake a stick at.....the most recent being just a couple of years ago........and I swore I would never lay another one after that! We have lived in this house for 9 years now and I decorated it from top to bottom........while working part time and bringing a family up! We are currently in the middle of a "war zone" because we are paying somebody to re-fit our kitchen and he is getting on my nerves! He can plaster whereas I can't! BUT......the bl***y stuff ends up all over the carpets as well as the kitchen walls.......and it is taking forever because he can only give us a few hours a week! Ohhhhhh....if only I had the same energy now as I had 10 years ago I would have had a go at doing it myself! Nowadays I am tempted to get somebody in to paint the newly plastered kitchen when it is finally done. The thoughts of about three coats of paint aren't sitting too well in my mind. Well......I am nearer to collecting my bus pass than I am to celebrating my 21st birthday! lol. It would seem though that there are many people willing to pay quite a lot of money for decorating........my mind would be willing to do it but the body isn't so convinced! lol Just 15 years back when money didn't seem to be so readily available I would have taken on decorating jobs in preference to the job I did then and still do now. I have noticed that people do seem to prefer to pay for so many jobs nowadays which in the past their incomes wouldn't have stretched to........which is why I allways did our decorating. Does that make sense? Ok......there is more available income nowadays for not only paying for decorating but also for other things like eating out in preference to cooking at home etc etc.
Anyhow......hope you all get your decorating sorted out to your satisfaction.
youwhatref 13-03-2006, 07:48 AM I think some of the prices quoted are cheap. For a 3 bedroom house i'd guess at around £800ish including paint. Remember a good painter will do everything from walls, ceiling, skirts, doors etc and all with two coats. I think you can be looking towards a week.
Cyclone 13-03-2006, 08:28 AM it's only 4 rooms being painted though, no dining room, kitchen or bathroom.
Also not clear whether the woodwork needs repainting or if it's just walls (and ceiling?).
banjopaul99 13-03-2006, 08:50 AM Thats why i am training to be a painter and decorator. wall paper hanging is not easy and getting the right people is difficult, the good ones are always busy, if you need further help pm me as i know a top class tradesman living in hillsbourgh and if he can fit you in he is worth every penny.
SWFC. 13-03-2006, 08:55 AM Hi, im a painter and decorator willing to come and give you a quote.PM me for details...cheers.

Well if that's the case then i'd guess at £400ish. If you're having the walls done they might as well do the rest for the clean look
Property Doc 13-03-2006, 06:09 PM We charge £80.00 per room including any gloss work. £60.00 does seem cheap but if they do a good job then fair enough.
