View Full Version : Would you ever have cosmetic surgery?

If money was no object what would you have done? or are you against this and feel you should be happy with what you have? and if so would you have reconstructive cosmetic surgery if you were scarred or disfigured following an accident?

I personally dont see the prob with it, i mean people change things like hair colour or have hair/nail extensions done all time and could argue that even wearin make-up is altering your original appearance. I personally have my hair lightened etc and wear coloured contact lenses when i go out but if i could afford surgery (and was not terrified of the pain after it!) then i'd have my nose done, my lips enlarged and my breasts enlarged (as i lost them after havin my daughter). These are the main things i dont like about myself but id prob have other things too - where do you draw the line? I personally would not have anything done like lypo as i feel it would be laziness as that is something you could do yourself by going to the gym - unless of course its for health reasons etc. these girls who have calf implants though are the best - i just dont understand it, by the time they've spent a few weeks in recovery they could have got their calf muscles by excercising, they are prob some of easiest ones to tone!

No I don't think I would:

a) Life's too short
b) Surgery is something you should only do if necessary - its a bit dangerous
c) The cost!!
d) I'm gorgeous anyway :D

Edit: Also, I'm a right wimp!

I'm saving up for it now.

I want a tummy tuck because it's not really gone back to normal after having my twins:(

Thinking about going to South Africa to have it done, it's alot cheaper and ya got georgeous weather to boot:thumbsup:

Good luck for the op

mine still hasnt gone back properly after having my daughter 2 1/2 years ago but i think maybe its down to being covered in stretch marks and the c-section probs didnt help! i dunno if theres owt they can do for stretch marks tho - would be good if there is cos im covered in em!

do you worry about goin abroad though to have the op? i mean you hear all these things where things have happened and also theres the recovery time before you should fly back. is it harder to vet out surgeons when they are abroad i mean do they have different laws etc when it comes to being qualified/liscensed to practice?

I wouldn't have it.

If they could stretch me to become a bit taller I'd maybe go for that, as being 5'3" at nearly 30's not that good IMO.

The only thing I'd go for is a breast reduction. Then again I've lived with them the way they are for all this time.

I've not had cosmetic surgery but I have had plastic surgery twice- to reconstruct previous surgery wound scars to give me better function.

If money was no object, and if the risks could be totally eliminated, and if I could work out pain relief that didn't make me sick, and if my previous history of surgery hadn't taught me that healing rarely goes to plan and wound infections create unsightly scars which ruin the effects of the surgery, THEN I might consider having surgery just to make things look better.

Until that lot comes true, then you'll have to take me as you find me.

I dont think I would ever choose to have surgery, but if my nose was damaged in an accident - I would not want them to put it back the way it is now!

Only for SERIOUS scarring caused by an accident or something similar - and even then I'd probably have to be talked in to it if the scarring were anywhere else but my face.

I think its really good that there are surgeons that can carry out all these operations, there is so much that they can do in terms of cosmetic surgery. My personal opinion is that it should be left for people who cant live their day to day lives without having surgery, for example, people who have disfigurements or are seriously depressed about the way that they look. I think people should be assessed before having surgery. You see so many people nowadays getting surgery when they dont need it, ive seen people as young as 16 going through consultations to have imperfections sorted out, which is not necessary. Its a shame that people have to feel the need to go through this to enable them to "fit in" with todays society

I'd have my teeth done. 2 accidents at work have left a bit of a gap.

Teeth here too as the veneers I had done when I was 15 have worn down a bit and one of them got slightly chipped when I was 21 so it's affecting my bite. Hopefully I'll be able to get them done after April because the NHS are changing the payment agreement to mean that whether you have 1 tooth done or a few done it still costs the same price, as opposed to a set price per tooth. My dentist is a star for telling me that. :D

I'd possibly also havelaser eye surgery but teeth are the priority.

Nope, am quite happy as I am :) Perhaps if I had an accident and was left disfigured, I'd feel the need to have surgery but as it stands I'm quite happy with myself...

There's only one scar on my body and thats a little tiny crease by my right eye where I fell and hit the side of my eye when I was little... Luckily I didnt lose an eye but had to have stitches etc and consequently have a little crease by my eye that stands out if I put makeup on it... Other than that I'm alright :D

Although in my head I am still in my twenties - unfortunately my body is in its 40's :(

I have started looking in the mirror and pulling at various bits of skin and hoisting them back to where they once was!!

Although I have had 4 kids and am still quite slim it's the ageing signs that I dislike. The wrinkles are appearing and there are signs of the Turkey neck making an appearance! :gag:

I wouldn't mind a minor face lift and wondered if anyone on here has had one?

Before any of you say I should accept my wrinkles and wear them with pride why the hell do we iron clothes then!!!

I want to grow old Disgracefully - I refuse to shop at Bon Marche and wear elasticated skirts, polyester blouses and American Tan tights (sorry Mum).

I don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb so I am not about to walk around in skirts so short you can see if Ive shaved, but older women ie Sharon Osbourne who has had surgery looks great and dresses to suit the age she looks.

People are living longer so I wouldn't mind trying to knock off a few years and it seems more and more people seem to be doing this as there are always programmes on transforming yourself and as long as you don't go over the top with silly surgerys I think it can look quite natural.

Anyone got any experience or knows anyone who has had a successful mini facelift before I have to change my user name to Owdlass!:help:

Mmmm so you thought I was in my 50's!!! I suppose cos I am 43 and my bloke as you know is 6 years younger, although he has no problem with it I do feel a little decrepid.

As for you wanting some fat injected into you - I can have some sucked out of me and donate it if you want!!:gag:

I am having a boob job when I can afford it, not having implants, just excess skin removed and an uplift and I am 21. Reason I am having this is because last year I lost over 5 1/2 stone and I am happy with my figure except the skin on my boobs is really stretchy and hasn't shrunk with the rest of me if that makes sense!! I have had a consultation @ Transform and I am looking at around £3,600 for wat I want doing.

You ought to go on one of those T.V shows and get it done for free that's if you don't mind showing your bits to everyone.

Well done on losing so much weight by the way. There is a programme on at the moment called the Bikni Body or something like that, about people who have lost loads of weight and get transformed. This week a woman has lost 11 stone in 11 months and gone down to a size 8. She had loads of skin removed from her boobs, arms, stomach, legs and bum. She had to stand on a beach in a bikini before the surgery and ask people how old she looked. She was only 32 but her body was put at a woman in her 60's.

You've got to be pretty brave to put yourself threw that.

Oh and thanks for the compliment Mainframe.

The thing is I don't have it anywhere else except my boobs, I am now a size 10 and my stomach etc is fine, the skin is still tight and flat if ya know wat I mean, still wouldn't go on TV though!!!

the problem with plastic surgery as far as i can see is that it may look great for 4-5 years, but then you have to be tweaked again (collagen production levels over the age of 25 = zero, hence the sagginess and tendency to start developing wrinkles from around that age)....and again....and again....until you start looking like joan rivers, and i guess she doesn't get cheap surgery, so if that's what one looks like after the expensive hollywood type of surgery....eeek.

spend the money on really nice clothes and haircuts and maybe some non-surgical face lifts? my mum had some beautician do some prodding and poking at her face every week for 6 weeks and the difference was amazing. It needs redoing every few weeks though.

The problem with just buying nice clothes is you have to take them off!

I must admit though cos I have recently been a bit down on myself I have spoilt myslef with a new hairdo and a few outfits and it has made me feel a bit better.

Hell yeah i would have it. No doubt about it.

Im seriously thinking about a boob reduction. Fed up of pains in shoulders and tbh if i dont have it done now, ill definatly have it done after i have had kids. Putting them right back where they belong. On my chest not my waist:hihi:

There was this woman who had lost so much weight that her boobs hung so low that she could tuck them into her pygama (probably spelt wrong) bottoms, now that's saggy! She was on the Bikini programme I have mentioned.

When men get older and they bend over and look like the back end of an elephant - would they consider having there jewels lifted back up I wonder? :suspect:

Cone on blokes - would yer, would yer?:o

I'm waiting for things like replacement arms etc to become available, that'll be much more fun. Otherwise just not worth it unless maybe you've had some sort of physical disfigurement that you want to change.
