I saw this story in the paper today.I bet the poor little mite will have a phobia of rats for life.20in very scary!
20in rat (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006090686,00.html)
mrchinnery 01-03-2006, 19:19 20" rat!
Impossible unless you count a long tail.
cgksheff 01-03-2006, 19:27 Isn't it amazing?
You wait ages for a 20" Rat and then two come along at the same time! :hihi:

sorry cgksheff,i wrote rat into search and it didn't come up.
you wouldve thought they got a picture of the rat-
must be including tail--
alchresearch 01-03-2006, 19:53 Great of The Scum to put the really relevant words like BED and THREE TIMES in bold caps to get the point across.
20cm - yes. 20 inches? Highly unlikely.
kneetrembler 01-03-2006, 19:54 i shoot the things on a farm and yes the odd one will come and try bit you.
i have seen them biting the pigs and cows as they sleep horrid things .....
i have shot a few on the farm and watched the others eating them and yes they will grow to over20in from head to tail

Ah I wouldn't be so sure, 20 inch from nose to tail is highly possible, I saw a monster rat in the suberbs of Paris last July it was a biggun.
Phanerothyme 01-03-2006, 20:12 A large norvegicus and yes, they really can reach 20 inches from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail, although mostly they reach around 15-16".
The tail shouldnt count - its like saying if I stick my hair up im 7ft tall
WhatsGood 01-03-2006, 20:26 The tail shouldnt count - its like saying if I stick my hair up im 7ft tall
:hihi:
barnie41 01-03-2006, 22:04 I'm sorry, but thats sending me to bed with a right laugh. First it gets attacked with a golf club, then they dropped a bed on it - poor little (big) bugger. And what about it being virtually an act of god? Hope the little lad was ok in the end, but I bet super rat lived to tell its thousands of kids and grandkids, and great grand kids of how it fought off three humans armed with clubs and beds.
Super rat - coming to a sewer near you.
Good night rat fans (am I the only one to remember Roland?)
hagardriley 01-03-2006, 22:18 20" rat!

I have seen them as long as that (excluding the tail) when they have been poisoned at my mates farm.
Bloody horrible things, whatever the size of them. :gag:

You'd be in the world record books with a rat with a 20" body.
A brown rat bigger than even the world's largest rat (gambian pouch rat) weighing over 3kg? Nah.
20" with the tail. The longest Norvegicus on record in the UK was 24" with the tail.

Never! A coypu maybe, but not a rat almost two foot long minus tail.
Don_Kiddick 02-03-2006, 00:50 You should read James Herberts The Rats & The Lair - scary Mary!
AtticusFinch 02-03-2006, 10:12 Isn't this a great example of the S*n telling lies again? The BBC article mentions nothing about the rat being 20 inches. If it comes down to which I trust more out of the BBC and the UK's scummiest, most vicious tabloid, that's a complete no-brainer.

poucinet 02-03-2006, 11:08 I saw a large rat as big as a small rabbit running down the street in Kiveton Park one day. Startled me and I was in the car.

Thats Asylum seekers for you.
What I’d like to know is who was the handy person with a tape measure!
tigerkrankie 26-03-2006, 11:32 My mum used to work on a pig farm when i was a kid, and there was rats there that was big lol.....But the pigs never turned there snouts up at em for sommot to eat lol....Horrible buggers they are, the rats i mean lol.....
latest news flash it was a pit bull not a rat,some\one left glass'ers at home, whew what a relief.
funkymiss 26-03-2006, 11:50 I saw a bunny hop across in front of me at uni on Friday and then a squirrel scampered along straight after it! This made my day.
Makes a change from rats
tigerkrankie 26-03-2006, 12:27 Well where i live, we have rats, foxes, bunny rabbits, squirrels and even ducks around us, have seen huge rats, but never over 20" lol, must have been a squirrel going to a fancy dress party lol.
melthebell 26-03-2006, 13:43 rats are not known to attack people mostly tbh .....some really nasty ones might
most only in self defense
normally when people see rats jumping at their necks is to actually jump over them to escape, not to bite them.
rats are scavengers and will eat dead things, they dont normally go for live things specially ones that are bigger than them.
they will nibble (my pet ones do if you let them run about on you) they will nibble crap off you or prolly dead skin but they dont actually bite

Really?! Wow, on my street the biggest chance I have of wildlife is seeing my neighbour's bulldog. Not very cute and fluffy!
Jimbob1989 26-03-2006, 15:16 :( sad story, anyone up for shooting :)
Crayfish 26-03-2006, 16:09 They were quoting the guy who was bitten when they said 20" (from nose to tail). Think I might have been inclined to say it was 2 feet long if it jumped at me in the middle of the night too!
Swan_Vesta 26-03-2006, 16:19 I imagine that 20"s is a bit of a stretch but not by much. Me and my brothers used to amuse ourselves down on the farm by harrassing the local rat population - some of the more fiesty ones had a pop at us when they were cornered and I've seen ones of the size that would give a terrier a run for it's money.
Nasty little blighters.
yeraknow 26-03-2006, 16:46 Thats Asylum seekers for you.
brilliant mate :hihi:
