I have just received news from Mr Crossley-Holland's department that my son will be attending Wisewood Secondary in September.

Whats it like? Does anyone have any children there or have any experience of the school. I did look at their ofsted report but seeing as its 6 years old it isn't really a reliable indicator.

Ta very much :D

Yep got confirmation this morning that my son has his place in this school.

I think it's a great school, I actually moved to this area so he had a better chance of getting in!

Wouldn't dare send them to Myers Grove:gag:

Thanks for that, hey they may even end up in the same class :hihi:

I know he will be thrilled to bits as all his friends have indicated that's where they will be going and Im really pleased because it isn't his catchment school either it was 'chaucer'. Now how do we get the uniforms?

It will tell you how they performed on the school prospectus, & results are on the councils web site. The school recieved a large lump of Planning gain from the middlewood estate, along with marcliffe j&i.

Hi Fox,

I used to live on Southey Green so he would have gone to Parkwood High.

I think they will send you an order form for the uniforms.

The only thing with this school is uniforms are quite dear.
You have to buy their PE kit and everything, cause it all has to have the logo on.

They can wear Jeans but they have to be black and cannot be faded in the slightest.

Hope this helps:thumbsup:

Most schools that have uniform policy apply the pe kit thing, it's so johny flashpants doesn't go to school in £50.00 football/designer sports gear!

I understand that totally but it also means that parents with less amount of money cant go out and buy cheaper clothing in the same colours.

hey Fox i left Wisewood in 2003, it is a nice school, i wanted to go there, prefered that to Bradfield and Myres!!!

Although some of the teachers are horrible, i would advise your kids to stay away from Miss Harlow(Textiles) she is one evil woman! lol :P

I went to wisewood school i left in 2002! I know it might have change since i was there but all the staff, teachers and majority of pupils were great!

Apart from the fact i hated school at the time (but which kids dont) I only have good memories of my 5 years at wisewood!
Your children will be fine and are lucky to have got a place here!

hiya, im in y11 at wisewood, and i think it is one of the better schools around here. We've just last friday been inspected again by the Ofstead inspectors so you should be seeing a update soon and McKinley said we did a good job. Unfortunatly they have decided to change the uniform for the worse with black trousers and a school p.e kit (good for me i dont have to buy 1:D ). i think most of the teachers can be ok but like everywhere theres some you just can't like!!!
And i actually do textiles with Miss Harlow and yeah she can be strict and make you do loads of work but at the end of the day no1 in our class is predicted less than a 'B' so it isnt that bad!!!! :)

I left Wisewood in 2000 and it was a really good school then. One of my cousins still goes there and it seems to have got much more facilities now than when I was there so it seems to still be a good school.
They get good GCSE results published every year so I think your son should be fine, good luck.

My daughter left Wisewood last year and as far as I am concerned it is a good school. Only had one real problem with a teacher and that was an I.T teacher. He's now left thankfully as he made a major mess up with what they were taught and it affected the exam results for some kids. (this was looked into)

In response to Deelightful3, I would keep thinking about Bradfield School if I were you. Most of the comments here are from people who have attended Wisewood and hate Bradfield (the usual school grudge thing) Comparing the 2 schools, the league tables speak for themselves. At the recent parents evening for new pupils, Bradfield put on great presentation which involved current students, on speaking to other parents that didn't fall into the catchment area for Bradfield and went to the Wisewood open evening, there was no one there to greet them and they were left to wander around alone with no one on hand to offer advice, leaving them very worried about their childrens future. Thankfully I got my son into the school of my choice, which is Bradfield, and I hope he doesn't have a repeat of last year when some idiots from Wisewood stoned the school bus, breaking the windows, leaving many 11 year olds terrified, as if starting a new school wasn't enough to worry about.

Excuse me!! At the begining of your post you said not to listen to our views on Bradfield school because they would be biased but then follow on to call wisewood school kids idiots!!

I think you might find you heard one side of that story, and that both schools are as bad as each other when it comes to things like that!

There isnt any real grudges between the schools! Its all talk, yeah we used to stick rods up at Bradfiels school bus as it drove passed us but in reality we were best mates with several of the pupils! In our year a load of us Wisewood pupils met up with a load of Bradfielders every weekend and some of my best mates went there. My boyfriend of 5 and a half years was in same year as me but at Bradfield so?

Good luck deciding which school you send your son to x

And Excuse Me!! I said SOME idiots from Wisewood School, I didn't say they all were idiots. In my eyes anyone that throws stones/rocks at a school bus IS an idiot.

My son will definately be attending Wisewood, and I can assure you he is not of the stone throwing brigade. Lets all be friends. :D

I always quite liked Mrs Harlow! She was strict, but fair.

It's getting on for more than a few years since I was at Wisewood. Most of the teachers were great, but there were more than a few pupils there who ruined the whole experience. They were very disruptive in class and bullied anyone who actually wanted to learn something. Hopefully the kids have changed!
