View Full Version : Is anyone else suffering with Flu?
is any body else in the same situation as me suffering really bad with a cold i have ha dit 5 days now i just don't seem to be getting any better not only that am 26 weeks pregnant and got a little boy at 20 mths so ya can imagine how am feeling absolutely shattered
Ousetunes 01-03-2006, 09:41 I've had it for over two weeks now and it's really laid me low.
I'm only just beginning to rid myself of it. Having said that, I haven't been to the doctors and reckon some antibiotics might have shifted it sooner.
It's the worst case of 'flu I've ever had. Either that or it's a sign I'm getting old!
AlquarUK 01-03-2006, 09:47 Yeah I have got it too, just had 2 days off work, chest still tight etc (asthematic). Not taken any medication except for a couple of paracetemol on the first day, let nature take its course and your body will be stonger for it.
Antibiotics - no thanks!
Sounds like you've had a miserable time :(
Sorry but had to say antibiotics will NOT shift 'flu any sooner. 'Flu is caused by a virus, antibiotics treat bacterial infections. This was a common misconception which lead to the overprescription of antibiotics, which has in part lead to the huge problems we have with antibiotic resistant infections today (e.g. MRSA). If you have 'flu please don't ask your doctor for antibiotics they shouldn't presribe them.
andywatton 01-03-2006, 10:20 I think this flu has been going round lots of people recently. I'm just getting rid of it now and had to have 2 days off work I was that bad.
matt1889 01-03-2006, 10:23 I got it last Wednesday, I felt shocking and had to have Thurs / Fri off work cos of it, I felt shocking all through the weekend as well but yesterday I woke up and felt better!
pennypie 01-03-2006, 11:12 Just wondering - have you actually got the flu, or have you got a cold as the two are COMPLETELY different. If you have flu, you are in bed for a week or more, and if there was a £100 note on the floor you wouldn't be able to move to reach it you would be that bad. If you are off for just two days (and are able to sit typing on a computer) you have probably got a cold.
Sorry if I sound completely unsympathetic but I get really annoyed with people who say they have flu when it is a cold - my husband does it and I have sympathy for him when he gets a cold, but the second he says he has flu all my sympathy disappears.
muddycoffee 01-03-2006, 11:24 I have just had a bit of a cold, where I had tired limbs, snotty, feeling a bit sick from time to time, slept badly and was dizzy and exhausted. It started about friday last week with a dry throat, but I am felling like I am over it now [wednesday]. It was not bad enough to have any time off work but I certainly didn't want to do anything in the evening.
It was more than just a cold but not as bad as flu.
There isn't really a name in my vocabulary for this condition, can I suggest yucky ?
nuromantic 01-03-2006, 11:29 if there was a £100 note on the floor you wouldn't be able to move to reach it
I certainly wouldn't move to reach it. Cos it doesn't exist !
.
I went to the Docs this morning to the 3 minute surgery, I just couldnt get in ---- the place was full of chickens!!!!
I had it for a full two weeks a while back. I couldn't get out of bed for about four days and just felt utterly exhausted. Then it went on my chest and I lost my voice. The doc said it was 'a flu-type virus' but put me on antibiotics as it had damaged my throat. I have to say the penicillin worked wonders on me, so the whole throat thing must have been a secondary bacterial infection. :gag:

They do actually.
Yellowrose 01-03-2006, 20:26 We had the flu and the stomach bug at the same time. Four weeks later we are still fighting its after effects. I am tired and weak and keep getting earache. The grandson still has a dry cough. My daughter and I are still clearing our nose of catarrh in a morning, and our little baby has difficulty feeding because of blocked nose.
None of us have had antibiotics, but the baby had eyedrops. Both kids saw the doc after 2 weeks, the baby has been 3 times cos she is so small. We are fed up of it. I has got me really down.
mistyraven 01-03-2006, 20:51 I am just getting over gastric flu. started on tuesday still got pain feel like a zombie
Im just recovering from flu. I started to feel a bit run-down on Wednesday night and on Thursday I couldnt get out of bed.I literally stayed in my pj's until Monday when I finally felt able to get out of bed!
Its true that if you've got flu rather than a cold, you really havent got the energy to lift a finger. If Robbie Williams walked naked into my bedroom I wouldnt have been able to do a thing!!!
I have asthma and this is the first year in about 10 that I have missed my flu jab, never again!

Me too Sam, I didnt bother either. Perhaps I should have done, but it may not be the same virus as in the vaccine.

Well Im definately having mine next year! I cant believe how bad Ive felt with it, I lost almost 5lbs aswell.Bloomin nasty stuff!
Apart from Mathom I'm struggling to see anyone here who's talking about flu - just heavy colds.
Honestly!
You'll know when you REALLY get it. In the meantime take a Lemsip. ;)

At least you had the opportunity (here I go with my gripe again!). My surgery didn't have enough, only ran one clinic before running out, and still say they haven't got any

What is influenza?
Influenza is a viral disease that usually strikes between October and May. It lasts from three to five days (Netdoctor.co.uk)
My girlfriend's laid low at the moment, she,s had a fever, headache and saw muscles for the last three days.

Im still off work you moron. You dont know me so dont tell me whether or not I have or havent got an illness,You can ask the emergency doctor if you like as when she came round she seemed to think different to you.
Maybe you should take a look on the NHS Direct website Tony as your 'medical training' seems to be a little out of date. Heres a snippet of their info which suggests that after a week, maybe I am getting better slightly....shock horror!
''For most people symptoms peak after 2-3 days, and they begin to feel much better with-in 5-8 days, although a cough and general tiredness may last for 2- 3 weeks.'' [nhs direct]
