He smelled like the hadn't taken a bath since John major was in power. mgdl 28-02-2006, 15:02 are people aware they smell ? some smell just as bad as the unwashed.the people who use 10 times the amount of perfume/aftershave etc :gag: Yeah have to admit I've walked past someone who smelt like they'd taken a bath in cheap perfume and it was awful - felt like my throat was going to close. I can't believe that the people who do that (usually middle-aged women, it must be said) don't realise how much it reeks! Hecate 28-02-2006, 15:16 They're perma-tanned women (and some men), often caked in make-up (though usually this isn't the men) and they're on Central and Midland Mainline trains between 6 and 8 am most mornings. They usually reek of Poison/Lynx with added hints of cigarette smoke. Lucretia_73 28-02-2006, 16:17 It never ceases to amaze me how so many people can walk around reeking of god knows what and seem entirely oblivious. Maybe they know but don't care. Or they take pleasure on subjecting others to the stench of their unwashed clothes and smelly pits. I have a really sensitive nose and I can smell something nasty from quite a distance - cigarette smoke and body odour being the main culprits. I wonder if people just get so used to the smell they don't notice it anymore, like people don't notice their own house smell - everyone's house smells of something and when you visit people you can smell it but people living there can't unless they've been out of the house for a while. As people can't get away from themselves I guess they just get used to the smell. I'm completely paranoid though and I'm really conscious of the way I smell. I can't wear strong perfumes as they give me a headache and I'm forever checking the BO meter and carry around those Sure wipes just in case! River 28-02-2006, 16:25 Ah that special Lynx 'n' baccy aroma! At this time of year it's often got a wonderful 'damp' edge to it too. They're banning smoking as it's anti-social - what about the countless millions of Lynx particles (also carcinogenic) trailed around by each and every user? Why share such hideous, unsubtle stenches? Also, how come grown men use Lynx? Surely once the age of fifteen/sixteen is reached, a more sophisticated approach is desired? Or are Lynx users really as sexually irresistable as the adverts suggest? Hmmmm.... They usually reek of Poison/Lynx with added hints of cigarette smoke. That sounds like at least half the people in my building. I hate getting in a lift with people with too much scent on, it makes me choke more than anything apart from bad breath, which I find I can't tolerate. You should never be able to smell your own perfume/after shave, apparently; if you can, you're wearing too much. I've got a really good sense of smell and I always detect bad niffs from a mile off. But I think as long as your clothes are washed, you have a bath and wash your hair every day and keep your teeth nice and clean then there's no need to get paranoid. I often go without deodorant when not at work as I think it cannot possibly be good for you, it only turns into BO if you have bacteria on your skin. Not a lot of people realise they have bad breath but the worst culprits are too much coffee, not enough fresh water and eating too much protein and not enough carbs. The stench is literally that of kidneys rotting away. :gag: Still, I wouldn't dare say anything to anyone in case they had some dreadful personal problem they were mortified about. EdnaKrabappe 28-02-2006, 19:34 Four smells I don't like: 1.Kourous aftershave - it makes me gip! I used to work with a lovely bloke who carried it in his top pocket like a hip flask type arrangement, we worked in a toy shop of all things and you'd catch him standing over Teddy Ruxpin putting yet more on! Eurgh! 2. The smell of dirty washing that's not dried properly. That slight burnt smell and the eternal dilemma of the person without a garden or a dryer. It's awful and I confess i've done it but spent all day then wanting to go home and change. 3. Tuna breath. Used to work with someone who stood really close when she spoke to you, again a lovely lady but she ate tuna everyday for lunch and her breath reaked of it. 4. Smoke the day after the night before. As a non smoker I hate getting up with a hangover and smelling stale smoke so i often get a shower when i get in. It's such a habit now I can do it even when i'm completely inebriated even if my clothes are strewn half way through the house! They usually reek of Poison/Lynx with added hints of cigarette smoke. Strong perfume/aftershave is terrible. I'm sensitive to the stuff - I'm sometimes on that Midland Mainline train and sometimes I have to change seats because someone's sat near me having seemingly bathed in the noxious stuff. One time, I kid you not, a woman sat next to me and proceeded to SPRAY herself with the stuff, right there on the train! :gag: It makes me ill and I know I'm not the only one - and apparently in the US, many people are becoming allergic to fragrances and so perfume-free workplaces are quite common - it's seen as a health and safety matter as it can make people so ill. We have a long way to go here though - one time I was having tests done in hospital and I reacted to the nurse's strong perfume - and that was in a clinic for people with allergies!
