Hi,

My Asian friend who stays in London suggested to me to try out eyebrow threading rather than waxing.

I hear that it is not that painful and the shape also comes out to be good.

I was wondering if anyone can help me find a salon which provides eyebrow threading near city centre in Sheffield.

Thanks in advance.

What do they do? I've never heard of it before?

Is it that where they use cotton thread?

Wouldn't want it doing myself, unless they'd had a good few years under their belt:suspect:

I think instead of using tweezers, it uses thread to shape the eyebrows and its much faster than tweezers.

Here's what I found on the internet about threading.

Threading is a hair removal technique that uses a cotton thread. The 100% cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hairs in the thread, which are then lifted out from the follicle. It is said to be more precise than waxing.

A friend of mine has it done and it's good but makes her eyes water.
The wife of the owner of the papershop on Wostenholme Road does it. I'm under the impressions he's open to do it for anyone but charges of course.

Ive had this threading method on my eyebrows done a few years ago and I must say it gave excellent results much better then waxing plus it never left you looking like you had been smacked in the head, the other best thing about threading was it didnt leave those little black dots which correct me if Im wrong is the hair folicle that you usually get left with after waxing, it was fast as well, as for the pain it wasnt that bad, just slight pinching.

I havent been able to find another asian beautician since to repeat this method so I have to resort to plucking my own.

its a process of using thread to shape eyebrows to a defined shape.

more precise than wax or plucking

quicker and a lot less painfull

But with threading, do you have to grow the hairs, like you do with waxing?

I saw a lady having this done once at a barbers/hairdressers in town by a turkish looking man (didn't know what it was called though at the time). It was bout 6 months ago at that barbers at the top of the moor opposite Debenhams, can't remember what the shop is called sorry.....

There is a similar thread today in Sheffield Discussion with some more contacts for threading. I've used Illusions in Attercliffe and found her very good if a little overenthusiastic (maybe I should have specified how neat I wanted my eyebrows to be. I don't like to look too well preened ;)

13-08-2008, 14:39
Erm, how do I explain. It is where someone has a piece of cotton and twists it around the hairs you don't want, a bit like waxing but a lot more acurate and can get smaller hairs. Also doesn't hurt the skin like waxing does. I used to have an Asian lady do it for me but I've lost touch. Hope this explains Moonbird :D

Try the "Brow Lounge" in Debenhams Meadowhall, Ive had a taster from one of the girls and they are excellent!! It opens at the end of August, or "Benito Brow Bar" (also in Meadowhall and opening in September 2008 I think).

They take out all the ingrown hair too if done correctly.

Hey...
Threading is actually not a painful procedure if the skin is held taut and done by a killed specialist. But then everyone has a different pain threshold.Usually during or right before ones period is the time when it may hurt but otherwise threading is one of the safest, long lasting, chemical free and relatively painless amongst other temporary hair removal procedures. Threading is performed by by a technician by wrapping a cotton thread around her fingers to catch a significant amount of hair by the thread.I would suggest that if one is a bit scared with the thought of it is to ask the technician to try it on your hand.

Shezza, the beautician did a fantastic job on mine and I'll be returning soon.

She also charges £1.50 for upper lip and £5 for full face which quite frankly sound about as appealing as a Brazilian (there's some hair I can live with!)

The haircuts look pretty reasonable in price too.

I have been having my eyebrows done at Illusionz for 5 years and have never had the issues you mention!!! I've always found Vinisha listens to my input and is brilliantly down to earth! I obviously am a regular customer at Vinisha's and have felt the need to respond to your unreasonable comment as I have years of experience dealing with her and seeing her deal with her customers. When any one has raised any objections or concerns over any treatments she has addressed them directly. I have been looking through your posts and noticed that you have only been commenting on threads associated with health/beauty, and are a very new user. I am also well aware that many people come on forums to slander other people's businesses. Not that I'm saying you are. Also previous comments by others who get their eyebrows done by Vinisha and are happy with them kind of speak for themselves!

She does show you a mirror at the end but she cant correct over threaded eyebrows. You dont need to get all defensive because all im doing is airing my opinion as i have right to my own opinions! And like i have said in the previous post i havent joined this forum to debate or argue you with anyone!

Nobodys getting defensive,if someone gives you a mirror after to check for yourself than they are doing that for you to check all is well so can't really do a rush job and get away with it.
By over threaded eyebrows i take it you mean thinner than you wanted them, if this is the case i don't think you can say they have been rushed or done with lack of concentration and therefore slag a person off.
