Hi gang, Hoping someone can help me... :help:

I'm leaving Edinburgh in a few weeks for a new job in London  but there are lots of lovely Scots who I'll be sad to leave behind. :(

I want to give them all a little pressie when I go, and was racking my brains to think of something suitable  . I wanted it to be quirky and from Sheffield to remind them of me!

Then I was struck by a fab idea  - I'll give them each a litle bottle of Hendersons.

Unfortunately this is proving easier said than done. From what I can gather on the hendersons website you can only buy huge £10 bottles, and I'm after some of the little bottles of the stuff, I think they're about 99p each? Then I tried madeinsheffield.com but they only seem to sell the merchandise. I can buy Hendersons aprons and recipe books, but no relish! :loopy:

Has anyone got any other suggestions on how I can get my hands on it? I want about a dozen little bottles.

Thanks for that Sheffchick, but as you see, I live in EDINBURGH! They only sell it in Sheffield supermarkets. Hence my problem.

When I lived down south for a while my local asda sold it, so it's not just in Sheffield.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help but please stop recommending supermarkets!

I live in EDINBURGH. As in Edinburgh, Scotland. That's nearly 400 miles from Sheffield, and therefore the supermarkets up here don't stock Hendersons.

PS - Thanks DaBouncer, but I've already checked the links to the supermarkets on the Henderson's website, and it hasn't made it this far up North I'm afriad. It has travelled as far up as Leeds and Harrogate, but that's about it. Up here there's more call for haggis and turnips!

The hendersons site http://www.hendersonsrelish.com/content/relish.htm says you can get it in Glasgae!

Just to add to this, I've seen it for sale in Reading and Letchworth and a mate of mine reckons he's bought in in Towyn in Wales.

I took my Mum 10 bottles over to her at Christmas time as she lives in Lytham and I've not seen it over there. That should last her a while.

If you have any problems getting some I am sure some generous Sheffield Forum member can receive your cash via Paypal and post you a load up.

Beat me to it - you need a friendly SF member to buy some and post it up for you, it probably won't be cheap to send that many bottles though :(

I reckon around £13 via Parcel Force 48 hour delivery, but that's just a guess.

Thanks Cath, but I don't live in Glasgow, I live in Edinburgh!

Perhaps on my origional post I was factually incorrect by stating that you can only get it in Sheffield, but my problem remains that I can't buy seem to find a place to buy it in Edinburgh. I just wanted some help with that!

Was hoping someone might be able to come up with some random obscure website or something I could buy it from. Or if someone could post me some, I'd be really really grateful xxx

Supermarkets usually get them in little cardboard crates of twelve. If you can get someone to get you one of those, and then pack it into a box with padding you should be ok.

Parcels2go may be a better alternative to Parcelforce. They are cheaper and use DHL as their carrier.

Why not just contact Hendersons, explain your predicament and see if they will send you a box of a dozen bottles?

Wouldn't it just be easier and quicker to have a trip to Glasgow?

Wouldn't it just be easier and quicker to have a trip to Glasgow?

Glasgow is 80 miles away from Edinburgh!

That's like suggesting you drive from Sheffield to Leicester to pick up a few bottles of sauce! £25 on petrol and a good few hours out of my day at a time when I'm frantically packing to move house, so it definitely wouldn't be quicker and easier to have a trip to Glasgow! Not to mention being about to track down the particular supermarket that sells it and hope they've got it in stock!

It's okay anyway, a friend of mine who lives in Sheffield has offered to get me some, and failing that I'll do what somebody on here (thank you to that person) suggested and contact Hendersons directly.

good grief - how long have ye been in auld reekie? It's but 44 miles frae glesca!

There is a hendersons in edinburgh - but it's a veggie restaurant and posh wine bar, innit.

Phone hendersons in sheffield, I'm sure they will tell you if there's a bottle in edinburgh.

It's a nice thought for a gift.

You could always ask Tesco if they'd get you in a crate as a one off.

They are normally happy to please and I know our local Tesco stocks it, so maybe they'd send a crate from store to store for you to help you out?

If you want Henderson's you'd better be quick. There's a nasty rumour going round that the business is closing.

Is this true or is it just an urban myth?

I suspect it's a myth.

I remember years back it was meant to be closing then everyone went out to buy loads of it only to find it not closing (or my gran did anyway :D ).

I doubt they're closing.

I can confirm that not all Morrisons stores stock it, my Mum uses the one in Blackpool sometimes and as I mentioned in an earlier post I had to take her a load over at the end of last year due to her not being able to get hold of it.

Won't one of them firms that supply the expat community have the stuff in stock? After all, Scotland is 'abroad' :-)

However, as others have said, I'd contact Hendersons directly. I'm sure they'd be only too happy to send you a box.

You can buy it online from theWorkshop shop (Sheffield company).

£4.99 a litre, but it's in plastic bottles for postage purposes which aren't as nice. Sorry.
