Just a heads up for S26 residents to keep an eye on their property today (02/02/12)

2 men with a decidely dodgy looking Ford Transit pick-up (one mid-30s, one slightly older).

I have the registration. If anyone has had anything go missing, PM me and I'll give it to you.

Just to appease some of the idiots, I'm not saying that it will have been these two if anything does go missing however if they've done nothing wrong then they won't mind if the police want to eliminate them from the enquiries.

There are at least half a dozen of these operating in S26. On my working from home days, I see at least one most days.

I've reported the two I've spotted taking things to the police via the number on the neighbourhood watch signs. There doesn't seem to be a lot they can do unless they catch them on their rounds and stop them with property on board, and then they need a complaint actually from the owner of the property.

You never see one driving round empty...

Ive just moved from S26 and they were always round. 1 particular always shouting the 'any old iron' early sunday mornings.. but then, on some occassions even putting a great big illuminous sign on an unwanted radiator didnt get them to take it..
never had a problem with them. its bad if they're going down peoples gardens

Do they need a licence to operate?

Do the scrap dealers/yards need a licence to operate? If so, who are they granted by?

Why can't we have a rule, no passport shown and number taken, along with identifiable description of items, then no money passes hands?

They were around our way on Monday (S6) when I confronted the bloke he ran off quicker than the lightening Bolt, white unmarked van. He seemed to enjoy poking around at the bottom of our gardens... one point to note he was fugly and would've been more so had he tried to steal something. From experience the Police are no good, they take ages to respond. Maybe he had been caught before hence :hihi:

Save you gas call the scrap yard. If they don't want it put it out for the trash. Strip the wood off they do not buy wood,

Ford Transit "P57LKY" doing the rounds in S26/Kiveton Park today. Rooted through the skip across the road for about five minutes.
