http://www.kwiksave.co.uk/docs/Press%20Release.pdf (which is embargoed until tonight at midnight apparently) says they're under new management, and there will be no redundancies :)

I went to the Hillsborough branch this morning and they had the shutters half way down with a member of staff stood there and just a sign on the shutter saying it was closed.I felt sorry for some of the old people that were turning up for their bits of shopping, only to find it shut.

owdlad, is there no depth you will explore to play the field with these ladies?

2 weeks ago it was Netto, the Goddess of Shopping who received the benefit of your affection.

Last week it was Lidl, another Spirit of the distant Ether.

Now it's Quick Save......the saviour of the Elders of our society.....

Who next for the object of your affection?..:hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

The same thing has happened at Killamarsh. What a strange carry on.

Somerfield has sold Kwik Save...existing large profitable stores are being converted over to Somerfield, the rest are going to continue trading as Kwik Save under new Management (headed by the Chief Exec of Peacocks).

Best thing for Kwik Save...Somerfield have totally missed the plot in managing those stores - had no idea! A new Management team who actually want to make the stores work will do the Kwik Save brand wonders but it will be totally separate from Somerfield.

Most field and support centre staff have been put on 90 days notice periods and 500 jobs will be going but obviously there will be a lot of staff transferred to the new Kwik Save.

Have just been in kwik save in hillsboro only to find signs everywhere saying closing down. Apperently the store will cease trading on 31st march and all staff been made redundant. Lots of items being reduced with upto 50% off, some real bargains to be had. Anybody know why they are closing the staff seemed abit vague and what will be in it's place.

The Kwik Save brand has been sold by Somerfield to a new company, but Hillsborough isn't on the list of stores that have been sold.

Kwik save has been subject to a management buy out, they said on the news this morning that all stores and staff would be safe ?

Bit of a quick U turn there then :suspect:

Let's hope that that merchant banker called John Dennis from Barnsley gets his comeupance, and Kwik Slave pull the rug out from under his sordid back stabbing feet.

I went in today and was chatting to a member of staff. Apparently Netto have put in bids for 29 of the Kwik Save shops and been succesfull in getting 20. The Hillsborough one is one they have bid for but as of today, haven't got (yet). The staff are being treated Pretty badly too. If they get a new job between now and 30th March (when it closes) they don't get any redundancy and for every day they are off sick from now until it shuts, they lose 10% of their redundancy money. That stinks.

Having said that, I did get a half price CD player today!!! :D

So are Peacocks extending their current shop into Kwik Save or moving premises?

We need a good local supermarket. Co-op is too expensive and Morrisons is too far to just pop in for a loaf of bread.

It's already shut mate, well they had the shutters down when I was in the Precinct on Monday.

Already a thread about this. Kwik save been bought out and will close on 31st march.

So what do people want to see in its place? Hopefully another supermarket of some sort will move in there otherwise it will be another nail in the coffin of Hillsborough.

I must say personally I think a little Sainsbury's would be good because there isn't one anywhere in the North of the city, unless you count Jackson's by the Star and Garter on St Philip's Road, which is now a sort of Sainsbury's.

Bilge
03-03-2006, 14:01
I can't see Sainsbury's opening in there - they would want long opening hours and the centre isn't open at night.

Not sure what sort of operator would want the site. The whole centre is pretty grim, dark and uninspiring and a passer-by doesn't know what shops are in there without actually entering. It needs a refurb.

So a chain bookstore for example, or other shops that people might like to see, probably wouldn't want that location. So maybe it'll become a 'Bright House' or similar.

I'd like to see Waitrose opening in the old Kwiksave store but I suspect it will more than likely be a Netto or Aldi.

Hillsborough's not posh enough for Waitrose mate, and it won't be a Netto or an Aldi cos of the Netto in Catchbar Lane and there's also the Aldi on Halifax Road.

Bright House has already opened in Morrisons doubt they would open 2 stores that close together!

Correct - Aldi could do well in the Kwik-Save location.

I've heard a whisper that the rates in Hillsborough are too much for the cheaper end of supermarkets, and the better ones won't really be bothered, I shouldn't imagine.

Aldi, Lidl.. Same difference mate, they're both pretty much the same kind of shop.

ALdi, Lidl and Netto all Suck. Would be nice to see something like a Samll Sainsbury's there. Kwik Save had everything going for them there, easy access for the old people and to the carpark. Easy to navigate aisles and a great range of different foods and brands. My Dad looked distraught when I told him Kwik Save was closing down....

There was a residents group meeting on Wednesday, when this was mentioned, it appears that the precinct has changed hands, and been taken over by a company called either Axa or Axia, didn't get the spelling.

Chloe, Kwik Slave have been owned by Scummerfield for around six or seven years, they are in the process of selling off some of their stores.

By the way did you hear that Maggie Thatcher wasn't still the PM?

The kwiksave at Firth Park is going back to Sommerfields apparantly, so maybe the one at Hillsborough will follow suit.

No I didn't know that owdlad. My boyfriend is manager of Somerfield and I heard him speaking about this recently that's all. Sorry my information wasn't up to scratch, but we're not all perfect

If you're looking to play the field owdlad, and plan to abandon your beloved Netto for another pile-'em-high flog-'em-cheap, you could always try Aldi...

English Glory
12-05-2006, 20:27
Have never been able to eat anything from Netto... even if it's branded stuff.

Going back to school days and having to hide the putrid Netto beans behind branded stuff when mates came round for fear of being ridiculed because of it. Plus Bensons crisps which smell, when opened, like a recently released Chinese takeaway-inspired trump. Plus the smell of their plastic bags which smell like a recently opened, still lubricated, condom sachet.

Still retch at the smell of Netto baked beans, my first releationship in year 7 had to be ended because of, in home economics, a tin of Netto beans was brought out and couldn't get away from the smell - even going to the cinema the stench of Netto beans seemed to stick to her.

Kiwk save, however, for some reason don't inspire the same hatred. Nor do Aldi or Lidl.

You do know that Quid shops tend to be highly frequented by Chavs right?!

And no, I do not go to Quid shops, so don't even start... You all KNOW who I'm referring to here.
