Does anyone know what the physical fitness requirements would be to become a volunteer Police officer?
As many of you know I'm physically disabled, and suffer from Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism.
Would this be a barrier to me possibly being a voluntary Copper? It's something I've always fancied doing having gotten an interest in Police work from 20 years of watching The Bill on the telly, but I'm more inclined to do it voluntary even though I know as a volunteer you can't nick people.
So anyone able to help?
Have a look on this site Rich, it may be of some use to you.

on a serious note, I think I remember you can ring the station at West bar/Snig hill and there is a (press 1 for donoughts) kind of automated thing, you can listen to their job vacancies, and they have alot of different ones, office work etc, and they have to be equal opportunities.
good luck :)
Thanks.
Even if I can't be a volunteer Bobby "on the beat" I'd still be happy in an office based job, where I can use my super cool IT skills :D

Jeez, have you recently suffered a blow to the head or something?
I think that they would be the same as for a regular police officer, which are listed here: http://www.southyorks.police.uk/careers/regulars/fitnesstest.php
I do think that, unfortunatly, your disability might mean you couldn't become a police officer.
as a volunteer you can't nick people.
That's not correct - a Special Constable is a police officer and has the same powers as a regular police officer when on duty.
Many forces have just (shock, horror) done away with any form of physical fitness test, along with the written english and maths test for Special Constables. However, you would have to declare any physical disability on your application form, and, if it got that far the medical declaration. I'm fairly certain that unfortunately this would preclude you from the job as you have to be able undertake all the same duties as a regular police officer. I also don't believe they actually offer any volunteer 'desk' positions.
