It is only a short drive. emma2686 27-02-2006, 15:06 hey, if you're into sport you should go see a Blue Jays game (baseball) if you have someone explain the rules to you its great fun (i got hooked on it when i was there last summer) going up the CN tower is expensive but the view is amazing. there is also an open topped bus that you can buy a ticket for, it goes all around the city taking in the main sites and you hop and off whenever you want. also if want to make a bit of effort to get out of the city, you should definately go see niagara falls, it honestly is astounding and if you're up for a laugh go further downstream to niagara on the lake and take a trip on the whirlpool jet, its a boat that goes up the rapids and its the best hour i spent over there, (although you will get tonnes of water chucked over your head so if you have a bad back or neck maybe its not such a good idea) and if you're brave enough make sure you sit in the third or fourth row where you get drowned the most - also make sure you take a towel and a change of clothes. hope this gives you some ideas but even if you dont fancy any of this i can guarantee you'll have a great time, the people are among the friendliest i've ever met and want to chat to you all day, especially when they find out you have an english accent. happy holidays x commuter 27-02-2006, 15:22 try the Queen Mother cafe for a great meal, I would recommend booking. I went on the strength of the write up on veggie burgers in the rough guide to T.to, they had stopped making them 2 years before but the chef pulled out all stops and made the best burger I've ever had. There's also a great restaurant called Canoe on the 50 something floor of an office block. We had a great day out when we went dog sledding for the day (bbq in the snow and snow shoeing - tennis raquet things - later). if you go to Niagra try and raise the cash to do the helicoptor ride over the falls crookeschap 28-02-2006, 03:09 TO........ Niagara Falls - absolutely Also Niagara on the Lake - quaint little town - and to get there you can try some ice wine from the wineries on the way. CN Tower (and dome) - expensive - but worth it to stand on the glass on the viewing platform! Boat tour - of the little islands - good view of the city Downtown - the entertainment district is a good night out - all sorts of different places and all good atmosphere. Hockey Hall of Fame - for the glass ceiling! Casa Loma - strange house - worth the trip out of down town to see though If I can remember some of the bars I frequented i'll add more later.... MissGobby 28-02-2006, 10:14 a friend at work is from there(her family live there) and she is going back there in april/may/june (i think) to get married, she is also from Toronto, u could go and see her wedding lol :hihi: flyer 01-03-2006, 02:40 Usual for some top shows to be running, also Woodbine hosts some of the finest harness horse races on this continent.although Toronto is a fairly "safe" city be a little aware of your surrounding.I hate driving anywhere near there as the driving is a bit of a mad house. The Tube like Londons is very good & hard to get lost livestrong 01-03-2006, 11:14 CN tower - make sure you go up it though as the views are fantastic. The ice hockey museum is also worth a visit and see and ice hockey game if you get the chance. There is a shoe museum (Boca i think) if that takes your fancy. The art museum is also worth seeing there is a stack of Henry Moore's work there. The skydome (Blue Jays stadium) - when a game is on. Downtown - just to wander about some of the skyscrapers look great. Eaton Centre - for shopping but there are lots of other great malls too. Science Centre - a full day out and well worth the visit no matter how old you are. Queen Street & Queen Street West - Cafe's, Boutiques, Funky shops this road has everything and more. Kensington Market (I think it is called that but its an antique market that is well worth a visit) I would also suggest hiring a bike and riding down the shore line towards the beach. I did it on roller blades and it was great fun. Casa Loma isn't really worth a visit in my opinion... it is just a house an ecentric built for himself and it is nothing special really and is quite a hike. There is also a big theme park if that takes your fancy The one thing i would advise though is to walk about as much as possible... there is loads to see that you miss if you just visit that standard tourist places. Lib1 01-03-2006, 13:28 Ta people- All the advice is much appreciated. The hotel that I've got in mind is actually attached to the Eaton Cenre, so I should be right in the heart of downtown. Can't wait! |
