I've just got a new camera that can take either CF cards or IBM Microdrives. I want min 1Mb, but what are the pro's and cons of either?

Microdrives chew batteries because they have a rotating drive.

Compact Flash cards now go up to ?Gb so get one of those.

WOW :wow: have you seen the price? $999. I can get a 1Mb Microdrive for about £100 with a PCMCIA adaptor, but I can't see a 1Mb CF card for less than £150. :(

Cheapest 1Gb CF I have found is this Clicky (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=51192)

I presume you do want 1Gb rather than 1Mb?

apparently the hard disk in the new mini ipods have standard CF connections, so if you want a cheap 4Gb drive for £200 (or whatever they will cost), if can bear to take one apart!

:D yes I did mean 1Gb!

With a PCMCIA adaptor for say £10, it's still 45% more expensive than a microdrive though.

AND! I checked microdrives on eBuyer and came up with this one (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=UFNTaG93UmVzdWx0cw%3D%3D). 2.2Gb for £117. Now that is cheap memory.

I don't understand why a solid state CF card is more expensive than a moving part super miniaturised CF hard drive. Can anyone enlighten me?

Tony I refer you back to my original point, its a no brainer, I have both btw. I have a microdrive for a Pocket PC and CF for Camera.

Fair comment Mikey. Mind you, I could buy an extra battery, AND have double the memory for nearly the same cost. Decisions, decisions.

I only have a 1GB microdrive and smaller flash. What would be useful to know is the comparative save times as that might be a good indicator one way or the other.

Sacrilege! Leave the iPod mini alone. I offer up for slaughter the craptastic muvo2:

How-to get a 4GB for less than £200 (http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/hacking_the_muvo2.php)
