View Full Version : Traffic cones and idiots
Martin_s 04-04-2004, 05:14 Having walked all the way home from town I came across more than one instance where stupid, imbecilic f*ckwhits had kicked, moved or knocked down signs indicating road works...
... worse some had shoved traffic cones out into the middle of roads such that cars could easily miss seeing them until almost too late then forcing them to swerve into the opposite lane...
... I witnessed 2 near misses before I could get to the cones to move them back to the pavement..
Anyway, my point is simply this... it may seem like a bloody good laugh to this stupid morons but I hope that the one time their actions do cause an accident it's them who die or are maimed by the car that swerves onto the pavement or crashes into an oncoming car... all because of their abject failure to recognise how something so seemingly "funny" can result in an outcome where someone loses their life...
Nuff said but I'm f***ing steaming at this... it's so pigging unnecessary...
It does seem to be a bad joke. I recently saw a car with a blue wheelie bin across the bonnet on Crookesmoor Road, litter all around it and no doubt a badly scratched paintjob. :loopy:  :loopy:
Has it been windy recently?
Last week when it was really windy I saw a bin nearly sideswipe my shiny new car. It just missed, I was too far away down the road to do anything...
f*ckwit scumbag students...nowt better to do than move traffic cones about.....how hilarious!!

Actually the idiots I saw kicking them around were anything but students...
.. so whilst students do undoubtedly nick the things... put the tar brush away...
NO..they are scumbags who deserve to be 'tarred'

Am I a scumbag? (ps. no one else answer that :P )
claiireee 05-04-2004, 14:27 Oi lets not all stereotype students! I for one have never felt the need to bring a traffic cone back to my bedroom, steel potplants, move traffic signs or place skips on cars (how did that happen). I know some students act like muppets when drunk but we're not all the same. I for one can act like a drunk muppet but tend to be drawn to my house after a night out rather than a traffic cone :)
Tyto Alba 05-04-2004, 15:25 The idea that moving cones around while drunk was funny went out of fashion 20 years ago.
I can't see any self respecting student doing it today........surely they have moved on.......far too uncool.
No, I reckon it was beer nasties or football hooligans.
claiireee 05-04-2004, 15:34 It does still go on, but it's mainly first years and then they get to second and third year and realise how stupid they must have looked :p
Tyto Alba 05-04-2004, 15:44 Oh right.
...........erm.......well tar 'em then I say!
well, my 1st thought when I saw the topic title was "STUDENTS!!!"
I've been a student, but I still fail to see the attraction with nicking or putting traffic cones on car roofs.
At least I was more creative i.e. re-routing all the signs to divert drivers into a cul-de-sac. It seemed funny at the time but at least it only caused minor inconvenience and annoyance, for my strategically-hidden viewing pleasure of course
What I really hate are the morons who insist on bending back windscreen wipers. Harmless...no, some cars have wipers that are overlapped by the bonnet so this not only bends the arms (£15 a set at least) but scratches the....
...I have just realised I have suddenly turned into a grumbling old Victor Meldrew O_O..I don't beliiiiieeeve it!...I'll just kill myself now!
claiireee 07-04-2004, 21:17 Hehe, where's your pipe and slippers. You also sound like your speaking from experience of having your wipers sent 'round the bend...wasn't me guv'na...*whistles*
Sam Miguel 07-04-2004, 21:29 Yes, Im totally agree: road-cones should not be tampered with in any way.
But, I believe, there are so many of the damn things (it must be difficult for a drunken mob of students to head back to their abodes without encountering whole herds of the things at 100-metre intervals) they are inviting trouble.
Let's have less road-works, please, and see if that cuts out this growing purge of road-cone violence.
claiireee 07-04-2004, 21:41 It's not just students!
Sam Miguel 07-04-2004, 21:56 Er, I'm a student, and I'm 48.
claiireee 07-04-2004, 22:01 Er I never said you weren't and you never said you'd done anything with traffic cones. Don't see what you're erring at.
Sam Miguel 07-04-2004, 22:12 But, don't you see? Traffic-cones are there for a reason: they are there to provide work for people who work in traffic-cone factories, in often deprived areas.
And therefore it requires people to 'redistribute them' by-way-of-boot in order to provide more work, and of course lots of overtime, for the employees who work in the dark, satanic traffic-cone factories of modern times.
That's why the working population (remember the Carlton and Raleigh factories) of Nottingham used to rely on people from all over the country to throw bicycles in rivers and streams.
claiireee 08-04-2004, 10:52 Hehe nope I don't remember the Carlton and Raleigh factories of Nottingham, maybe I'm too young...
Ah well, I'm off to find me some traffic cones!
Claire
Babooshka 08-04-2004, 16:45 I've got a spare one in my garage that I pinched when I was 16 ! Guess after 13 years they would have come for it by now if they had missed it ! Why all the 'blaming students'? Do you not think they have more calculated and cunning stunts they would rather pull than nicking a darn traffic cone ! I can not bear people who have a pop at students. They are, hopefully, the educated knowledge of our future....there to clean up the detritus dumped by today's dead beats !
I Know where your coming from...I used to work on the taxi's at the weekend and mindless drunken idiots that chucked stuff into the road as you approached them where there every Fri/Sat night....There is also the ones that run into the road trying to flag taxis down....

Well done!
The reason there are so many road works is so that Britain's prime industry - making road cones - is used to full effect.
Stealing some of the 179 BILLION road cones this country now has, means that replacements have to be made.
More work for the lads, I say.
Babooshka 25-04-2004, 18:10 Sam...I found the cone buried deep in the garage and you will be pleased to hear that it has been returned to the streets after 13 years of absence !
That's reminded me! I found a stray cone next to a phone box on the way home from a club one night. I was really drunk and thought it funny to ring the traffic cone helpline (god knows how I knew the number!)
I then proceeded to conjure up a heart breaking story of colin the cone, who'd been separated from all his family and was crying.
The phone operator (and my friends) were in stitches!
I scare myself sometimes.
SaxonLeigh 26-04-2004, 13:42 i get pritty *****d off at people who mess with traffic cones. they are there for the same reason as speed limits -TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE! and also when people mess with traffic cones on the motorway (you know who you are the people who like to see how many they can clip & knock over), because it means my friend who i dont see very often as it is, has to work over time picking them all up.

Why is it some people have such a chip on thier shoulder about students? To condem them is to condem a whole future section of society that will one day be your doctor, nurse, account, teacher or lawyer. Then you might not look down your nose at them but respect them for what they can do for you. Personally on a night out i've had more hassle and seen worse, more aggressive behaviour from non-students; evidence of this is surely the trouble you get on a friday or saturday night as opposed to a week night (aka student nights).
At the end of the day if you have that much attitude and prejudice about a social group in my view your no different to someone who dislikes someone purely for the colour of their skin or their sexuality.
Wake up and look around you. Society NEEDS students to function, plus they don't do the economy of sheffield any harm either!
