My Grandmother started her training in 1928 as a nurse at South yorkshire Mental Hospital.Does anyone have any information on where the hospital is and where any records are held.

the only mental hospital i know was middlewood s6 now demolished if that will help.

rotherham general hospital as a mental unit and so does doncaster gate thats in rotherham as you said south yorkshire mental hospital not sheffield it could be doncaster or barnsley or even rotherham. what you need to do is get in touch with the hallamshire hospital mental unit and see if they can help you out I was once under a Dr gittelson who worked at middlewood mental hospital but he also worked at the hallamshire so you could ask them. what about the town hall they might be able to help you, or you could pm redrobbo as he is a councilor in sheffield he might know where you could find out. hope this as helped you out

South yorkshire Mental Asylum went on to be called middlewood Hospital and subsequently closed in the late 90s.
