I had reason to go in to one of the Council offices last week to make an enquiry about something and during the course of these "discussions", I overheard a chance remark between 2 officials in which one said to the other that fares are going up again in May.
Does anyone know anything about the veracity of this and if so by how much and the intended date? Does this also mean that we cant trust our transport providers to tell us the truth about our travel costs? Although I have loads of other questions I'd like to know above all if we are we really getting a fair deal?
you might have heard right because I over heard 2 officials in rotherham interchange talking about bus fares going up again, but it could be stagecoach or yorkshire terrier who is putting up there fares then again it could also be first bus as I wouldnt put it pass them to hike up the prices again. I will try and get to know on monday morning as I am going to see a friend of mine who is a bus driver in rotherham but I could always ask one of the gaffers who I know. if I hear anything I will put it down here tomorrow night.
Yorkshire Terrier have just put theirs up.. My guessing is it will be First again. As if they aren't fleecing us enough.

I tyhink First made a pledge after the latest increases to nop increase them for a while, so hopefully they'll not go up. I think Terrier have just raised there's but you have the added bonus of using the tram from now on too. I dont think the SYPTE have plans to increase theirs.
WTF!! Fares are going up again, why dont we just hand the bus companys our wages when we get them? They are probably only going up becuase there are that many diversion's going on now. It use to take me all of 10 minutes to get to town now im lucky if i get there in 20 minutes and thats when there is NO traffic!!

hey calm down. I dont know. I've asked the question because of a conversation I overhead at the Council. Although it sounded highly credible that doesnt mean to say that it's fact and I wanted to know if any SF users could shed light on this, how come Council staff knew about this and if so when, not to mention the other questions in my original post.
I once used to think that catching the bus into town was far cheaper than taking the car and paying for parking also cos I liked the fact that I can get off the bus at one end of town and walk the full length and catch the bus at the other, I think it's gonna be the car for me from now on.
....and they want us to use public transport more.....they need to give us an incentive to do this.

ahh but the last increase was at least a week since, that is a "while" i suspect that firsts definition of a while will wildly differ from a sensible persons view

first fares are definately not going up
if first put their fares up again, I and a lot of other people I know will not be using first any more!!!
I was told today that it is not first bus fares that are going up so that just leaves stagecoach makes you wonder though that stagecoach as just bought some new buses so they will have to get the money from somewhere to pay for them. there is another bus company who could be putting there fares up and thats TM travel but I will see if I can get to know on tuesday as I am going up to the bus depot in rotherham.
