Does anyone know when new buses will arrive in yorkshire i am told by someone that i know that 100 new buses have been ordered and that most of them are heading for yorkshire and lincolnshire so i was just wondering if anyone knows when this is going to happen?

i was told that it would be happening in april where terrier are going to operate more routes and run at nights and weekends he also said that he knows a first manager from south yorkshire and he said that first are very worried now as south yorkshire is firsts most profitable route and the only area in the country where there is no proper competition.

I know that a new stagecoach man as arrived in barnsley and is now working on the x12 sypte tendered bus service between rotherham and barnsley.

and apperantly there are 4 new solos heading to traction 2 for yorkshire and 2 for lincolnshire.

i have some pics of the new stagecoach man bus inside and out on my transport website which is http://south-yorkshire.fotopic.net/

for the individual pictures click on the link below,

Optare Solo scores again in Stagecoach orders

Optare's low floor Solo midi-bus has again found favour with one of Britain's biggest bus operators. In its annual order announcement Stagecoach revealed that it is to order 95 more Solos to join the 213 it already has in service bringing the total to 308 vehicles.
Part of a 460-bus order worth in total some £50 million and due for delivery this year, the Stagecoach announcement underlines the popularity of the Solo amongst the UK's largest fleets. Stagecoach first bought Solo in 2001 and the latest vehicles are expected to operate across the Stagecoach network and at their newly acquired Yorkshire Traction operation.

"We are delighted that we have further strengthened our relationship with Stagecoach this year and - coming on top of our record sales and production performance in 2005 - this demonstrates Solo's dominance of its market sector", said Bob Coombes, Optare's Group Managing Director. "We have worked hard to make our products attractive, cost efficient and reliable to both large and small operators and this order shows that we are able to secure repeat business from one of the largest and most professional operators in our industry".

so it looks like stagecoach in yorkshire will be getting some more new buses over the coming year.

I think we'll know more whenthe next main registration changes take place at the end of April as part of the 4XY changes. I understand that Stagecoach will just update the Terrier/YTC colours. Hopefully they'll be done the same as the Tram which looks smart.

On your website (nit picking BTW as i can see you've done your work), the First Bus depot you have is actuall a SYPTE site (Rotherham Interchange)

First South Yorkshire are appalling what with frequent fare increases, service reductions and smaller buses.

Apparently Virgin Trains are going to issue all their staff with synchronised atomic watches.
Perhaps First South Yorkshire could do the same.

New vehicles will support company’s organic growth strategy
Provincial operations to benefit from major fleet investment
Stagecoach Group plc announced today (13 February 2006) that it has placed orders for more than 460 new vehicles for its UK bus division.

The £50 million investment will benefit customers in Stagecoach’s growing provincial UK bus operations.

Vehicle manufacturers Alexander Dennis, Optare, Plaxton and Volvo will supply a total of 13 single-deckers, 160 double-deckers, 165 midi-buses, 95 minibuses and 31 coaches.

The fleet of new vehicles will be delivered between April 2006 and the end of February 2007.

Details of the orders are:

30 Alexander Dennis Trident ALX400 double-deckers
130 Alexander Dennis Trident Enviro 400 double-deckers
165 Alexander Dennis Dart Pointer midibuses
13 Alexander Dennis Enviro 300 single-deckers
95 Optare Solo minibuses
31 Plaxton Profile/Volvo B7R coaches
Les Warneford, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “We have pursued a highly successful organic growth strategy in the UK in recent years and we believe more people in our towns and cities can be attracted to bus travel.

“We have expanded our UK bus operations with two significant acquisitions in the last 12 months and we are committed to focusing on investment, innovation and effective marketing to drive further growth.

“This latest capital investment will deliver a more comfortable travelling experience for passengers, better environmental performance, improved reliability and help make public transport more attractive to car users.”

Among the areas to benefit from the new investment will be the former Traction Group operations in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Tayside, which were acquired by Stagecoach in December 2005.

Stagecoach’s order includes five single-deck vehicles, fitted with the latest environmentally friendly Euro 4 engines, while the remainder meet the current Euro 3 low emission engine standards.

All of the new vehicles run on low-sulphur diesel, and are equipped with modern heating and ventilation. The buses also incorporate low floor access for parents with young children, people with disabilities and elderly passengers, and many feature a special ‘kneeling’ mechanism to help boarding from the pavement. All coaches are fitted with special lifts to assist boarding for wheelchair users.

Sign of things to come I think

All the buses have been given a Stagecoach number, some carry these on ST colours, some on their old colours but most none at all so far.

It has been decided that the Metroriders, step entrance Darts and Metrobuses aren't to be repainted as I suspect these will soon face the chop!

Any Stagecoach number carrying vehicles also have the old number still on or have had the old one applied on the new paint, this is until fuel systems and ticket machines are updated to carry 5 digit numbers I believe.

Anyway, I will get to the point,

Buses with new numbers on old YTC livery (still YTC names):
32198 K9YTB - Dart Pointer formerly at Terrier

Buses with new numbers, old colours, no names at all:
16868 2316HE (N418JBV) - Volvo Olympian NC Palatine 1

Buses with Stagecoach name, old colours, no numbers:
15417 YN53PAO - Scania N94UD ELC omnidekka

Buses with old colours, Stagecoach names and numbers:
15989 POG602Y - Metrobus II
15993 JWR138Y - Metrobus II
32167 L52ONW - Dennis Dart Pointer
32197 K3YTB - Dennis Dart Pointer

Buses repainted so far:

14835 K5YCL - Leyland Olympian NC Palatine 1
26049 K326FAL - DAF SB220 Optare Delta
26111 X211HHE - DAF SB220 SLF ELC Myllennium
26112 X212HHE - DAF SB220 SLF ELC Myllennium
26113 X213HHE - DAF SB220 SLF ELC Myllennium
28969 M299TWB - Scania L113 ELC European
28650 K413MSL - Scania N113 ELC 2000
30190 L426XVV - Volvo B6-50 Alexander Dash (B&Dist)
30217 M202LNC - Volvo B6-50 Alexander Dash (B&Dist)
31030 S130WKY - Volvo B6LE ELC Spryte
31347 P347JND - Volvo B6LE Alexander ALX 200
31944 V144MAK - Volvo B6BLE ELC Spryte

Buses Currently being done/prepared

26114 X214HHE - DAF SB220 SLF ELC Myllennium
26115 X215HHE - DAF SB220 SLF ELC Myllennium
31031 S131WKY - Volvo B6LE ELC Spryte

Also a couple are currently in for accident repairs and I guess these may get Stagecoach livery when finished:
31939 V139MAK - Volvo B6LE ELC Spryte - after very bad n/s front damage
15217 E737HFW - Volvo B10 ELC Citybus - now with ECW Olympian nose after big RTA

Sounds as though some Metroriders are to be reprepared for use on some new Stagecoach routes in Sheffield. No idea what these routes are to be, guessing they will be run by Terrier as was. They are though brand new runs so this could be the sign of things to come?

In the long term some of the large order from Solos will run these routes, hence these are just a stop gap.

To this effect 47958 N206VRC is currently in for Stagecoach repaint and no doubt some others will go in soon, the pool of buses that are currently out of use are:
N205VRC
N208VRC
N209VRC
N210VRC
N217VRC all stored in Barnsley depots. I suppose the number being painted will rely on the number of routes being set up, the most infor so far is "several"

I have just being told that no more new buses or repaints can take place until the oft decide if to let stagecoach run the services as road car overlaps the east midlands where stagecoach are the main bus operator so stagecoach might not get traction afterall if they dont we will probabily get arriva buses.

Also told that the old Driver Trainer Nationals have all gone for scrap, as appears to have K108XHG GTL Dart, maybe one that donated engine to 436.

From further infor I guess the new buses in the photos may be for Hull as 11 Tridents at least are due there

isn't there a link between the owners and some extreme right wing religious nutters in the states?

i've heard that they're quite a homophobic company.

smartie
13-03-2006, 20:58
Erm, dunno where you heard that!!

Brian Souter made a personal decision to donate £500,000 to the campaign against the repeal of Clause 28, based on his deep religious convictions.

He is a member of the Church of Nazarene, an austere branch of Methodist evangelism. Television, alcohol and smoking are discouraged.

He says he isn't homophobic, just that he doesn't want homosexuality promoted in schools, by local authorities. He also believes that capitalism is greed.

Having previously been "inside" Stagecoach, through different parts of the business, I would say that they are far from a homophobic company.

Everyone has the right to their own personal views, even if you don't agree with them. He is also an excellent businessman and strategist, except for when they boo-booed buying Coach USA, but the main cause of that downfall was 9/11.

Turning back to the local issues, I hope Terrier and Tracky don't lose their "local" feel. Its a shame that another "Yorkshire" company has become part of a larger, national group. Modern times need better solutions, and I think the Supertram/Terrier/Quality Contract era could be the start of something decent for Sheffield.

Stagecoach Express (the 727) etc., is a former shadow of what the grand network was back in the 1990's. Regional Railways growth took away their customers, and the services died off eventually. Pronto (Chessy - Nottingham) is a good example of evolution though, but a lot of that may be down to Trentbarton.

Bit of info coming from a Rawmarsh driver:

Route 39 hasn't run for last 3 days due to bus situation, 163/4 elsewhere.

The drivers have been told that 5 "new" buses are coming for the work on route 1, what they are it is too early to tell and wouldn't want to guess, but suspect too early for MCVs. I wouldn't expect new to necessarily mean brand new either!

Victims adding to problems are 142 which has crashed and 408 with a breakdown, as well as 139 and 205, 298 and 627 still out of use.

The last one, N206VRC should be on the top list as well, is in Stagecoach colours! May yet see a Metrobus, looking at state of that repaint. As a result of the work at Terrier being delayed (which this was painted for) it seems a bit odd that no more have been done anyway, guessing that this may be the sole Metrorider to be done!
