View Full Version : Mountain Bike or Hiking get togethers!
Hi all
Anyone know of any mountain bike or hiking get togethers that happen around the south west of the city.
Prefferably mountain biking. Nothing serious as extreme mtb'ers are just too much.

Sandra Spice 04-04-2004, 14:07 HAve a look at our events list to see if there's anything U fancy.
Spice South Yorks (http://www.spicesyorks.com)
How about we start one?
I can't find the other thread on getting a few people going out biking followed by a beer, but there seemed to be a little interest, and I need to start exercising quick. I'll still want the beer at the end though!
How about it, tomorrow night 6pm for example. Any takers?
fnkysknky 14-04-2004, 19:41 Do you wanna lend me a bike :)
Seriously though if I manage to convince brother in law that I'd be better off with his bike sometime in the near future I might be up for it.
If i leant you a bike, it might end up smellin of bacon, know what i mean!
fnkysknky 14-04-2004, 21:12 You should have gone into stand up :)
I'd be up for this if you can make it a weekend and you don't mind waiting for a fat bloke to catch you up now and again....
Redrooster 16-04-2004, 11:43 yer sounds a laugh, keep me posted
Conor_Boyd 20-04-2004, 16:23 i gotta sort out some bits and peices for my bike but after that i would be on for this also.
i am in need of getting fit for august as i have [foolishly] signed up for the SITS 24hour event and havent been on my bike for a year due to being in spain drinking beer and eating tapas.
im pretty new to the area and so having someone to show me the trails would be a definate bonus. oh yeah, im in the bike and then beer class also. whats the point in getting too serious ;]
I'm also new to Shef so who's volunteering for the guide role?
Conor_Boyd 20-04-2004, 16:30 we could try and use some of the routes that get published in the mags every now and then, they are usually about a 20m loop... think i have a mag with one in there.
Ok,
So we have a Sheff Forum mountain bike team,
I live in the Dore/Totley area (currently) & i think this area or Endcliff park is a good starting point, Hunters Bar roundabout, then mabe straight up through mayfield valley & then the Norfolk arms, a good, bike friendly watering hole ( i know the owners) eh, eh, although not enough for free ale!
Anyone up for meeiting, either of a night now they are light or a weekend!
I finish work at 2pm so anytime after this is cool.
If interested PM me & we'll organise!
yeh, anyone, all that nice sunshine!!
lungbusting, kneeburning fun!
fnkysknky 25-04-2004, 20:55 Ah, been told by doctor i gotta rest my foot for a while so that's me out for the time being :( No footy either, gutted.
Conor_Boyd 26-04-2004, 09:04 im down in london for the week with work - sucking up all the smoke. ;[ would be on for it when i get back though ;]
shepherdjack 25-05-2004, 15:02 JUST FOUND YOU POST, SEEMS LIKE A BIT OF MTB CRU STARTING UP HERE!!
I WOULD BE INTERESTED ALSO, HOW FAR FROM SHEFFIELD ARE YOU PLANNING TO STRAY?
JACK
globeglobber 01-06-2004, 20:02 Havent managed to get a bike yet, anyone up for a hike?
It's like trying to organise a pissup in a brewery!
Surely its easy to organise a pi$$ up in a brewery??
Unless the person is an idiot then you would use the term you couldn't organise a pi$$ up in a brewery. So in this case YOU couldn't organise a pi$$ up in a brewery!! :D
How about a gentle ride around Ladybower for beginners - bikes can be hired for £9?
Ladybowers good - if you can park in the bays on the road close to the main car-park or you'll have to stump up 2:50 for a days parking.
The bikes there can be a bit ropey - or the one I had was.
If it's a nice day then a picnic out at slippery stones at the very end of derwent/howden would be good.
Did any of this happen/still happening ?
If you fancy joining me for a discovery tour of Wharnecliffe Woods this Sun I'll be in the car park from 3pm. If you fancy something more strenuous you can join myself and speedyjim for a 3 hour trip from Hope on Sat 25th. PM me if you have any questions or go to www.spinac.com
More info on Wharncliffe Woods at http://www.heritagewoodsonline.co.uk/map/033/033g.html Let me know if you fancy joining me at 3pm on sun (12th) probably best to bring a waterproof as the forecast is not that great
Speedy_Jim 09-09-2004, 08:46 Hey fellas.
At the risk of being utterly crap I'm gonna have to duck out of the Hope trip on that Sunday. It's my mates 30th birthday and I'm organising a party for him - it's gonna gobble up most of that Saturday
Sorry dude - i'm still really up for getting out there. How about the following weekend?
no problem - will definitely do more soon. i think pranav is keen to do 25th so will go ahead anyway. sorry can't make w/e 2nd oct as organising charity abseil (www.spinac.com/abseil.aspx - places still available), in spain w/e 9th oct and have family get-together w/e 16th oct. Is 23 oct any good? maybe you could get together with pranav before then? enjoy the party - keep in touch

you fancy joining the 2 of us on wednesday then? might be a bit of a 1/2 day and 1/2 night ride the way that the weather is going though. i will be starting from the metal teapots near the showroom but im meeting Rich at the hunters bar roundabout on the way up.
rich_abcdef 05-10-2004, 11:34 I ve got some you-can-see-me lights but not the I-can-see-the-way-down-a-dark-wooden-path-at-night type. So we'll have to get the off road stuff done before 6.30-7.00
Conor_Boyd 05-10-2004, 12:26 sounds fine to me. im going to try and leave a little earlier then. so maybe we can meet at 5pm or something. that will give us an extra 30 mins or so. im testing out some lights i got here atthe mo. if they are ok i can loan you something that you can see the trail with.
Hi
Last call for anyone who'd like to go for a ride tomorrow (sunday). We're setting off at 11:30, meeting in the les car pub car park and going for about 2-3 hours. I'm a trained mountain bike leader and Im trying to get experience of leading rides to gain my full qualification. I can give pointers on technique. If you want to come give me a call 07980 812 786. I can accommodate anyone, any age, any ability!
Tim
where abouts are you cycling
Probably head up endcliffe vale parks and then out over towards burbage edge. Haven't finalised the route yet so can probably be altered a bit if need be!
