View Full Version : Does anyone else get fed up of over crowded pubs ? D2J 03-04-2004, 13:19 Anyone get annoyed of over crowded places.. I was out last sat night ... couldn't move without spilling my pint ... and one silly moo was soo ****** she stumbled over and I got a stiletto in my foot *grrrr*. princess_rockchick 03-04-2004, 14:05 I know what you mean........ It does get very annoying, especially when you are standing at the bar and have to wait ages because people are pushing you all the time. disc0tech 03-04-2004, 14:48 Yeah definetely. So many times I've wanted to meet a group of friends and actually be able to talk to more than the people sat on either side of me.... it's just impossible in the town centre or Ecclesall Road. I'm not much of a fan of suburban pubs, plus my friends live all over, so saying 'Hey, let's all meet up in Crookes / Nether Edge / Fulwood / <insert suburb of choice>' is not really practical. Somebody....build more pubs!! AndrewC 03-04-2004, 15:49 I went to many a crowded west street bar last nite. Cavendish is often ridiculous on a weekend nite. dinp 04-04-2004, 00:03 go to corp, cheap, cheerful and no queues for the bar! (check beforehand what music is on or you could be in for a shock) RPG 04-04-2004, 00:51 I wouldnt say the corporation is classed as a non busy place :| RSPV is always fairly quiet when I go in, nice atmosphere too  (and they sell Hoegaarden, which is a rarity) mr craig 04-04-2004, 06:46 Originally posted by disc0tech Somebody....build more pubs!! Can't argue with that. :) Cyclone 04-04-2004, 08:54 you can find the yorkshire gray or the roebuck to be quiet on a friday/saturday sometimes. It seems to be pot luck, other times they will be packed. It's normally possible to get on the pool table within 20 mins though, on a Friday it's rare enough to be even able to play! wibbles 05-04-2004, 13:00 Originally posted by Deejay Anyone get annoyed of over crowded places.. Carmine 05-04-2004, 15:34 The problem with that suggestionis the simple fact that there just isn't any where that's less than crowded in the city centre on a Friday or Saturday night; you have to be in the suburbs to even have a chance of finding a pub in which you can breathe out and not spill half a dozen people's pints. That said, even places like Walkley, Broomhill and Crookes are heaving on the weekend due to the fact they provide a perfect jumping off ground for the city centre. It's a shame that all these pubs are packed out, but unless there's a sudden explosion in the number of new pubs being built in the city centre, I can't see the situation changing any time soon. One possibility might be to find a queit pub off the beaten track and spend the night there, possibly venturing into town later to catch a club? SatanInHeels 05-04-2004, 15:50 I wouldnt say the corporation is classed as a non busy place definatly not, can get very busy in places!! even though you dont have to queue at the bar which is a very good point! (please note that i have not made any comment to the rep of the corporation this time, and no where have i said it is a nice place to be, even if i find it a bloody good night going there!!) if you dont like the busy pubs then dont go in them!! there are always not busy ones!! the ones we went in last night (yes it was a sunday but still...) were practically empty! X x X Carmine 05-04-2004, 15:54 The Corporation might not have a queue at the bar, but after the queues at the door, the cloakroom, into one room and out of the next it can get a little tiring...add to that the fact that the DJ's soemtimes seem to forget that they're supposed to fill the dancefloor rather than empty it and the bar might just be the only place where you don't have to queue or rip your hair out in frustration. boyface 06-04-2004, 11:50 Maybe if we built new pubs instead of changing all the exisiting ones into faceless white bulidings with chrome furniture and **** music it would all be much better. wow...I sound old genesiscouch 06-04-2004, 16:52 This thread makes no sense:loopy: Why are you complaining about packed pubs/clubs? That means there are loads of people out and about...why are you going out if you don't want to be with other people? If you invite your mates over to your flat I'm sure there will be no queue for the bar. So on one hand we have all these threads complaining about the boring bars and nightlife and then on the other hand we have people complaining that they are too full? Seems like the one thing people in Sheffield are good at is complaining. mr craig 06-04-2004, 21:16 Originally posted by genesiscouch This thread makes no sense:loopy: I've got to agree with that. There is plenty of choice for people who don't like going into the more crowded bars in town. If you just journey off the main drags like West St and Division St theres quite a few back street pubs which don't to get to busy, but arn't dead either. Tony 07-04-2004, 06:48 Well I would have thought that it is easy to go to pubs that aren't overcrowded... just go out any day but Friday or Saturday. It's daft to complain about crowds when you're one of them. Maybe think for yourself a bit before you go out? :loopy: boyface 07-04-2004, 07:33 my point wasn't really about crowded pubs so probably the wrong thread. I was getting more at the fact that developers seem to think every pub needs to be developed in the same way...i.e. chrome furnishings etc. where as I know many people who'd rather have a "normal" pub but these are in decline and now few and far between....and do get packed on a weekend. Yes I know there are those farther out, but in terms of meeting up city centre is the easiest place. I'll go get me coat now. *Twinkle* 07-04-2004, 09:53 Cavendish is often ridiculous on a weekend nite. You're telling me! Lol Chris and I went in there and we were squished, literally! We had to get the elbows in to get to the bar! Arghhh! Then it cost us £6 for 2 bottles of some blue stuff that tasted like ice pops when they're not frozen.... lol RSPV is always fairly quiet when I go in, nice atmosphere too I'm sure it was RSVP last time I looked? fnkysknky 07-04-2004, 13:51 Originally posted by kevy999 my point wasn't really about crowded pubs so probably the wrong thread. If there was as much demand for them as you think there is then there would be more of them. Markets follow what people want, people want chrome and other shiny things it seems. boyface 07-04-2004, 14:06 Originally posted by fnkysknky If there was as much demand for them as you think there is then there would be more of them. I think it's easy for people to be told what to like as well, through advertisiing/the media /peer pressure etc. Just what I think..... genesiscouch 07-04-2004, 16:35 Originally posted by kevy999 you think? well, not the people I know. So if a person likes chrome fixtures in the bar because it's what the media popularizes this is a less valid preference than the person who prefers a stuffed boar's head on the wall? If someone likes 'trendy' bars so be it...why is their preference a poor choice if it happens to be influenced by advertising and the media? Who or what formed your pub preferences? Something did whether it's on MTV or not. Maybe your preference indicates a more malleable personality because you are unable to define your influences.... |
