Why is it Glues you buy in a DIY Store do not do the job?

Is it just me?

I follow the instructions to the letter...and it doesn't work!

This has been true for all the years I can remember.

But buy something pre-packaged from a Manufacturer of whatever it is, and you just can't get past the Glue.

It drives me bonkers....don't know about you..............:suspect:

Maybe you're not buying the right sort of glue for the job? There's a bewildering array for all sorts of different materials. I tend to leave it to the better half though. I tend to try to use Bostick on polystyrene tiles and end up melting them!

Are you talking about the 'no nails' stuff ? Never worked for me either, - fixing battens to a wall I use 10 gauge x 2.5 inch scews, never fail :D

Never tried no-nails........got fed up with the rest on the market.

Been buying them for nearly 40 years on and off...for every possible application...followed instructions...they just don't work.

Plastics, wood...you name it.

Nothing sticks paper together like the old flour and water paste I used to make kites with.

As you say, when all else fails stick some screws in and things hold together.

I'll tell you what does work. Fast set Polyurethane wood glue. I buy it from "Screwfix" (You can get a catalogue from them or find them on line).

Not only does it stick wood to wood. But wood to almost anything. It goes off in about 10 mins and is fully cured in a few hours. Its brill. Well worth sticking with! :hihi:

Sigh...! What exciting lives we lead...

Jimso..you may have cracked it. Up to now I have purchased only "Retail" glues....and they don't work.

Tradesmen come to the house and do jobs using adhesives which are indestructable...even Carpet Fitters.

Never thought about buying from the Suppliers to Professionals..... I have seen that company advertised on Sky. Will certainly give them a go next time.

Thanks...sounds good...
