View Full Version : HOAX: Beware of carjackers
you walk across carpark, keys in hand.
you get in car start engine, put car in reverse-you notice a piece of paper on back window so you put car in neutral, handbrake on and jump out to retrieve it. At this point 'they' jump in and drive off, taking your bag, shopping etc with them, along with ID and potentially your address(they already have your keys)
PLEASE TAKE CARE-this is already happening in the south and is working its way up here
B******s eh?
yeraknow 24-02-2006, 17:13 I once got an email like this. :suspect:
1. it's old
2. it's actually american
3. the police said it was a hoax
nope car jacking is you drive and when you stop at a traffic lights a few cars surround you and force you to get out,.
happened to me in nottingham a few years ago,
had to ram the car in front to get out.
police was useless (AS USUAL)

think you should let strathclyde and leicester health authorities know its a hoax then as they are taking it pretty seriously
were you ok wwp8? sounds pretty scary-im sure whoever was in front was a bit shocked n all!
SatanInHeels 24-02-2006, 21:26 as im sure ive said before on here.. my landlord got his car nicked in a similar way when he got out to talk to someone for a minute and left the keys in.. it happens
This 'hoax' has been appearing on forums all over the world for quite some time now and, whilst it is a credible theory and certainly possible, it is not something that is happening anywhere near the levels that the 'warning messages' appear to want you to believe. You've more chance of having your car nicked whilst you are nowhere near it

i could have followed through on that night,
balaclava guys (3 cars) 1 walked near to my side window,
gee....... heart racing like hell.
police said I SHOULD report it cos they could report it saying i hit their car and drove off and get me done instead.
also mentioned same night another guy got his nicked (same car) but he got pulled out and beaten up.
also in broad day light a woman got her bmw nicked, (pulled her out of the car)
so my tip to myself, have a habbit of locking the doors,
leave a gap between your car and the one in front at traffic lights,

Sometimes the hoax e-mails name police forces/health authorities, it all adds to their authenticity, you see....
Like the one about the date rape drug that sterilises it's victims - that supposedly came from a health authority somewhere in the UK, however, when they were contacted, they had no-one working there of the same name as the originator, and the drug they named didn't exist. But it seemed authentic by naming a health authority.
I've had the car jacking e-mail on several occasions over the past 3 or 4 years, always claiming to be a "new M.O.".
And I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, car jackings can happen in the same way that any other crime can. But it doesn't mean that it is widespead or that there is a new gang going round the country tricking people.
from across the pond...
you may find this amusing, may not...
but, around here a few years ago there was a warning that spread around the emails and such that a new gang's initiation ritual was to drive around with their headlamps tuned off and when a passing motorist would flash their lights at them to notify them, the gang member was to go kill them....
...it really got people's attention...but, there was never a single case reported.
still, it left such an impression on me that I stopped notifying other drivers by flashing my lights at them....(wonder how many of them went on to cause accidents for lack of lighting!!)
