When I joined the forum, I chose nobikejohn as my forum name because I'd just had my motorbike stolen from my garage at home whilst I was at work one evening. I was, quite literally, nobikejohn!

I reported the theft to the police, but as none of my neighbours had seen anything suspicious happening. I resigned myself to the loss of my bike, and to the thieves getting away with their crime.

Imagine my surprise when one week later, the police visited me to say that they had recovered my bike! Sadly, it was a mess, and beyond repair. It transpired that, acting on information received, the police had kept under survellience a second-hand shop in Hull, only two few miles down the road from where I live. They eventually raided the premises, and found my bike in bits in the back of a wagon, whereupon the shop owner was arrested.

Today I opened my mail to find a letter - "In the matter of Regina v Jeffrey Taylor".

The letter informed me that at Hull Crown Court On 21 February, he was found guilty of handling five items of stolen goods, including my motorbike, and has been sentenced to 4 years 3 months imprisonment.

I am of course delighted to know that the police do indeed catch criminals, and am very grateful that I have been kept informed of the outcome of the trial. Good news! Pity the sentence wasn't longer!

That is really good, it makes a change for there to be a decent outcome in these kind of cases.

Nice to know that the police and courts recognise the importance of informing the victim of the outcome of a trial. Well done to the Crown Prosecution Service who didn't waste any time in letting you know - only 2 days after the trial! Exellent news that the guy is behind bars!

Thats brilliant news John. It really is good to know that thieving little scum bags do get their deserved punishments......if caught.
I know I deviate here but I have to do it. It is just a pity and a great shame that other crimes are allowed to happen without "just" punishments. Just imagine if the person who stole your ......or any persons bike or car for that matter...then went onto kill an innocent person. A child for example. Just imagine if that thief didn't even have a driving licence......no insurance....no anything! He was a thief and he had no right to be driving a vehicle on our roads......but he did and he then went on to mow down a baby on a pelican crossing. That baby died......she was called Levi and she was three years old. The "case" went before the magistrates court and a 12 week jail sentance was passed down because that was all the magistrates court was able to do. The killer of that child got a lesser sentance than the thief of your bike did. Where is the justice in that? I do agree that the thief's sentance is appropiate.......but as for the killer of that beautiful little innocent child.....well it is a bloody joke! And it is not the first "joke" as regards our justice system. That man stole a car and drove it when he had no licence to drive......that says it all. He then went on to drive recklessly over a crossing and mowed down a baby and carried on driving. He KILLED that child and there is no excuse. His intentions were bad to begin with because he had no right to either the car or to drive on our roads. For this crime to be dealt with in the magistrates courts is a joke in itself.

It's good to see the real criminals being caught and convicted. Without these receivers those who steal would have nowhere to peddle their ill gotten gains.

Well done the police and justice system and thanks somebikejohn for a good news story.

Whilst I applaud the sentence given to the thief of NB-John's bike, and say "Yeah he got at least part of his just desserts", you do have to question the nonsensical attitudes of judges who can permit a sentence of 12 weeks for the ******* who mowed down that little girl. MY God! 12 weeks... that's less than a week for every three months of that little girl's life.

it's definitely about time judges got down with the real world and gave aprpriate sentences.

if you kill someone whilst driving under the influence it should be treated as straight murder.
