View Full Version : Masterchef Goes Large
youwhatref 23-02-2006, 19:51 Am i the only sad person who's really enjoyed this??? I always saw Masterchef as boring and think of Lloyd Grossman.
Now i think it's great! Love the format.
I think it's pretty entertaining television. I like to try and figure out who's going to go through, with a fair success rate......
I like Masterchef and I can tolerate the judges, but the repetitive intro and voice-over is beyond annoying. We know what happens but couldn't they vary it just a bit??? Hopefully now the Winter Olympics has finished it won't be disrupted.
It's bizarre though, I have no interest in being a chef nor do I particularly enjoy cooking (I'm a lazy cook, stick to what I know, and I want it done in seconds rather than minutes, although my boyf is trying to sort me out and slow me down) and I really don't get these who are "passionate about cooking" but for some reason I like watching other people sweat ;)
I'm addicted to it, I must be sad too :(
SpiderPete 01-03-2006, 09:54 I ao sooooo addicted to this show, and never miss it, I am also a lazy cook, actually I am a crap one... god knows what I would do without the amazing Microwave.
officegirl 01-03-2006, 10:12 I'm addicted to it, I must be sad too :(
can i join the sad gang, i love that show too, i even tape it so i dont miss any of it when im out after work
the inorvation round is fab i try to think what would i make if i was given those ingrediants
i too love masterchef and missed who won through when the olympics were on as they moved it,but the voice over is so annoying
I'm another fan though don't get to watch as much as I'd like. Wish they'd give it a better time slot and stop moving it about.
Sometimes I am really cocky and think ' I can do better than that' then other times I realise how 'home cooking' my level of cookery is.
Ah well will just have to keep eating out to experience experimental cuisine - what a pity !

Now i think it's great! Love the format.I love it although I've missed one or too. Any programme that involves cooking gets my vote:)

Same, it will probably repeat on UKTV food channel on Sky.
Who did win though, anyone know?
I like it, its much better than the old Lloyd Grossman/Gary Rhodes format. The woman who won the first series (cant remember her name, sorry) is already making appearances on other cooking shows, she was on Food Uncut on UKTVFood the other week.
SpiderPete 08-03-2006, 18:03 Well this semi-final is quite interesting, enjoyed todays episode .. anyone else watch it ?
Trying to pick a winner aint gonna be easy each one have their good points and then have a bad point as well, the kitchen catches them out.
I think one of the women will go out on Friday...

I agree - could be Beckie though she's a real trier. Or Peter could go as he is struggling at times and not excelling.
At the moment my favourite is Dean the Digger man to win but could all change tomorrow...
Pednbrose 09-03-2006, 23:35 Dean the Digger to win, head and shoulders above the rest.
Excellent show, however, would have thought that the producers would be aware that this type of show is a cult show and if you watch one, you watch them all if you can.
How many times can you watch John and Greg saying the same things at the beginning of each show.:loopy:
May as well tape it and watch it and wind through the repeat bits.
However..................
Dean to win
SpiderPete 10-03-2006, 06:30 Yes Dean is looking the winner so far, although he fluffed it last night in his meal he had to cook, and the girls had a good day yesterday.....
One to go tonight .... who will it be ... :suspect:

Also agree that Dean is the favourite.
I think the young girl will go tonight (Becky?)

Well i got Becky right. Wsa great watching the critics rip em to shreds.
Dacksha has come to the front in the last few episodes to it may be interesting.

It's between Dean and Daksha now.
Are we having a final on Friday or are they only going to get rid of one more?
BBC website says it runs till 17 March.
Go Digger Dean!
Or Daksha, just not Peter.
officegirl 11-03-2006, 18:26 i agree i dont want peter to win, he constantly looks smug about everything even when his food goes t*ts up
digge dean to win
but i do wish dasksha would stop crying at every moment
Pete is poo.
Daksha annoys me because she keeps serving up traditional gujarati food which my grandma makes (and me sometimes). As long as you can make it, its gonna taste nice and impress someone who's never had it before. I thought you were supposed to come up with new ideas? Although was impressed when she did the twist on the duck a l'orange.
I think (hope) Dean will win.
Pednbrose 14-03-2006, 19:35 Still think Deans going to win. Dashker's cracking up under the strain and Peter still can't make a sauce or get things done on time and he dithers about a lot. Deans salmon mousse starter with the truffles looked brill. Can't see either of the other two being able to pull that off.
SpiderPete 14-03-2006, 19:41 I think Dean has it in the bag as well, the other 2 are starting to annoy me now
I think Dean has it in the bag as well, the other 2 are starting to annoy me nowi hope dean does win ,peter is the judges favourite i think even though he cant go outside of his comfort zone and as for dakshe well she would not last 2 minutes in a pro kitchen with her attitude i hope she does not win
Really enjoyed the show, but fed up of intros too.
Really think Dean deserves to win.
The boy has potential!!!
thes_cat_man 15-03-2006, 19:46 To be honest I've not seen the new series but the old Grossman series was really dull and drab
Dean's my favourite to win now. He has good leadership skills, rarely gets into a fracas (unlike the other two), and he is good at being part of a team.
Datcha (sp.) seems to be continually in a panic, and doesn't like being told what to do, which will be no good if she wants to work in a pro kitchen.
Peter's idea of teamwork is to leave everyone else to do the hard work, while he covorts with the hoy poloy. He has constant problems with his timings, and his bloody smug attitude really winds me up.

Spot on Ann, last night shows that Datcha is not very good at taking orders in the Kitchen, which she would have to do if she worked in one.
Dean is good in the Kitchen and thats what the judges are looking for, he should win easy and will be mega surprised if he don`t win.
2 days to go now, I wonder what they will do tonight... must admit Datcha running round the QE2 kitchen looking for her fish was hillarious, how embarrasing was that
"it's the winning that counts"
"I will lose my brownie points"
She was really annoying me last night, especially when the chef told her to do something different and she went and did it her way anyway.
Pete had the lurgies.
I missed the last 15 mins of last nights ( Weds) show. Saw Datcha and Dean poached, omlette and fry eggs.
But whom did better in cooking for the Captain ?
Dean did.
Daksha did an impression of a headless chicken.
Ta Spicey for the update.
Goodie - I like Dean the Digger and think he'd take the most advantage of the prize of a new career in the restaurant trade.
But win or lose I think he'd get offered a job in a restaurant now.
after tonights show i hope dean wins ,daksha is totally doing my head in now,me thinks peter was pulling a real bad sickie on wednesday as he knew he would not cope with the task he had to do,still think the judges want peter to win
SpiderPete 16-03-2006, 18:07 well after today, its a bit close between Peter and Dean, Peter did better for the judges cookin food, but I feel Dean still got the edge, but tomorrows 3 course meal will find out.
I hope the tele doesnt go on the blink, cause I will be soooooooooo annoyed
NOOOOO! NOOOOO! NOOOOO!
Have they been watching three different people? How on earth did they choose that smug git Peter as the winner?
It's completely farcical!
No No No...
It all went wrong at the end.... Peter could not poach an egg. He could not make a sauce. He lost the plot all the way. How could he win?
Pah.
Hehe, but he did manage to produce an edible meal on the day - unlike the other two ;)
 How can Peter win?
Internetowl 17-03-2006, 19:13 Peter was laughing when the bird forgot to cook the bird :)
Deserved it - sauces come from bottles in red and brown , any fool knows that :)
Really wanted lovely Dean to win. What an ar*ehole Peter was, he managed to duck out of a lot of team work, screwed up othet peoples chances by being late all the time and laughing at Daska's phesent disaster was just a horrible thing to do and the self satisfied smug git wins   I invested 2 weeks of my normal Hollyoaks viewing time to this!
Yes ok i'm sad
SpiderPete 18-03-2006, 11:56 Hehe, but he did manage to produce an edible meal on the day - unlike the other two ;)
Exactly and thats why he wont........ Dean should go into Modelling......

Yes ok i'm sadabsolutely gutted that he won ,he cheated his way through all rounds and when he laughed at daksha ,that was evil,i hopr that dean goes on to make a proper career out of it and show the judges they were wrong
Pednbrose 18-03-2006, 22:58 absolutely agree with Lint, I was so certain Dean had won, he was head and shoulders above the rest. Totally gob smacked when Peter won.
I think the judge's fancied Peter, the 3 food critics all said he was the worst and then the judges picked him anyway, highly :suspect:
And yes it is telly but its someone getting the chance of a lifetime to follow their dreams and it should have been DEAN!
Off for a chill pill and the Hollyoaks omnibus......
What a total farce Jonh and Greg should hang their heads in shame (CALL THEM SELFS EXPERTS)
Peter the winner utter garbage .Couldent work in a team ,couldent get the meals out in time and cooked a ok meal on the final. Most of the other times he was bad .he will never get a job in a top kitchen and would struggle in his own .(so whats the point?) all because the others made a mistake on the last night .they gave him the title WHY ?when they had beaten peter hands down on everything
so what is all the point the other two working their backsides off ,what for, nothing.(so tip for next year finalist do **** all the way through and good on the last night then they will think you are really good HA HA)
i am so disgusted both daksha and dean must feel so cheated i will never watch this show again they should put Gordon Eamsey in there at least we would have got the right result not peter
I hope John and Greg get to know of the bad feeling from all the VEIWERS. At thet end of the day the programe only work's if we watch it.
This might sound sad but i have sent in a complaint to the BBC SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER DONE
so i will see what reply i get i will keep you posted !
Dean was SOOOOOOOOO robbed. Although I disagree with outright slagging off directed at Peter on the BBC Food messageboards. What was the point of doing all those tasks which Dean won hands-down, only to pick Peter who failed in some aspect of all of them. OK, he couldn't help being ill but that was an exception. I loved it when the food critic said he was pretentious as well. The tasks should have counted more, and the cook-off been less significant in the scheme of things
This is the reply i sent to thee BBC RE the reply they have sent to all the complaints
BBC How dare you insult your wiewers with this reply below. Your team are a disgrace, you have insulted the people who pay your wages with our licence fee. Your comments about peter were wrong (raymond blanc would not have said this about peter had he had the other two in the kitchen. you highlighted in your reply the few good comment peter had thats it .where as dean and dashka in all rounds beat him hands down ) so were the ones about dean you have tried played deans down his fantastic abiltiy and who was over all the best competitor . Dashka i thought was fair. Did you watch the programme? i have been to so many message boards re the master chef programme and all have the same views as me the programme was a utter digrace the judges got it very wrong you may to try and justify this but you cant please take action listen to the people who watch your programes John and Greg should be replaced and next year the finalist should go to a phone vote because the people who actually watch the programme judge fairly and would vote the best person to win SO EVERYONE CAN NOT BE WRONG CAN THEY? please take note! Never before have i felt so strongly about a programme Regards Leesa Barber BBC REPLY BELOW *I appreciate that you may continue to disagree, rest I understand that you feel Peter did not deserve to win 'Masterchef Goes Large' on 17 March. Peter was John and Gregg's choice to become this year's Masterchef and we believe is a deserving one. We also deeply admire Daksha and Dean and are pleased that they will benefit from being in the final three. They have both been recognized as extremely committed and talented cooks with a real future in the food industry if they choose to pursue one. The reason why we do the semis and final programmes is to expose these amateur cooks to a range of other chefs and high pressure cooking environments. It is a chance for them to really learn. Ultimately during these last 10 programmes, Peter, Daksha and Dean all exposed strengths and weaknesses. Dean proved himself to be an excellent team-player and hard worker both in Norway and on the QE2, but he sometimes found it hard to be a leader, and he often made basic cooking errors ( for example when he cooked his duck in the same container as his smoked tea). Daksha was an extraordinary talent at learning to cook food she had never cooked before (the souffle at the Ritz, her chocolate moose at Wellington Arch and the partridge in programme 34), but she often found the pressure of professional kitchens very difficult. Peter often had problems with timings and with pressure, which made the critics' table (programme 35) his worst meal in the competition, but he steadily and consistently improved and the quality of his food could be extremely high - at the Ritz he made an exceptional tournedo of beef with foie gras ravioli and the legendary Raymond Blanc was hugely impressed with Peter's knowledge, cooking ability, passion and potential when he excelled at the Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. What all this means is that when they arrived at the Masterchef kitchen on the morning of the final programme, they each had a shot at the title. Their performance across the previous programmes had not shown a clear leader or a clear loser. The programmes stated this throughout the week, saying it remained an open race. On the last day, it was Peter's performance that tipped the scales in his favour. Hence he became our winner. assured that your comments have been fully registered on our daily audience log. This internal document will be made available to the production team and Senior BBC Management.
If you visit the bbc site http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/tv_and_radio/masterchef/decision_index.shtml you will find the same thing word for word under the wuestion 'why did Peter win?'
