The BBC site here may be helpful for rhe kids, until the weather improves.

Also if you look on the bbc.co.uk website, put "Bill Oddie" in the search on the main page, and you will find all sorts of things which will interest them.

They used to be the "Young Ornitholigists' Club" (YOC).

Today they are the RSPB's "Wildlife Explorers" (http://www.rspb.org.uk/youth/join_in/wex/index.asp)!

There is a really good bird spotters book that I had as a kid. Its only basic but it gives different birds scores based on how common they are, 5 points for a Chaffinch, 10 for a Treecreeper, 15 for a Buzzard and 25 for Golden Eagle etc. For a kid that sort of thing was really addictive.
I wish I could remember its title.

This is not just for children but it helps to identify the usual garden birds that you find. It also has sound so that you can hear how they sing.

If you go to the bbc / wildlife site you can download a mini Oddie that pops up out of a hedge and updates you on wild life issues.
The kids will like that.
I have a mini Oddie on my PC.
