I was on the normal metformin for my diabetes type 2 but it was making me incredibly ill so they put me on the slow release.

i was on them for about week before my friends and family were begging me to come off them. I was throwng up about 2-3 times a day was feeling weak and tired and losing weight stupidly and possibly unhealthily fast.

My brother and husband finally begged me to come off them and make sure that is was the tablets and i hadn't caused damage. I've been off them since saturday and im still throwing up at least once a day. Today i've been sick 3 times.
I constantly have a yukky taste in my mouth and im struggling to find things to eat and drink that dont make me ill at moment flavoured water and fruits like pears melons and sometimes strawberries are settling ok.

Doctor wont see me till the end of the week although i a m trying to get an appointment sooner.

I lost two stone in five weeks....i have no blood in my sick, i am finally managingto go to the toilet again, and im not losing weight too quick at the moment.

anyone any suggestions.

thanks

Both types of metformin (modified release-"MR"- and the standard one) can cause tummy upsets.

The "MR", supposedly, is less prone to causing the upsets, but it's not 100% guaranteed.

I'm just starting back on Metformin, trying the MR version, as the standard version wreaked havoc on my stomach, too. The diabetes nurse specialist said that it might be an idea to try it in conjunction with my insulin, to give tighter control.

Have you thought of phoning the diabetes centre, at the Hallamshire hospital, and speaking to one of the specialist nurses there?

I'm very concerned to hear you have had such a rapid weight loss, which can't be good for you, overall, nor your glucose control. you really need to talk to someone, fast.

Thought i would keep everyone updated.

i've just come out of the hospital today after three days in on constant fluids, potassium and insulin. Turns out i dont have type 2 diabetes i have type 1 and was suffering Acidosis. if i hadn't been taken into hospital it could have been alot worse.
Everythings under control now and i feel so much better :D
Getting used to the insulin and have to get the right level but dont feel half as ill.

Only problem at moment is my eyes feel really dry like they're sticking and my leg is swollen at the bottom but thats because i have been bed bound for 3 days lol.
