View Full Version : Seriously budget camping in cornwall/devon areas
Hi,
Have seen other threads on camping in cornwall/devon areas but not quite what we're looking for!
I know its a bit early but with the cold weather myself and my boyfriend have started to think about summer holidays!
We have been camping lots of times around Derbyshire areas (Ladybower, Edale etc) and have camped both in a campsite and wild camping.
This summer we are looking to go somewhere near cornwall/devon but have never been before so open to offers!
We would like somewhere VERY CHEAP i.e under £10 a night, near to the beach, with access to sea fishing/ walking, maybe a couple of pubs but nothing fancy!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!
Sian

bude holiday park has everything you ask for......except it was 15 + pound per night a couple of years ago when we last went.
a few times that we were there we saw a couple who were camping on the site cleaning the toilets and showers every day. we guessed that this was their way of paying for their nights camping. you could always ask, for the sake of a phone call to reception on site. they can only say no.
alternatively, you can always wild camp somewhere and sneak onto a site to use the showers, but be aware some places have tokens to operate the showers. just dont get caught!
good luck!
We have looked at bude it looks really lovely! Will check out the holiday park, might be a case of camping there a few nights and then going somewhere else!
Really I didn't know that would be an option, something to think about although I don't know if I would fancy cleaning the loos on my holiday!
The wild camping might have to be done if we dare lol
Thanks a lot for your help!

Camping pro 18-01-2012, 18:46 check out @CampingSites (https://twitter.com/#!/CampingSites) there giving away a free two night camping holiday too one of their followers, just a thought if u win you would get two of your nights paid for.
I've wild camped overlooking the beach at Hayle without bother. ;)
Thanks camping pro that's definitely worth a try!

I've no idea to be honest, i always wild camp, sorry.
Camping pro 18-01-2012, 20:56 there are quite a lot of camping sites in Devon / Cornwall, after Yorkshire they have the largest amount of camping sites, so there should be enough to meet your needs.
If you do follow on Twitter and message @campingsites i have noticed that you can ask them to find you your perfect camping site and they try there best for you, might be worth a try
Look up Zoar Campsite near Coverack and St.Keverne on the Lizard. Very basic, very quiet, very remote, but very nice.

there are numerous basic, quiet and remote campsites around devon and cornwall that are not on the internet etc,. you just have to stumble upon them. great if you dont need pub, clubhouse, chippy etc,. but no good if you want to be on the beach every day. i've been on sites where there is not a single sound or streetlight to bother you. it's great for stargazing, you can even see shooting stars and the milky way in all their glory.
a good place to look up is holywell bay, it has a small campsite and there are shops, a pub AND a public toilet, all on the way to the beach. when i camped in the back of my van, i used to park up round the back of a nat trust car park, next to a stream. you cross the road and you are on the dunes that lead to the beach. be aware though that you will be rudely awakened by the car park attendant who may demand the parking fee! this car park is packed and parking charged for at 3.40 per day during high season and bank holidays, but hardly attended at other times like warm septembers.
further to my bude recommendation, i have noticed backpackers pitching tents after dark (when reception has shut) and upping sticks before reception opens in the morning! crafty or what? pitch in the right place or you may be noticed and your tent removed until you've paid.
IS'NT CAMPING FUN??? :D:hihi::hihi:

We have just returned from this site on this recommendation. Absolutely fantastic. The nicest most helpful owners we have ever met, with beautiful views and walks. Anyone heading down at short notice take note, the place was virtually empty, and we saw their booking list for the weeks to come, they were nearly empty too.

It appears briefly at the start of this video, the sea view is what you see from the site.
