hi
Can anyone tell me what freeview is like? and how much you need to spend on getting a box, as im thinking about getting rid of sky t.v. and saving some money each month. i have heard that you cant always get the channels from freeview? depends where you live. At the minute i live in mosborough and im wondering if any one can tell me if you can get it their.

Best bet is go to www.freeview.co.uk and find an installer to come out and check for you. Box can cost as little as £40 one off payment assuming your aerial is ok.
If you can get it in your area but need a new aerial look to around £100 for a new aerial installed.
I quite like it, nice having the extra channels at times, but as even with Sky there will times when there's nothing on. You also get radio stations as well.

Right:
- Box price - from £30 to £100, depending upon if you fancy having the extra DTT facility of Top-Up TV - this, incidentally, is £7.99 p.c.m - and from that you can receive: UKTV Gold, TCM, UKTV Style, Discovery, Discovery Real Time, UKTV Food, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Bloomberg, Toonami and EuroSport - note: time-sharing.
Freeview - the main 'part' of DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television), Freeview consts of (reception permitting): BBC 1-4, ITV 1 (Yorkshire, for you), ITV2-4, Men & Motors, Channel Four, Five, Sky Three, UKTV History, ABC1, E4, More-4, FTN, BBC News 24, The Hits, TMF, UKTV BrightIdeas.
What's it like?
OK - if you fancy having the main channels, and with T.U.T.V, some more 'main' channels with poor time-sharing.
Digital signals are broadcasted on different multiplexes - see http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/coverage_retailer.pl?postcode=S20+8EB&Submit=What%27s+my+reception%3F for a typical Mosborough postcode and its reception.
Hope the above has been useful.
Seems the've left the Crosspool relay from the list.

go into curries and on the freeview box it will give you a text number to send your post code to, it then text you back to say if you can recieve freeview. but it will depend on your areil as well:thumbsup:

Dont use the postcode checker, it is sometimes not right. You may need a new Ariel. check round the streets near you to see if people have new Ariel's on there houses. The Ariel is bigger than standard and the bit at the back (not the pointy bit!) that comes at either side is much bigger than normal
FilmFour is coming to freeview in July and its NOT part of top up!

cancel all but sky basic subscription , i think its a fiver . u will then be guaranteed service, and have the benefit of more channels than freeview & top up tv.

If you already have Sky TV installed, you should consider Freesat from Sky (see http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk ). Basically you cancel your Sky contract and then for a one-off payment of £20 you will get a shedload of channels (including most of the ones on Freeview) and no need to buy a new decoder or anything like that.
NB: On the site it says the price is £150, but that's if you don't already have a dish installed. The Q&A page confirms the price of £20 if you already have digital satellite equipment installed.

Freeview is definately worth getting although you normally need a roof mounted or amplified ariel to run it. Prior to getting a box I could not get channel 5 and channel 4 was bad but the freeview box works fine in these conditions. Only £30 as well!

Because Sheffield has so many hills the postcode check will not give fully correct results. Best to check with your neighbours to see which channels they can recieve
