How do Guys..

Just wondering is there any other way to format a hard drive without going the usual way, clicking right button then format as its bringing up a mesages saying close programs down, (very old pc)... Just that im looking to free up space for it to run faster...

Any suggestion... ?

You don't format a harddrive to make it run faster, formatting will completely wipe the drive! That's why you can't format C:...Windows is running on it.

To go faster maybe try:

1. Defrag
2. Download a page file defragger
3. Empty out all your temp dirs of rubbish
4. Uninstall everything you don't need.
5. Get some util like Norton to do a clean up of your PC

Others probably have more suggestions :)

Only other way to format is make a DOS boot disc and use fdisk to sort it all out but you will lose everything on the drive obviously.

Missing a step:

6) Get a util to clear up the mess Norton has made of your machine and made it slower than before steps 1-5.

Regular maintenance is the way to keep your machine running at its' best.

No worries. Only format if you want to reinstall the operating system and everything from scratch :)
