As it is the awards season what with the Brits, BAFTAS and others I got to thinking what categories could there be for the Sheffield Forum awards and who would be nominated or a winner. There could be awards given to institutions, individuals as well as forum posters

Well, they're all only the view of the person who posts them. There won't be many categories where everyone agrees. The humour ones are good examples; people have different senses of humour so will suggest accordingly.

If people stick to the ones where people's feelings won't get hurt, then I agree; it's a bit of fun.

Thankyou to the splendid coves who think me the 'most eloquent' poster. I am very flattered because a good many brilliantly articulate and erudite posters grace our forum. Dear Lord Chaverly's focused, sinewy prose and superbly rigorous analytical skills never fail to deeply impress me. JoeP is so very clever, well-informed and wise. Red Robbo's gravitas, experienced maturity of judgement and liberal humanity are fine qualities. His fellow 'lefties', Disco Cat, Greenback and Teafan are 'quality' posters and fine opponents in political debate, but never enemies ['the Cat', in particular, with whom I have duelled on many an occasion, is as chivalrous and fairminded as he is passionate and unyielding in his principles]. The enchanting Starsparkle has the rare ability to make a cogent political point, weave in an amusing witticism and touch one's heart all in the same posting. Like Lord C, she restores one's faith in the human species.

There are others too worthy of great respect for various reasons such as Feargal, Boroughgal, Cloudybay, ppn-2204, Roy James, Nick2, Pseudonym, Longcol, Kentboy etc. All in all, we are lucky to have such an excellent on-line community. The 'Mods' too, are usually very fair, especially Joep - 'the voice of reason' and the witty Max. No forum is perfect, but we do not have much to complain about here. On the contrary, we have much to be proud of. Where else can one find posters equal to the calibre of the above?

Thank you Timo for those kind words, which, coming from you above all forummers, are deeply appreciated. I agree with every single one of your nominations, which again serves to show what an uncanny concordance and congruity of views we share on so many things. I would also like to add a few others, for various reasons, such as daverity, kay-cee, hopman, muddycoffee, youwhatref, mojoworking and kathythebean.

As several posters have already mentioned, you would walk away with the most eloquent award, as you have demonstrated what a wonderfully gifted writer you are on so many occasions (and I say this without a trace of hyperbole or overstatement). But in my opinion, you would also win awards in other categories as well, such as the most erudite and the most versatile (e.g. you can do both serious and humorous stuff and have a wide range of knowledge in many fields, including various branches of music). If there was a 'best debater' category, you would also probably win this into the bargain. As I have said before, you are the best poster on the forum in my opinion.

Incidentally, I am pleased you included both StarSparkle and Cloudybay in your nominations. What an awesome foursome we would make at the PaleoConservative's Annual Ball!

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the first annual Sheffield Forum Awards ceremony. Please take your seats, and can we have a little hush at the back. Thank you.

It is my pleasure to be your host for these prestigious awards. The nominations are in, and the judges have made their decisions. So, without further ado, here are the categories, the nominations, and lastly..... the winners!

Category 1: The Funniest Poster
The nominations are.....
Kristian - for his quick fired repartee
nick2 - for his off-beat humour
miniminch - for his Christmas Carol

Ladies and gentlemen, the winner is.....{glances at audience with big smile} ..... miniminch!

If you missed the fabulously funny Christmas Carol by our winner, here for your pleasure is a re-run......
http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=79410

Category 2: The Forum Wit
The nominations are.....
viking - the guy who provides the links to witty sites.
Don_Kiddick - the guy who is never lost for a witty side-take on life.
kirky - the guy who oh-so innocently postulates those witty questions that no-one else dare ask.

And the winner is.....{clears throat} ..... Don_Kiddick

Category 3: The Most Inspiring Forummer
The nominations are.....
bigkev - for telling the forum he was going into rehab and inspiring others to conquer their addictions.
Lotti - for sharing with the forum her serious medical condition, including numerous life-saving operations, and inspiring others to enjoy life, despite whatever difficulties they may face.
Hazel - for informing us that, despite being in her late 60s, she was going to start a new life, and who has inspired others to persevere whatever age they might be.

And the winner is.....{fumbles nervously as gold envelope is opened} .....
Ladies and gentlemen, the judges have chosen all three as deserving winners. Well done to bigkev and Lotti and Hazel!

Category 4: The Most Intellectual Forummer
The nominations are.....
LordChaverly - for his erudite arguments in defence of free speech.
timo - for his convincing exposition that there "is a slightly higher incidence of 'Haplogroup Two' Y Chromosomes [indicators of the 'invader' genes of the Anglo-Saxon and Danish warrior bands] in the Protestant community" ...and is there any forummer who dare argue with that?
Phanerothyme - because no-one else understands a word he says!

And the winner is …… {wipes sweat from brow with clean hankie} ..... Phanerothyme!

And here is an example of Phan’s intellectual ability…..

“Judging by how much SF gets spidered by search engine robots (when the forum was open whilst still being under configuration, the user list showed many search engine spiders traversing the posts), if we post enough associations with 2003 UB313 and the name we give it, it might simply become the defacto name for it; before any authority gets as far as convening a panel to choose a method to elect a panel to plan the consultation exercise to choose the feasibility studies of the various methods of choosing a name and their relative merits.”

Answers on a post-card please! :hihi:

Category 5: Top Mod!
The nominations are.....
Max - the no-nonsense Mod who does not tolerate fools easily….if at all!
Tony - The Forum Co-Administrator who is rumoured to have the motto “A ban a day keeps the idiots at bay’!
JoeP - the other Forum Co-Administrator who is helpful, genial, kind and tolerant.

And the winner is {wipes sweat from brow with clean hankie a second time} …..

Oh! We have a surprise write-in winner, who is …… RPG , who in his own words is the "Most unrecognised mod since he changed his avatar"

Category 6: The Newbie of the Year Award
The nominations are.....
crunchie: - Join Date: Jun 2005 - for the intriguing mystery of the red subaru alert.
Zafar - Join Date: Sep 2005 - for his ability to argue his point on controversial subjects with grace and good humour
GothicCharm Join Date: May 2005 - for her beautiful Appreciation Thread. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=89464&highlight=appreciation

Well ..... with only 43 posts to his name, but a record 29 pages and thousands of hits to his memorable red subaru alert thread http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=46014&highlight=crunchie the winner is....... crunchie:

Ladies and gentleman, I am sure that you can think of many other forummers who deserved an award at our ceremony. But without you, the members, Sheffield Forum would not be the enjoyable place that each of you have helped make it.

So, in the final category: Best Overall Contributor the Premier Sheffield Forum Award goes to ..... each and all of you.

Well done everyone!

redrobbo, I won't quote your so deliciously written Awards Ceremony Announcement...to save a bit of space on the server.

I congratulate you on announcing the results so well.

We can presume that you read out the Awards from over "The Pond", since the results came through at 2.12am here in the UK. :) .... and they were well worth staying awake for here.

I, for one, am absolutely delighted and pleased at the results from the Judges. I think many on SF will concur with the results. :)

The results are a triumph of commonsense over self-congratulation on this thread.

And, as a Special Award, may I also present you, personally, with the announcement that you will be presenting the BAFTA Awards for next year (at the fee amounting to 50s 6d) payable as a bung.......don't tell taxman :o

Dunno if I as a mere contributor like so many others on this forum who do not feel the need to gratify them selves in self importance to contribute to the importance of a forum and make it work and create a diverse form of communication between people and cultures in an ever changing world without making certain posters stand out from the rest.... I have not been given the vote yet.... and I doubt anyone else has.... so in reality there has never been any awards.

Except from the one who bestowed them.... and that is only His opinion Isn't it Robbo? And weren't they all white?.... what happened to the token black?

I think if a vote is going to be put into practice it should come from the majority and not the minority.... don't you agree folks.... lets have a proper vote.

What are you waffling on about now? That first paragraph has one of the longest sentences I've ever seen. And stop capitalizing RedRobbo's pronouns; you'll give him delusions of grandeur :hihi: .

Come on matey. There's no self-importance here. Tis only a bit of fun :).

Where did I say otherwise.....except put it to the vote? If it is to be a true evaluation of a bit of fun..... you may not seem to understand that most posters out there like to see their name mentioned in a poll at least.... don't even start on me...."I Wanna see my name".... if that makes you happy, well good. You must have noticed I don't usually answer to self importance threads..... so maybe I will wind my neck in once more.... I just think this is shallow love.

We don't need to have an evaluation of a bit of fun. Are you actually suggesting that we put people's names up for a public vote on who's the most witty etc? :o

What?!! I say again WHAT?? Um, I think you've lost the plot a bit on this one, Jake01. Token black? What on earth are you on about?

It's all a bit of fun, for goodness sake - lighten up.

Take part in this - make your own suggestions for awards, and those people you think they should go to. Nobody needs to GIVE anyone an opportunity to vote - no permission is required - Just Do It!

Jake01,

Can I suggest that you just chill?

This thread has been conducted as it was started - as a bit of FUN! That's all. Nothing else. A jape, a jest, a feat of light heartedness for forummers to enjoy.

It's not intended as serious. That's all.

Now, please, just calm down and let people enjoy this thread. That's all I'm going to say. You're being pretty offensive here and it's not going to be tolerated.

I'm sure everyone will accept your apologies Jake01. Mind you..... I was considering a Rant Award for next year - but now you've disqualified yourself from the nomination process! :hihi:

There was originally such a category. But it was a crowded field when the nominations came in, and in the end the judges disqualified every nomination in favour of themselves. :hihi: As each judge only voted for themselves, the Bitch of the Year Award category was finally dropped.

My lips are sealed as to who was on the panel of judges! :suspect:

I would just like to say thanks to all the forum members who have helped me through the ups and downs of going into rehab and to know that when I came back, I was welcomed with open arms I would also like to thank redrobbo for taking me out to do my sunrises and sunsets and to john who has been a very great help to me, also I cant forget owdlad and albatross for they have been through this with me always there when things when wrong, my greatest admiration is to redrobbo he is a very wise friend to know and to be out in all that country air even if he did help the rangers to pick up the litter what was around ladybower dam could have ruined mine and johns photo shots what we was doing.so thank you to everybody for being honest with me and giving me some good solid feed back. by god this pint of spitfire is going down well? lol.

In my case, I might be lauded as 'eloquent', 'erudite' etc [which is terribly kind and flattering], but aside from a certain fluency with words I am absolutely useless. I have no visio-spatial skills whatsoever, and any attempt at DIY etc ends in spectacular failure, injury and the blackest infamy. I might conceivably be regarded as 'clever' in terms of academic, language-based intelligence, but I am a complete duffer in the practical stakes. In all sincerity, I cannot mend a fuse, put up a shelf or even paint a fence properly. Fortunately, I can afford to pay more gifted beings to do such things for me. There is always, or nearly always, some kind of 'biological trade-off' where human ability is concerned. In my case, I encounter little difficulty in expressing myself either verbally or in written form, but am cursed with a lifelong, almost dyspraxic, 'practical' inability.

Regarding the awards, I would like to nominate several fine posters for the 'Most Missed' category. These are, Mojoworking [currently banned expert on popular music], Jon J Parr [fellow Toryboy and bon viveur- where are you Jon?], Ant [entertaining, witty expert on all things Paranormal], and Pinhead [a lovely cove, even if he is a Socialist]. Jon J, Ant and Pinhead, come back to the fold, dear hearts! Moderators- please lift the ban on Mojo, he has 'done the time', in modern parlance.

There was going to be a Most Banned Award at the recent SF Awards ceremony. There were actually three nominations, but the idea of a Most Banned Award was dropped due to a number of problems.....

1. There was a dispute as to whether royjames would be allowed to collect a Most Banned Award if he was currently under a banning order. :heyhey:
2. There appears to be some uncertainty as to whether kirky really exists! :hihi:
3. miniminch had already won one award anyway! :hihi:
4. Finally, on advice from the Mods, it was decided that bad behaviour on the forum should not be rewarded. :nono:

All is good in the world - the acceptance speeches and admiration for the aforesaid have outnumbered the nominations (at least in relation to keys typed upon) by the ratio of at least 10:1.

Surely there are awards left unclaimed;

I would therefore like to nominate t020 for "The Forum Member most energetic in combatting the encroachment of Ecclesall Road (which ends at Hunters Bar and then becomes Ecclesall Road South) upon their leafy suburb" .

Is THAT where mojo has got to? I'ts been quite awhile since I've seen any postings from him, and I was wondering where he went? How long has he been banned for?

Perhaps we should sponsor a PhD on the subject, although for myself I'm happier to believe in the existence of Kirky than one of these god thingummijigs.......
