Well, after all the praise and hype being heaped on John Terry.. its another cockup for the saviour of englands defence.

Still reckon he is world class then footie fans?

I never have- and I still think Rio is the better of the two.

He's scored an own goal Angelus, apart from that he had a pretty decent game and saved, I think it was two, off the line. If your criteria of being 'not world class' is scoring an own goal, well there but for the grace of god go a s**t load of the world's defenders!

Not only do i think he's world class, i have voted for him to be England captain

SO.. bearing all this is mind, and the recent Terry cockups.

Yes he did clear off the line, but he did score an own goal and also was lucky not to give a penalty away... still think he is the best english defender out of everyone we have?

I dont think so- and once again as I've quite eloquently said before.
When it comes to big games and when it matters the most, our supposed 'world class' english chelsea players dont seem to be up for it.

Its a big worry for me seeing as though this is the best chance we have ever had for england to win the world cup this year!

That's not how i remember Terry during recent England matches. It looks like we view big games in different ways ANGELUS because i think Terry plays better than Ferdinand does in recent games :?

And that's Rio i'm talking about, not Anton :P

I think we must view big games as different then.. because I look at big games like tonights for example.

Terry was found out again mate- and its happening more and more now.
Small little mistakes creeping in and the confidence is going and I recall him playing bad in the 3-0 drubbing by Middlesboro as well.

Funny how people forget a few matches ago
'World class' my arse.

It seems to me from the looks of it, against a higher class of opponent, Chelski have been found out now- especially some of our more 'quality' english players.

Just a small dip in form mate  What about when Rio was dropped from the England squad?
They all have ups and downs.

I don't see what difference it makes. Rio and John will be playing together for England this summer anyway.
I remember seeing a full page picture of Rio during the last world cup and in big black letters it said 'Colossus'. Hopefully we'll have Terry, Cole and Neville in that same picture in the summer.

That would be the same Middlesboro that beat ManUre 4-1 this season then perhaps?

If you're going to follow the 'beautiful game', I do think that you have to apply objectivity to analysis about individual players and even teams. For example, I hate Liverpool with almost a passion, however, I will acknowledge that certain of their players are outstanding, Gerrard being one of them. You can 'diss' a club wholesale, there's not a problem with that but you have to accept that certain teams and players warrant respect and appreciation even though they don't play for your team.

As an Everton fan, if I were offered the chance of signing either Ferdinand or Terry, believe me I would say 'Terry' everytime.

I thought Terry was fantastic last night.

But for me Rio is pure class.

I will take both of them for the World Cup thanks!
I have always had issues with Campbell, and am glad to see him slipping down the rankings.

ANGELUS lol, all the match reviewers said that that Terry was magnificent. To quote Redknapp he was like a gladiator. You have now shown yourself to be a Chelsea hater first, and then a Manure supporter second. Your hate for Chelsea blinds you to everything else.

Does Rio organsie and command the defense like Terry can? Does he make the tackles, blocks and headers like Terry, the most importand parts of defending. I don't think he does, he is an excellent footballer though with world class skills. They both potentially compliment each other perfectly, which is good news for England.

I am a Chelsea fan, always has been always will be; but my favourite ever player is Eric Cantona. He is simply god in my opinion, I was really agitated and annoyed at half time last night. But when I saw the Nike Eric Cantona advert last night during the half time advert break it reminded me why I love football. Did anyone else see it and what did you think?

Now stop knocking players just because they play for Chelsea. You would enjoy watching the beautiful game more.

But for injuries Woodgate would have been in the class above them all

Not sure about that one, its quite possible though.

so who do you reckon should be given the chance at the world cup?

a month ago or so, I would have said Capbell and terry, all the way..
but what with Sol going on one and Rio looking a bit shakey this season, I'd be stumped if I was sven on who to take to the wc. I suppose it would be terry and rio, but I'd love to see ledley King with terry at the back..

People who cannot see why Rio is one of the best defenders in the world baffle me.
Did he not prove himself in the last World Cup?

King is not good enough.
Carragher is not good enough.
Sol has gone insane.

Rio and Terry. End of.

Uncle_G

agreed Rio played out of his skin at the last world cup....4 years ago! plus he was paired with sol who has never made a mistake for england.

You can't just say rio's better because four years ago he played a blinder... Nicky Butt had a fantastic world cup but would he even get in the england b team now?.... no!

You have to look at recent form not just the fact that rio was good 4 years ago, and Ledly King is looking world class for spurs.

If you had seen Rio play this season you would be a lemon to say that he's the best, unless your names steve and your last names wonder.

Well I see Rio every home game, and apart from a few games earlier in the season, he has been fantastic.
Dont jump on the media bandwagon.

Rio is lazy- all he needs is a kick up the backside.
Motivation wont be a problem in the World Cup.

Is this the thread where everyone has lost there minds??

Can't you all see that CHRIS MORGAN is by FAR the best defender in england!!! if he doesn't tackle you- he just headbutts you so you can't run round him!!

:hihi:

Seriously- John Terry is the best central defender in england- bar NON, rio is coming inot a little bit of form (about time) at the right time but to say he is the best in the uk is a little bit premature in my eyes, he still sometimes misses the basics and when your a central defender that can be costly!

I like Terry alot - a great player. Rio is also excellent, as is Sol at his best. King will carry on the fine tradition of English centre backs - all of them something to be very proud of, we are so lucky to be able to choose. What do you think about Carragher? I am a Liverpool fan and obviously rate him. Whilst I wouldnt pick him as first choice I think he is a wonderful squad asset. He can cover the full back spots well, (without too much panache) and is also just the player you want to bring on if the defence is tiring in the last twenty. He playes with real passion and desire and throws himself into those dangerous situations when you think someone is going to score.

Guderian
23-02-2006, 03:47 PM
Carragher is a good squad member - I do rate him but remember him scoring a brace for Man United once at Anfield!

Terry - still think he can be skinned a bit too easily - unproven at international level.

yeah, he is potentially the most likely to make a howler. i used to worry thinking he was in the same team as dudek and traore. i think he has ironed out most of that though. (touching table).

John Terry is still world class. Every player makes mistakes.

He has been in better form than Rio Ferdinand ever since Rio signed for Man Utd, and over the last two seasons Rio has made far more cockups and put in a few mediocre performances. He's also bloody lazy at times.

This Chelsea bashing nonsense is getting silly now. If their squad is as naff as you say, why are they playing good football and challenging for major trophies? (cue 'buying success' rant from a certain armchair Man Utd fan)

And just to add to that, I think Chelsea's top English players are better than Man Utd's. That's not to say they aren't any good, but Lampard and Terry would walk into any team in the world at the moment.

haha, laughable, of course he's still great, he had a fantastic game last night, the own goal was just bad luck

Rio's goal celebrations are very disturbing!!!!
It's Rio and Terry for me everytime, I'm biased towards Carragher but am intelligent enough to see that if he comes up against someone with a bit of skill he's likely to get found out..although I would still pick him ahead of Sol
I don't buy into Angelus' theory about John Terry...in fact I think it's utter twoddle and totally unfounded...you related to Rodney Marsh by any chance??...he had a bad habit of spouting tosh as well.
