sorry if this has been asked before. what is the area round northern general like to live in and how much would it cost to buy something decent to live in.

Are there many burglaries or muggings or car damagings? Is it an area on the up or in decline. Where would anyone who knows this side of town suggest bearing in mind we wont have a lot of cash to spend. Are there good transport links - I prefer not to drive into city centre if I can help it. Is there anywhere to let my dog go for a run - currently live near a park which she loves.

Does anyone know if Sheffield offers any housing initiatives for keyworkers (teachers, nurses etc) Hubby will be working at Longley Park College

We'll probably have to rent for a bit till we check out the area - is this an area where renting would be an option.

Finally is the employment scene in Sheffield good at the moment? I've been checking out soe einternet sites and wages dont seem to be too high.

Thank for your help

I live close to the Northern general. Its an Ok area, but I've only lived there for 7 months so I'm not entirely sure yet. There are lots of buses, so transport shouldn't be a problem. there are also a few parks and green areas you could take your dog to.

The only place that you will find those are certain specially allcoated London Boroughs. It has been known for housebuilders to give discounts to certain professions, but I can't see why anyone would want to do that at the moment.

I have lived in Longley for 17 years and its a nice area in parts.
I say in parts because like any area in Sheffield it has its good parts and bad parts.

I live just down the road from the college and the park is one of the best presented parks in the city and there currently building a lake and doing major improvements to it which should knock up the house prices in the area when complete.
You can buy a house for about 45 grand to 80 grand in this area but come and check it out for yourself and PM me and i will gladly show you around.

Sounds like the park is making a comeback. I remember going to the lido when I was small - is anything left of it?

No the Lido went in the late 80s but some money is being spent on the park at the moment,, The old bayliffs cottages have been refurbished and now about 6 familys live on the park next to were the present work is now being carried out.
