Being brought up in the slightly older school I have ordered an aviery for my garden so I can keep my Macaw outdoors in the day during the summer months.
The mesh is important as it has to be reasonably strong.
The mesh is 25mm x 12mm and is 19 gauge and welded.
Can someone put that into english for me and give me an example of the thickness.

25 mm x 12 mm is aproximately 1 inch x 1/2 inch. Not sure about the gauge though.

inch by 1/2 inch, 19 gauge is about 0.04 inch or 1.01mm

hope that helps :)

So it sounds like the mm is the gap, so that sounds fine, if its 1 inch by .5 these are designed for budgies and parrots.
I need an example of the gauge.

Sounds strong enough for a Macaw.

Sorry to contradict, Cyclone.....

25mm x 12mm is a hole size of 1" x 1/2"

16 gauge wire is 1.6mm diameter...19mm is probably a shade thinner...can't be exact

See here for exact info

Hmmm, 19 Guage is around 1mm dia wire. If he's a big boy, he will be able to twist it about a bit!

Thanks shoeshine.
The gauges still look confusing on that site and is gauged on electrical wire.
I was gonna ring them until i saw they were in Salt Lake City.:hihi:

Appreciate it's an American site, and refers to electrical wire, but it still applies here in the UK. 16 gauge is virtually 1/16th in. dia, and as the gauge no. increases, the thickness reduces....you can take the site as being accurate here........sorry if you felt a bit confused.

By the Way...I still think in feet/inches/lbs/oz.....you are not alone

You're not alone either - I looked at the title of the thread and my first thought was " 1 inch by 1/2 inch". Even though I was brought up with the metric system I still prefer to work in Imperial.

According to this site http://www.wires.co.uk/acatalog/BARE_IRON.html

19 swg is 1.0mm dia [0.039 ins.]

I had a stupid moment because I knew that 2.54 cm is equal to one inch, but for some reason I suggested that 2.5cm's was roughtly equal to two inches. Now that's just stupid.
