Anyone been here recently? I used to go a fair bit, but got bored of all the chave selling 5 deals of weed and comparing scooter parts in the back room.
I understand it has been bought by a new brewery, and that Stef is no longer the manager.
Any thoughts?
nope no thoughts
Anyone with half a brain like to reply, not just trying to be (un)funny.

I used to live opposite the rising sun in the old student flats above the laundrette - it was an absolute ****hole of a pub but to be honest whenever I was in there the locals (including stef) were always friendly and up for a laugh.
As far as I'm aware it was sold by sheff uni to some brewery a few months ago, as such it's undergone somethin of a refurbishment and has managed to get rid of the image that you were alluding to in your post. Must admit I haven't been in since it's been all change but from what I hear it's definitely for the better...

Do you mean the Rising Sun at Nether Green? not sure there is one at Netherthorpe.

Erm, not sure, it's near Hangingwater, at the bottom of Tom Lane.

It would appear you are referring to the Rising Sun at Nethergreen (for there is no such pub at Netherthorpe).
Stef and his fellow hoodlums have indeed left the place and along with them the pool table has gone and the pub, now in the hands of Abbeydale Brewery has had a lick of paint, new lighting and banned smoking throughout. Good luck to Abbeydale Brewery because the pub had been allowed to descend into being a real doss-hole (particularly under its last 'landlord').
As well as the druggies moving on, the Rogues Gallery of Miserable ******** that used to the frequent the tap-room (none of whom were under 90) have also moved onto the likes of the Ranmoor and Fulwood Inn where they can still smoke and moan about everyone and everything.
I applaud the efforts of Abbeydale Brewery ridding the pub of such down and outs.

Really is this true? It is completely non-smoking? Does the ban work?
How brilliant! I really wish more pubs would follow suit and ban smoking totally in their pubs - after all soon they will have to do by law
