Im looking to either upgrade my pc, or buy some new components and build another. I will be using process and memory hungry programs. as well as gaming.

My current set up is as follows.

Kobian motherboard ata, (upgradable to a 3400 amd, and 3 gig of ram)
amd 2800+ xp processor
512 ddr 400 memory
160 gig hdd
128 nvidea mx400 graphics

Im thinking on totaly maxing out my current pc specs, to 3 gig of ram, a 250 gig hdd, and upgrading the processor.
But should i sell my current pc, and use the cash to buy all new components?

What would be the best option for me to go with?

What socket types the motherboard? If its still sktA or 754, Id consider swapping it for a 939, and an A64. The graphics card could deffo do with upgrading as well, Id say to at least a 6600GT or better.

i Dont really want a 64bit processor, if thats what you mean. I have heard that most propgrams wont run with them yet.

If your gaming the basic spec would be fine for ages, just get a better graphics card, a GeForce 6800 as a minimum, and 1GB of RAM.

I would say thats fine unless you use huge CAD maps or do real-time video editing....

Probably the best thing you could do is re-install Windows, stop the services you don't need and install the programs you do and no more.

I would be very careful if you are thinking of getting a 6600 GT I had one of them in my pc and it only lasted 2 weeks then had it replaced by a brand new one and that lasted 3 weeks. I only use ATI now it is fine for what I want as I dont play pc games on the computer now, I have just bought myself the xbox 360 and a ps2 my pc is now for my photography work and the likes. I have just bought a new monitor 22 inch one though got it from a very dear old friend who works in a computer shop way down south. but think really hard about your graphics card though before you take the plunge.

That depends on who made the graphics card. Ive got a 6600gt by XFX in here, overclocked to 580 core/1160 memory, and its been fine for months now, no problems whatsoever.

I use to be a big fan of nvidia all my graphics cards was by nvidia my 6600gt was by gigabyte and what a load of crap they are biggest mistake I made getting a 6600gt graphics card, it was also that I had to buy a brand new monitor because of that graphics card. thats why I am sticking to ATI I have had know trouble with them ( touch wood ). but hopefully by the time I move to scotland I am going to have the top of the range pc built for me and to my specs havent worked it out what I want to have put in it yet but we are working on it, it will have to at least 175 gig per hard drive as I want 4 hard drives fitting if it as to cost me £5,000 to be bulit then so be it but I will pay that much money because I have got that much I dont know what to do with it all lol.

AMD Athlon 64 processors will run all programs so long as you have xp

Your graphics card is a joke.
Buy an ATi Radeon X800 GTO for about a ton. Superior to the 6600GT.
