BarraGergus 21-02-2006, 17:01 do i get a discount now i'm a blue belt:hihi:
do I get a discount if I beat greg? :)
any way this is great news, been wanting to train with legarto since you two came back raving about his seminar in Bolton.
No Greg, he beats up on new blue belts!!!!
No Jim, beating Greg isn't hard enough to warrant a discount!!!
I think I did it at the royce seminar in about 20seconds MAX!
BarraGergus 21-02-2006, 19:34 30 seconds:loopy:
ahh well worth a try :)
see you wednesday night
Crayfish 21-02-2006, 22:21 Excellent! Except I can only make Sundays every blue moon or so, doh
The seminar yesterday was darn good, one of the best I've been to. Congratulations on your blue belts Greg and Steve!
want2learn 22-02-2006, 10:14 looks like barra sheff is my new home!!! been away fromthe form for a while training back at renzos, roger was there last week, the guys is awesome!! i spoke to him about who i should train with and he said barra sheff as they are getting good things going with lagarto, braulio and victor. Regular classes rather than 'twice' yearly seminars!

I agree that Gracie Barra are attracting some good people to teach alongside an already good instructor (John), and having a larger network of affiliated clubs and instructors this should be expected, but comments about 'twice' yearly seminars is exactly the type of stuff that BJJ can do without and simply antagonises other clubs. I personally am currently trying to train at different clubs so that i can get a range of experience, but it's comments like yours that would deter me from attending a club as you seem intent to wind people up. i don't see why you can't simply comment about the positives of Gracie Barra and leave it at that, without making snide remarks about 'twice' yearly seminars.
The atmosphere at the Royce Gracie seminar was excellent, with RGJJN Sheffield and Gracie Barra Sheffield attending, along with several others clubs. It's a pity you weren't along to see it. Or perhaps it's not :o
oh, and a final thought - your comment pays little regard to John Goldsons's teaching abilities - John's the chief instructor there and by all reports a very good one - why don't you go and try to learn something from him as well as braulio, victor and lagarto.
barracuda 22-02-2006, 12:13 Chill out Anvil. The guy has a point. Being part of the royce gracie network is going to limited you on the number of seminars each year. Its why Gracie Barra Sheffield is no longer Royce Gracie Sheffield.

1. That isn't the reason that Gracie Barra is no longer Royce Gracie Sheffield- if you read Andy Roberts' post, he left RGJJN because he couldn't afford the subs.
2. Being part of RGJJN won't limit me because it's not the only place i train and i am quite happy to attend seminars organised by other clubs. also, we do have instructors from other clubs who come and teach occassionally, including MMA fighters.
3. RGJJN isn't just about seminars and black belts, it's a family orientated club where people come and have fun and learn some self-defence techniques.
4. I have no problem with people saying that Gracie Barra is excellent, Brian Aiken is excellent, John Goldson is superb, Steve Marsden is superb, or wahtever, but when people start saying on a public forum, explicitly or implicitly, that this instructor or club is better than that instructor or club (particularly when they haven't been), or anything along those lines, it shows a clear lack of respect.
5. If people have a point to make they should attempt to do so more eloquently to avoid any misunderstandings. it shouldn't be too difficult to emphasise the perceived qualities of a given club without being disrespectful to anyone else. All these kind of posts do is create an antagonistic atmosphere between clubs, and the best thing about it is that if i've read the posts right, he's not actually training at Gracie Barra yet!
6. I'm perfectly chilled, but thanks for your concern
Actually, you know what, i'm just gonna let the people who like to slag others off do so without any further response, cos if you think it makes anyone look bad other than yourselves then you're greatly mistaken. I just hope the Gracie Barra Sheffield name doesn't get dragged into the mud by people who don't train there - by all accounts it's a friendly club with a great instructor and it has several students who post on the sheffieldforum now, so it really doesn't need to be associated with snide comments.
oh, and i'm still chilled :)

Yeah that's ONE reason.

Exactly. You have to go to other clubs because they have limited seminars at RGS.
3. RGJJN isn't just about seminars and black belts, it's a family orientated club where people come and have fun and learn some self-defence techniques.
Good. Never said it wasn't

Saying there are limited seminars at RGS is not being disrespectable. Now if I said the instructors were useless or the club smelt of pee (which I'm not) then that would be a different story.

There's nothing to misunderstand.
I'm not saying GBS is better or worse. Just simply agreeing RGS have limited seminars. And its got nothing to do with weather I'm training or have trained at GBS (which I have)
6. I'm perfectly chilled, but thanks for your concern
Are you sure ?

Stated a fact like that isn't slagging anyone off.
I'm still not convinced your chilled out enough :hihi:
LOL @ Barracuda.
Anvil, stop squeezing the stress ball when your knuckles turn white!!!
easy chaps.......it's all Gracie any how whether GBS or RGS don't you think.
want2learn 23-02-2006, 08:49 i didnt mean to antagonise anyone, just stating my opinion of where i am going to train and bigging up gracie barra, surely regular classes with world class guys is something to shout about

Apparently you can't as its deemed disrespectful
Bringing this thread back:thumbsup:
Had a chat with Legarto last night, he will start to arrange privates after this visit. So if anyone wants one let me know.
Hes also bringing some T's and Gi's etc.
I don't care where you train or why you do bjj but if you want to progress further that what us blue belts can take you, I would strongly suggest training with this guy! For those of you that went on the Royce seminar or are going to see Braulio this weekend surely having some one teaching every week thats at the same standard as these guys is a good thing?
Thanks
John
Apparently you can't as its deemed disrespectful
There's nothing disrespectful about stating where you're going to train or bigging up a a place, and if you actually READ what i wrote, and not what you think i wrote, you'd understand that. What i feel is disrespectful was the comment about twice yearly seminars - nothing more, nothing less. it wasn't necessary or constructive.
1. That isn't the reason that Gracie Barra is no longer Royce Gracie Sheffield- if you read Andy Roberts' post, he left RGJJN because he couldn't afford the subs.
Yeah that's ONE reason. That's the ONLY reason Andy gave - read it again.

Exactly. You have to go to other clubs because they have limited seminars at RGS.
No, it's simply narrow minded to train at one place.
3. RGJJN isn't just about seminars and black belts, it's a family orientated club where people come and have fun and learn some self-defence techniques.
Good. Never said it wasn't
i never said that you said it wasn't ;)

Saying there are limited seminars at RGS is not being disrespectable. Now if I said the instructors were useless or the club smelt of pee (which I'm not) then that would be a different story.
There is absolutely no need to make the statement in that context

There's nothing to misunderstand.
Well i KNOW i'm not the only one misunderstanding almost all of your posts and others as well.

definitely, and look everyone, John has managed to promote Gracie Barra without a single negative reference or comparison to any other clubs - take note people!
Jon has a diploma in diplomacy!
barracuda 24-02-2006, 18:00 That's the ONLY reason Andy gave - read it again.
I don't need to read anything, I'm close friends with andy and I was there when he discussed it with Braulio and Jude ;)

Narrow binded or not, you'd still have to train elsewhere if you wanted more than your 2 seminars a year. :hihi:

Good. Never said it wasn't
i never said that you said it wasn't ;)
Why mention it when its completely pointless to this discussion ? :loopy:
